It looks like rat. Please tell me it isn't rat?
I've eaten many a strange thing in my day (I have a weird job that often requires me to) but feel like rat would be a new low.

For context, I'm in Russia and was served it by a non English speaking Housekeeper who I suspect doesn't like me much.

it's rat isn't it?

OP I'm baffled as to why you would think a Billionaire's household would be eating rat, even if served on naice crockery!

Now that you know it was quail, are you going to try it next time?

Have they mentioned what their Christmas menu will be, so that you can get mentally prepared to face it?

NoWordForFluffy · 18/11/2018 14:44

@HashtagTeamRaven, makes a change from potential horror film bait though (if you're who I think you are!).

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 18/11/2018 15:00

Tell the staff this "я вегетарианец" !
( means I am a Vegetarian)

GirlFliesHome · 18/11/2018 15:08

It's pronounced like this;

'Ya ve-ge-tar-ee-ar-nits''

(Hard G ..G pronounced like 'go' not like 'gee' )

HashtagTeamRaven · 18/11/2018 15:08

@NoWordForFluffy oh very good! And that was YEARS ago! Well remembered.

But if I tell them I'm veggie, I miss out on the nice stuff too - whilst we were in Dubai we went to Restaurant Nusr-Et (Salt Bae's restaurant) and it was the best meat I've ever had.

This is hard for me, as a guinea pig mama, to look at, because it looks so much like the pictures they show in Peru and Ecudor of guinea pig. But that would be unusal in Russia, surely? Would also be a baby domestic guinea pig not the much bigger cuyos (wild guinea pig) they would serve in Peru. Hope it is a rat and not somebody's baby piggie!

(rushes off into the next room to hug my little squeakers)

Sorry, OP, scrub that. I hope for your sake it is NOT a rat. That was tactless of me. Wish MN had an edit button sometimes.

Nothininmenoggin · 18/11/2018 15:53

Shell4429 · 18/11/2018 17:26

Makes me wonder why everyone isn’t vegetarian 🤮

redoceanwave · 18/11/2018 17:28

Pigeon

acegod · 18/11/2018 17:28

Lol

Andpppy · 18/11/2018 17:29

It’s a river rat - it’s a popular gourmet food in Russia.

PeevedOfPortishead · 18/11/2018 17:32

Between this thread and steamed badger - it's very apparent many people haven't a clue about provenance and just rely on "portion-sized" prepared meat on plastic trays. Sad

momtoboys · 18/11/2018 17:36

That just made me laugh in a loud, barking manner!

DishingOutDone · 18/11/2018 17:39

Portion control is important Peeved. You don't want people scoffing all the badgers.

Rageagainstthepenguins · 18/11/2018 17:44

If you eat dead animals you should eat it. All the same thing.

easielouisie · 18/11/2018 17:45

mumto2babyboys
Confused
Pigeon is popular? Its up there with other in demand game and definitely can be shot. Bit rich for me but others love it. Also I know a good few Russians and they're definitely not starving, nor are their Russian friends and families. You need to get out more.

BruegeITheElder · 18/11/2018 17:45

Did people really think the neck was a tail?? Look at the breast shape and the two legs are clearly lower limbs! Have you lot never seen a butchered animal before??

BruegeITheElder · 18/11/2018 17:47

It really doesn't. Maybe the colour, but that's it. In Peru the guinea pigs are usually cooked entire, head, 4 legs and all. And they don't look like small birds Confused

mumlost1940 · 18/11/2018 17:47

Looks like one of a pair of bullock's balls. First find out if it was well hung.

PS There's a vas deferens between a man and a woman.
