To think she's called her children the same name?

Someone local to me has called their children Harvard and Harvey.

Are they not basically the same thing? Could Harvey not be short for Harvard?

I think it is like Sammy and Samuel? Or AIBU and they are totally different names?

I know someone with daughters called Amelia, Amy and Emma. Pretty much the same name. Gorgeous children though, all with very individual personalities, no-one will ever get them mixed up.

SoupDragon · 22/09/2018 13:42

goin to be difficult when she shouts out harv in the middle of the park

Not at all, in fact it’s pretty damn clever - she only has to call for one of them.

HuggedtheRedwoods · 22/09/2018 13:43

Neighbour has children Paul and Paula. No one else ever commented on it though, thought it was just me!

Enko · 22/09/2018 13:50

I knew twins called Patrick and Patrica when I was growing up.

lexi727 · 22/09/2018 13:51

YANBU. Also the name Harvard is horrendous. I know somebody who's siblings are called Samuel and Samantha 🙄

topcat2014 · 22/09/2018 13:52

@hidinginthenightgarden - that made me think of Paul and Pauline Calf (Steve Coogan characters) :)

EinsteinsArousedSausagesHCB · 22/09/2018 13:57

I genuinely know of triplets named Eli, Elias and Elijah. Hmm

Jeezoh · 22/09/2018 14:00

I know someone with a Henry and a Harry who didn’t realise until she’d named them that Harry was a shortening of Henry

Isadora2007 · 22/09/2018 14:02

I know a family who have all “A” names- but they’re so similar. Like Ali, Alea and Alison.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 22/09/2018 14:05

Baby number 3 will probably be called Harvingalaff.

There could be method in the apparent madness though.

Want everyone to come and sit down for tea? Just shout a generic, 'Harv!' Want to pass down labelled school clothes? Much easier if all the kids are called 'Harv'. And what about the possibility of recycling birthday cards?

eelbecomingforyou · 22/09/2018 14:05

One is a university. The other is a name. Yes, beyond weird!

dustarr73 · 22/09/2018 14:07

I think thats only in England. If i heard Harry i would thing Harold or Harrison.

I wouldnt think Henry at all.

Emmageddon · 22/09/2018 14:08

When one of them reaches the age of 18, the younger one can borrow his ID and get served in pubs. That was my DD's immediate reaction to the idea of naming children very similar names. Guess it depends if they look alike though Grin

Jeezoh · 22/09/2018 14:09

I’m not in England Smile

dustarr73 · 22/09/2018 14:11

I’m not in England

@Jeezoh Neither am i.I only realised when I heard Prince Harry was really Henry

BendydickCuminsnatch · 22/09/2018 14:14

At a baby group the other day I met someone with a Henry and a Harriet, I was surprised. Then my friend, who has another Henry, only learnt Harry was a shortening of Henry when Harry & Meghan got married! So I guess not everyone knows that. But if you look of the meaning of the name you’re considering, you’d know! Not that it matters much.

thecraftyfox · 22/09/2018 14:27

I know twins called Kevan and Kevon...

hendal · 22/09/2018 14:31

theboud · 22/09/2018 14:41

I know a family with 3 girls - Rose, Scarlet and Ruby. So all shades of red. I genuinely don’t know if it was deliberate or if they just liked the names.
