To think she's called her children the same name?

Someone local to me has called their children Harvard and Harvey.

Are they not basically the same thing? Could Harvey not be short for Harvard?

I think it is like Sammy and Samuel? Or AIBU and they are totally different names?

One is a university. The other is a six-foot white rabbit.

MrsMelonBall · 22/09/2018 12:54

That's weird! 😂

MyNewBearTotoro · 22/09/2018 12:54

I think they’re different stand alone names, but very similar. Like Nicola and Nicholas, Joanna and Josephine or Jeremy and Jeremiah. That said it seems incredibly strange to call two siblings such similar names when the nicknames for them are so similar. I would find it weird to meet two brothers called this.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/09/2018 12:56

YANBU. How stupid is that. It also means now Harvard can't use Harvey if I wanted or in 20 she could end up with 2 sons named Harvey. The daft mare.
I remember on Super nanny a women had a Marie and Mary-Ann. It's like having a Lizzy and a Betty

WobbleTime · 22/09/2018 12:57

They’ll both get ‘Harv’ for short. Sounds incredibly confusing.
And Harvard? That’s a strange choice.

JensenElephant · 22/09/2018 12:59

One is a university. The other is a cheap furniture shop.

DramaAlpaca · 22/09/2018 13:02

She obviously didn't consult the MN baby names board in advance.

loveka · 22/09/2018 13:02

I agree, they are very similar!

hidinginthenightgarden · 22/09/2018 13:07

I know someone who really wanted a boy called Paul. Had a girl so called her Pauline.
2 years later, they have a boy and call him paul Hmm

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/09/2018 13:11

Just looked them up. Two stand alone names. Sounds as if the origins are possibly the same or very similar as they’re to do with battles / army guard etc. No I wouldn’t do it.

Stabbitha · 22/09/2018 13:12

I'm friends with a Pauline and Paul pair of siblings.

springlike · 22/09/2018 13:16

Knew someone who had twins and called them Christine and Christopher! Hmm

juneau · 22/09/2018 13:17

I used to work with a woman whose dad was called Ronald. Her two brothers were called Ronald and Ronaldo Hmm

ApolloandDaphne · 22/09/2018 13:17

My uncle has two children, a boy and a girl: Michael and Michelle!

AnneOfCleavage · 22/09/2018 13:19

I know a pair of siblings called Holly and Olly. I don't think they thought his nickname through when they named him Oliver.

Ellie56 · 22/09/2018 13:23

I know someone called Christine, usually known as Chris who has a brother called Christopher, also known as Chris, although she always refers to him by his full name.

UrsulaPandress · 22/09/2018 13:25

I knew a family with daughters called Hannah and Annie.

GabsAlot · 22/09/2018 13:25

goin to be difficult when she shouts out harv in the middle of the park

HerRoyalNotness · 22/09/2018 13:26

Our neighbours sons are Colton and Carlton. Every time I see one of them I pause before I say their name to sort it out in my head which is which. It makes for very stilted conversation.

Smallhorse · 22/09/2018 13:28

Odd.
I once knew brothers called Rob and Bert

JaniceBattersby · 22/09/2018 13:30

Harbard’s going to look like a bit of a dick when he’s at Rotherham Poly.

Crispsandcoffeediet · 22/09/2018 13:33

I know a brother and sister called Oliver and Olivia!
I think it's bonkers, their mum said she just loved her sons name (the eldest) so wanted to use it again for her daughter as she couldn't find another name she loved as much

Rhiannon13 · 22/09/2018 13:34

I think even using the same initial is a bit daft, never mind what is essentially the same name.

Petalflowers · 22/09/2018 13:34

I knew someone who named his second son, Michael. Then had a new relationship, and a daughter, and named her Michaela. ( not real names, but you get the drift).

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 22/09/2018 13:35

YANBU

I do wonder what some people are thinking when they choose their DC's names
