To ask where I can buy the warmest possible winter coat

It's freezing down my way tonight and my ancient, woollen winter coat just doesn't cut it when it comes to keeping out the cold. I want a coat that will keep me super warm and toasty all winter so I don't dread leaving the house! Looking like I'm not dressed in a duvet would be a bonus, but is definitely not essential.

If anyone has any recommendations I would love to hear them!

I got my very warm winter coat from tkmax at a good price- I do look like I'm wearing a duvet though!

YoThePussy · 18/11/2018 16:47

I was given a very warm coat from Lands End (online shop) years ago. Is extremely duvet like but has been much admired by friends when I wear it.

ChodeofChodeHall · 18/11/2018 16:49

I bought an extremely warm and lovely new coat today from H&M and it was only £25!!!

Let me see if I can find a link...

helpfulperson · 18/11/2018 16:50

I've got a ski jacket i bought from Mountain Warehouse. Lidl and Aldi also do them. But make sure you have decent gloves/hat as well - I find that makes a big difference to how warm I feel.

Hezz · 18/11/2018 16:52

Canada goose are really warm

Cornettoninja · 18/11/2018 16:54

Not a coat recommendation but I find layers (and thermal underwear) the most effective. Pain in the arse if you’re heading to anywhere indoors heated to sub tropical temperatures though (psychically glares at co workers)

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 18/11/2018 16:54

I bought a brilliant furry lined parka from Tesco last winter for only £50.
Toasty

Flowerfae · 18/11/2018 16:54

I got a Tog 24 coat recently, and it is really warm

ChodeofChodeHall · 18/11/2018 16:54

Sorry, I can't find it on the website but it was reduced from £49.99 and is long, padded with a hood. So cosy I don't need a scarf with it.

Hopskipjumping · 18/11/2018 16:55

I got this one from zara yesterday. Im extremely cold person so hopefully will keep me warm. After several winters of feeling freezing im fed up of looking nice and feeling awful so although it does probably look like ive got a duvet on, I dont care. It has an inside jacket that you zip then the outer coat, also fingerless gloves attached.

I've had one of these for years

www.landsend.co.uk/Womens_Squall_Stadium_Coat/pp/P_39735.html?cgid=11299

It's really warm, and waterproof. It's not acutally gathered at the waist, it has a sort of internal elastic thingy with a toggle, and if you don't tighten it up, the coat just hangs straight, like a parka.

Currently half-price too, I'm tempted to get another ...

AddictedToSkittles · 18/11/2018 16:57

I recently got a padded parka from ASOS, the brand is Vero Moda, and it's the warmest coat I've ever come across! I love it! And it was under £50 so a really good price.

Candlelights2345 · 18/11/2018 16:57

I have a down filled, puffy, duvet style knee length one with a hood from M & S. I got it when I was commuting by train and fed up with hanging around on draughty platforms. I think it was £130 ish.

Jakethecob · 18/11/2018 16:58

I have a down filled Toggi coat. Warmest thing ever

eco1636 · 18/11/2018 17:01

I always get mine on visits to Scandinavia. You can buy in the uk - lundhags, peak performance, Didrikson. Sometimes tk maxx have them

ChantillyLaceAverageFace · 18/11/2018 17:03

Chodeo* I got that one yesterday-- £25 down from £50? Great coat! Stood on a rugby field most of the day and I was fine!

Plump82 · 18/11/2018 17:23

Please dont buy a Canada Goose coat. Theyre well known for animal cruelty.
I got a coat from Seasalt. Nice and long to keeps my legs warm. Its a soft fleece lined and super cosy.

Mumof1DS · 18/11/2018 17:27

A down jacket from any outdoors shop. Toasty warm :) I care not for looking like a duvet when it's so toasty for my commute Grin

Acopyofacopy · 18/11/2018 17:27

Don’t go for fashion, go for ski or outdoor coats.

MadisonMontgomery · 18/11/2018 17:28

Canada Goose are the warmest I’ve found, I looooove mine.

Maelstrop · 18/11/2018 17:30

After years of experimenting with layers, thermal everything, the warmest coat I've ever come across is a knee-length faux fur coat, secondhand from eBay. There was a trip to Paris in February, exceptional amounts of snow, stupidly cold, lots of outdoor time, I was toasty.

MotorcycleMayhem · 18/11/2018 17:31

Any down jacket. North Face will be thinner than most, and look less like a duvet but you'll pay a lot more. Mine is from Debenhams and cost about £65 last winter.

Shirleyphallus · 18/11/2018 17:32

Canada Goose are incredibly cruel, please don’t buy those!

threeicklepickles · 18/11/2018 17:33

Didrikson. They’re Scandinavian and soooo warm. Love mine and will not buy another brand again.

Haworthia · 18/11/2018 17:33

Down filled is definitely the way forward.

I got a Barbour coat half price in the sale (starts Xmas eve I think) which was only £125. I’ve never felt cold wearing it.
