To use headbands on baby?

The fabric kind? Also pram shoes? I've been judged massively for both recently and want to ask other mums :/

I don't see the point in either of them, plus the head bands can be dangerous.

AnonyMousee · 09/11/2018 10:07

Headbands can slip down and suffocate baby. Not worth the risk

Smallplant · 09/11/2018 10:08

The mean answer = yes, headbands look tacky, and tbh like you think your baby isn't beautiful enough without them/like you're worried she'll be mistaken for a boy. I would judge because I'm judgy like that, but I wouldn't dream of saying anything to your face. Pram shoes are unnecessary before walking and bad for your baby's feet probably

Nice answer = it's your baby, do what you like Smile

OwlBeThere · 09/11/2018 10:08

yes you are unreasonable. headbands are a) ugly, b) unnecessary for the most part and c) a hazard.
pram shoes are also utterly pointless, can be damaging to tiny feet and are usually ugly.

that said, i would silently judge you for it, i wouldn't be so rude as to say it to your face.

PeachyBananas · 09/11/2018 10:08

I think the headbands look a bit silly and there's really no need for pram shoes, but I wouldn't judge another mum for using them!

If you like them then go for it!

Handbands are dangerous so yes I would judge

Busybusybust · 09/11/2018 10:09

Headbands are hideous. pram shoes are unnecessary.

Seeline · 09/11/2018 10:10

I think headbands just look so uncomfortable. they must itch, and have to reasonably tight to prevent them slipping down and getting round hte throat 9strangulation risk). When they are removed you can always see the red marks and dents where they have been. I just don't understand why you would?!

Shoes - can't see a problem, but good luck with keeping them on.

MrsApplepants · 09/11/2018 10:10

Sorry, both look tacky and the headband are dangerous. Don’t you think your baby looks beautiful the ways she is without ‘adornments?’ She has her whole life to wear shoes and hair bands.

Racecardriver · 09/11/2018 10:10

Head bands look very tacky. Just use pretty hats instead (you really should be in this weather anyway). Wtf are pram shoes?

Disfordarkchocolate · 09/11/2018 10:11

I don't like either but if you like them and take care that the headband doesn't slip and the shoes don't restrict growth just go for it.

AliceMarie89 · 09/11/2018 10:12

Oh gosh I can't believe all this time I've been judged when taking her places Blush

No and no. A hat when out of doors, and socks or tights are fine. Its a matter of taste I suppose, but I've never seen a baby look better with a headband than without. Ditto mock trainers for a three month old.

AliceMarie89 · 09/11/2018 10:13

I have heard about headbands but I would never leave her on her own with it on and as for scratchy we use the handmade fabric ones from Etsy not the huge flowery scratchy ones

Pram shoes are just soft little shoes?

OP posts:
LipstickTraces · 09/11/2018 10:13

Headbands on babies are tacky, look awful and as others have said are dangerous.

Pram shoes are pointless. If they can’t walk then they don’t need shoes!

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 09/11/2018 10:14

Headbands just scream “I NEED everyone to know my baby doesn’t have a penis!”.

Pram shoes are only useful when heading outside in cold weather as a means of keeping socks on their feet, and even that is stretching.

Each to their own, but when I see babies dressed in these things it looks like their Mum has dressed them like a doll rather than prioritising what’s most comfortable for the child.

NicePieceOfPlaid · 09/11/2018 10:15

They look tacky and ridiculous.

adaline · 09/11/2018 10:15

I don't really see the point in either, to be honest. Babies don't need headbands or shoes! If it's cold, put her in a hat or a hood, and use a cosy toes or a tucked in blanket/sleeping bag thing for her feet. She doesn't need shoes if she can't walk!

Tartsamazeballs · 09/11/2018 10:16

Headbands are a choke hazard, pram shoes impede normal development.

LipstickTraces · 09/11/2018 10:16

Booties look much better on babies before they are walking.

ShovingLeopard · 09/11/2018 10:16

Neither are necessary and neither add to the baby's comfort. She will look gorgeous without them. Headbands in particular are a strangulation risk. I would never ever use one.

SoyDora · 09/11/2018 10:17

Just out of interest, why do you use them?

Ohyesiam · 09/11/2018 10:17

Ok so I went to two toddler groups with my first baby. One in a strip lit community hall where orange squash and biscuits were served for snack.

The second in a 16 thcentuary tythe barn in a very posh village, soft lighting , real coffee, lots of handknits and natural fibres on babies, rice cakes for snack.

In the first headbands abounded, in the second I never saw a headband.

It’s a class thing, ( or it was13 years ago) hence the judgeing.

PippilottaLongstocking · 09/11/2018 10:17

Headbands are tacky and pointless, at this time of year a baby should be wearing a hat anyway, pram shoes are tacky if they’re like mini designer trainers, but soft wide shoes that don’t restrict foot growth can be useful to keep socks on or keep feet warm, my kids had little wool booties to keep their feet warm which I suppose would be classed as pram shoes
