To ask where I can buy the warmest possible winter coat

Unsure72 · 18/11/2018 16:41

It's freezing down my way tonight and my ancient, woollen winter coat just doesn't cut it when it comes to keeping out the cold. I want a coat that will keep me super warm and toasty all winter so I don't dread leaving the house! Looking like I'm not dressed in a duvet would be a bonus, but is definitely not essential.

If anyone has any recommendations I would love to hear them!

Get a coat from a proper outdoors shop

Racecardriver · 18/11/2018 17:35

I have a jack wolf skin which is very wa without being to heavy or bulky. Not as warm as fur though. Real fur is probably as warm as you can get.

whyhaveidonethis · 18/11/2018 17:39

I bought this. It's super warm and only £25. I love this website. All store excess stock. Lovely customer service too

whyhaveidonethis · 18/11/2018 17:39

Oops missed the link. janesstall.co.uk/product/grey-quilted-puffer-coat-product-code-100/

OneStepSideways · 18/11/2018 17:50

Berghaus down filled, the sort designed for mountaineers or skiers. They're designed for sub zero but really lightweight, like duvets

isseywithcats · 18/11/2018 18:14

please dont buy a canada goose one they trap wolves with snap traps that chop their paws in half trap their necks just to trim a hood on a jacket no one needs to wear dead animals round their head, and down jackets are not much better they strip the feathers off live birds with no care for the birds and then 3 months later do it again

Haworthia · 18/11/2018 18:21

You can get synthetic down isseywithcats, although synthetic fibres are an ethical mess of their own, so 🤷‍♀️

Fluffychickenmonkey · 18/11/2018 18:24

Wear a coat filled with feathers ripped from ducks. Nice.

Eliza9917 · 18/11/2018 18:26

I've been coveting a north face coat but I'm not spending that amount until I'm at goal weight/size.

For now I've got a Trespass Alyssa coat, it's waterproof, has a removable fleece lining, is fairly long and proper toasty warm. I'm on my 3rd one!

Lovingbenidorm · 18/11/2018 18:27

Canada Goose

bofsy1 · 18/11/2018 18:30

Echo the lightweight down filled jackets. They are absolutely amazing.

My current North Face is on its last legs, but in a fit of pique I picked up a lightweight knee length yoke in Primark. It is amazingly warm, and scrunches up into a little bag that is attached to the coat. Nice olive green colour too. Not that I care, warmth and not heavy is what I'm after.

Cheap and cheerful, does the job! Oh and has a hood too which is a big bonus .

Sometimes cheaper is good, as long as it fits the bill for you.

bofsy1 · 18/11/2018 18:33

Oh and a fleece gilet is the business too. Can be peeled off with the jacket/coat. Layers are brilliant.

I find that a good warm soft scarf and a hat of some sort really helps too.

I never wear gloves, but my hands are never cold, just my back area for some reason.

roses2 · 18/11/2018 18:33

I bought my full length sheep skin coat from ebay. Think i paid around £20 from ebay. It's lovely amd warm.

eco1636 · 18/11/2018 18:33

Down isn’t as warm as man made prima loft type stuff. Haglofs are very good too, ££££ but last years.
I couldn’t go back to buying a £100 high street coat every year again.

Antigon · 18/11/2018 18:38

Bofsy, what is a yoke?

Antigon · 18/11/2018 18:39

Which one did you buy on eBay, Roses?

CrabbyPatty · 18/11/2018 18:44

Stop suggesting Canada Goose when its been suggested several times already and as other's have pointed out they use real fur. Mine is Fjallraven and I took it to Finnish Lapland last December and was toasty. But it's hard to make suggestions when it's not clear what OP's budget is.

bofsy1 · 18/11/2018 18:51

Antigon,

Where I am from it is a euphemism for a "thing" and that applies to a multitude of items! Sorry it is not something an ox wears around its neck lol.

Umbongointhejungle · 18/11/2018 18:55

@isseywithcats
You know that’s not true don’t you.

Canada goose use real fur. They are highly scrutinised and have had a recent high court case upheld in Canada proving that they use ethical sources.
Wether you want to wear fur or not, do your research, there are many companies that do not use sustainable and ethically sourced fur. But Canada goose isn’t one of them.

Don’t wear fur or leather or eat meat if you don’t like the death of animals. That’s fine. But honestly, don’t start spouting bollocks online.
And I don’t own or would buy a Canada goose item, but I hate this bullshit pick and chose when it comes to the ethical side of animal deaths.

JellySlice · 18/11/2018 19:55

Lands End have a massive sale on right now. Their costs are the best designed and the warmest I have ever had.

Justlikedevon · 18/11/2018 20:05

Also have the H&M one. It's amazing, I'm actually warm. I do look like the Michelin man, but so worth it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/11/2018 20:30

As Racecardriver said the warmest possible option is real fur, but I also agree about the importance of researching its origin

Even better is vintage ... that way you can get something ethically sourced and avoid any "new deaths", so to speak

mokapot · 18/11/2018 20:31

Canada goose: it’s a Canadian staple.

Also please don’t believe everything on the internet.
PETA have their own agenda and are bullies with their evidence.

Either side can be spouting rubbish but if your are on the bandwagon that Canada goose is cruel, I also hope you eat free range, organic eggs, catch your own fish, are a vegan but actually live on air as even plants have feelings

FFS

Hmm

All I’m saying is that if you get really pissed and fall asleep in the snow a CG could save your life

trojanpony · 18/11/2018 20:39

Nobis.

They are a Canadian company set up by ex CEO of Canada goose.

They are cheaper and warmer and amazing I love mine

Carla and Abby are great.
