To ask if everyones hair is a bit shit without styling?

Mine is awful! Quite coarse and lank, I was bitching to my mum about it and she said its because i just wash and condition and then leave it to airdry.

She reckons most peoples hair needs at least a little product and to be at least blow dryed to look decent.

I have thick, wavy grey/white hair. I just wash and use some product on my hair to smooth it out and then leave to air dry. It takes 2-3 hours now it's shorter, if I use hairdryer or straighteners it takes me at least half an hour if not longer to get it properly dry. I just don't have that time in a morning. Mines pretty ok, getting a good cut has made all the difference!

Fatted · 20/10/2018 08:07

Definitely depends on the type of hair. Mine is fine but naturally curly. I either need to use some curl cream and defuse it or blow dry it and finish it off with the straighteners. When I defuse it, I do just use it to give a bit of lift and help the curls form, then leave it dry.

Mine is a bit shit even with styling

Me too. Goes the wrong way, frizzy, never ever looks lovely. I stopped bothering with the hairdressers because even a professional can't make it look pretty.

HotChoc10 · 20/10/2018 08:12

Please tell me what magical products you have all found to make your hair smooth and shiny

Outfoxed · 20/10/2018 08:12

If I leave my hair to airdry after washing it maybe has about 2 hours of pretty curls if no outside forces interact with it but wind, heat, touching it, breathing near it etc and it soon gives in to being a frizzy birdsnest catastrophe

OrdinaryGirl · 20/10/2018 08:19

Yup. Soft and shiny, but utterly, utterly flat to my head. Without styling I would look like a seal.

PUGaLUGS · 20/10/2018 08:27

Oh god yes I need to dry mine with the hairdryer and put some serum on.

If I left it to dry by itself it would be a fuzzy mess.

Girlsnightin · 20/10/2018 08:57

I have to blow dry mine, then use babyliss big curl thing and then straighten.
Have got it down to 30 mins. People coo 'your hair is fab' and I'm like, if only you knew.....

Stripyhoglets1 · 20/10/2018 09:14

Yes my hair looks much better when dried properly. Worrying it's all think and wavy/fuzzy and blue dried it's much smoother.

Stripyhoglets1 · 20/10/2018 09:14

*blow dried

Stripyhoglets1 · 20/10/2018 09:15

Air dried it's all thick and wavy!

delilahbucket · 20/10/2018 09:17

I can't leave mine to air dry with or without product. It just goes into a frizzy mess. I either blow-dry it straight and can leave it, or let it dry naturally and then I have to straighten it.

Tomatoesrock · 20/10/2018 09:18

Mine is shit unless styled. I usually only blow dry for work or a day out. Mostly it looks shit it is washed, towel dried and put in a pony.

Cakemonger · 20/10/2018 09:54

If I leave it to airdry it's frizzy and coarse. If I style it I look much better but it's still coarse as I'm going against the natural curl. The ideal for my hair is to tie it back when it's wet, let it dry like that, then blow dry it when it's nearly dry.

In the heatwave I couldn't face using a hairdryer or doing anything to it and it was so liberating I've kept on like that. Will probably now save styling for special occasions, and avoid mirrors in between Wink

Cakemonger · 20/10/2018 09:55

OrdinaryGirl That made me laugh

UpstartCrow · 20/10/2018 09:58

Mine is very fine, prone to static and looks like I iron it every morning.

bluetongue · 20/10/2018 10:00

My hair actually air dries pretty well. The down side is that because it’s so fine and silky, almost like toddler hair, it doesn’t really take well to styling. It also seems to repel hair clips. They just slide right off Grin

bluetongue · 20/10/2018 10:01

Oh and I have to carry a brush with me everywhere as it needs brushing throughout the day to look any good unless I tie it up.

Lethaldrizzle · 20/10/2018 10:02

2 appliances I rarely go near are hair dryers and irons

BitOutOfPractice · 20/10/2018 10:05

My hair looks ok air dried. (Shoulder length, naturally straight). It looks much much better when blow dried.

Jeanclaudejackety · 20/10/2018 10:11

Mines hideous air dried. I wash and condition it, shove a load of aussie miracle oil in and French plait it sometimes, otherwise I let it half dry, then blow dry with a round brush and go hard with the ghds.

It's waist length, has the texture of a horses tail, the front is like ringlets from the scalp up and the back where the weight is is just frizz, I can just about get away with it on holiday where the heat makes the curls more defined, I'll pull the front back with a few grips and put some curl cream in and it's barely acceptable.

My grandma has basically an afro so I blame her for this mess.

Jeanclaudejackety · 20/10/2018 10:13

I also carry a tangle teezer with me and brush regularly, I do swear that regular brushing makes it grow faster

LilMy33 · 20/10/2018 10:14

My hair is dry and brittle due to a health condition I have. I brush it as it air dries or I resemble Weird Al Yankovic. I avoid blow drying it though and using tonnes of products on it and I’ve never straightened it. I don’t look like I belong in a L’Oréal advert but I don’t think it looks that bad. Mostly.

DitheringBlidiot · 20/10/2018 10:17

Mine looks fine with no styling, whi h is perfect as it’s long and pretty thick so takes ages to dry naturally or with a hair dryer. The back section tends to go a bit frizzy sometimes but generally the weight of my hair drags itself down. It looks better obviously when it’s styled but I can’t remeber the last time that was! When I get it cut I specify that I want to wash and go, I don’t even always brush it haha! I am pretty lucky but I’m fat, with glasses and shit teeth so everyone has to have something 😂

totallywired · 20/10/2018 10:17

Without loads of product my hair is ENORMOUS!
