Mine is awful! Quite coarse and lank, I was bitching to my mum about it and she said its because i just wash and condition and then leave it to airdry.

She reckons most peoples hair needs at least a little product and to be at least blow dryed to look decent.

Mine looks much better when I style it, so I do most days. It's a bit sad-looking if left to its own devices.

GrumpyOldMare · 19/10/2018 23:44

She's wrong in my case.

Mine is short - think pixie cut. I just was, condition and leave to dry naturally, never blow dry or use any kind of styling product.

It's shiny and healthy.

GrumpyOldMare · 19/10/2018 23:44

Wash*

Strippervicar · 19/10/2018 23:45

With a pool of me yes, unless you are under 12 or whenever puberty takes hold these days, some element of styling. But I do come across these magical people who swear they don't do anything and look amazing.

Didiusfalco · 19/10/2018 23:46

Oh god yes. I look like I’ve been dragged through a hedge unless I give it quite serious attention.

CarryOnScreamingValenta · 19/10/2018 23:47

Mine is a bit shit even with styling Haloween Sad.

MrsStrowman · 19/10/2018 23:47

I have thick naturally curly hair, if I wash my hair and let it air dry before bed, I look like Russell brand from his heyday when I wake up, if I blow dry it, even with a lot of product, I look like sideshow Bob from the Simpsons. I have to use product and air-dry if I want it curly or air-dry then straighten to have it straight. I can blow dry, sleep on it then straighten if needs be

BrightLightsAndSound · 19/10/2018 23:48

This is reassuring!!

Does anyone elses feel really rough and coarse when left to air dry?!

What do you consider styling? I blow-dry mine, inexpertly, by throwing my head upside down and blasting, and that's s rare occasion! I was, condition and use hair oil. I'd say your hair is probably in good condition from lack of heat and product but possibly not sleek/finished. I just don't really know how to do mine but it's clean and shiny and once I don't move at any speed or in the wind it looks pretty ok!

itsbritneybiatches · 19/10/2018 23:51

My hair sounds exactly like @MrsStrowman

Trying not to straighten to much as I want it to grow and look a bit healthier.

Madeline88 · 19/10/2018 23:54

I have curly hair which looks great air dried with a little bit of product to tame the flyaways. However if I blow dry it, then serious effort ensues to make it look good.

GhoulMythicalMoooaning · 19/10/2018 23:54

And mine! Although it usually looks shit as i dont have the patience tp leave it down whilst it dries naturally and nicely so it ends up being bunged up into a bun before properly dry then looks rubbish again.

TotHappy · 19/10/2018 23:55

If I let it air dry down it can go pretty frizzy and that sometimes makes it look coarse. But it isn't really, it's healthy. Looks at its best fresh after a cut of course. It's long and very thick but because I colour it tends to get split ends.. actual ly it's at its best straight after a home colour with Schwarzkopf Live. That calms the frizz and it's sleek.
My go to is to wash, conildition, brush while wet then scrunch into a high messy bun. When I take it down after 12 hours it's all curly and amazing. Sadly it's then time for bed and the next day it looks shit again. Sigh.

Do you use a good conditioner? I find that a good conditioner and living in an area where the water isn't too hard really helps with this.

I naturally have very soft curls, but the hair nearer to my head tends to look a bit dry and frizzy, so I just lightly use my hair straightner on the top bits and down to my earlobes and the rest hangs in natural curls.

It barely takes me 5 minutes to style and I think it looks pretty good.

cantquitebelieveit12 · 20/10/2018 00:05

I shampoo & condition & always air dry. My hair is naturally wavy though & long, sometimes I want to cut it or have a fringe but then I would have to actually style it.

haverhill · 20/10/2018 00:09

Mine is fine and longish and looks just about passable if left to air dry. Looks much nicer with a bit of Prost and five minutes styling though.

haverhill · 20/10/2018 00:09

Product! Grin

PickAChew · 20/10/2018 00:10

It's horizontal.

David13579 · 20/10/2018 00:12

I have ginger curly hair(well going a bit grey now) so my solution is to shave it of.

Costacoffeeplease · 20/10/2018 00:13

Mine is fine air dried - I sometimes use a styling product depending on how long it is, but usually I ‘comb’ it with my fingers and leave it

Lalliella · 20/10/2018 00:18

Mine is very soft. It just hangs limply. I can’t do anything with it, unless I pile a load of product on it. Even then it often goes wrong and just looks like limp hair with a load of product 😩

StillMedusa · 20/10/2018 00:22

Air dried mine looks like the sad love child of a string mop and a brillo pad! Wiry, frizzy and without shape. I bloody love my ghds... 10 years old and still going strong,
Even worse now it's going grey! I'm growing it so I can tie it up and ignore it!

PyongyangKipperbang · 20/10/2018 00:26

I have very fine hair and it just hangs, so I use the hair band curling method every night to give it some life. Blow drying doesnt really help, it looks ok for a few hours but then hangs limp again. I never use products though, it seems to make it lose any life it does have quicker.

BreconBeBuggered · 20/10/2018 00:26

Mine's very thick and wavy. I never use product other than the occasional blob of conditioner, and it's not dyed. So it's in pretty good nick generally, and certainly attracts more compliments than any other bit of me, but it looks totally shit if I let it dry naturally. Like, ancient cavewoman crone shit.

DoYouLikeBasghetti · 20/10/2018 00:27

I have wierd hair. It's half afro/half Caucasian. If I just wash and let it dry naturally people seem to like it because it's curly.

I'd love it straight but it takes ages (hairdressers have charged me extra to blow dry my hair because it's so thick, and still screwed it up so this is not hair dysmorphia lol).

My hair is actually quite smooth and in good condition, but it looks coarse very quickly. I seem to be able to go from smooth to pube in less than two seconds Sad
