Pet bowls in dishwasher

do you put cat food/water bowls in the d/w?

We have a sensor cycle, which is most economic, also a hygiene cycle, which is super hot - think practically boiling. Loathe to use that one all the time. What do you do?

Yes. I put them in. Norma cycle

DiveBombingSeagull · 21/09/2018 18:26

Yes I do, it is really hot and I assume any chemicals in the detergent will kill off any germs.

WinnerWinnerChickenDinner0 · 21/09/2018 18:28

I give them a soak/wash in hot soapy then into the dishwasher but I always use the hottest cycle

Water and food bowl go in every day

steff13 · 21/09/2018 18:30

Our pet bowls are stainless steel, they are dishwasher safe so we wash them in there. It gets hot enough to sanitize, so it's no problem.

Pinkprincess1978 · 21/09/2018 18:31

Yes our pet bowls go in on normal cycle

Caterina99 · 21/09/2018 20:17

Yes i just put them in on the normal cycle. It’s just pet food. It’s not poisonous. We could probably eat it if we wanted to

Cornettoninja · 21/09/2018 20:33

Ours go in the bottom shelf, that’s pretty much my only rule... it’s all getting washed with hot water and detergent and I’m pretty sure my cats don’t have supercatlergy.

Ninoo25 · 21/09/2018 20:34

Yep ours are ceramic and I put them in on a normal cycle x

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 21/09/2018 20:36

Yes. Two days ago I found DS2 letting our spaniel lick chicken off his fork under the table and fully lost the plot before realising that the reason none of us ever has stomach bugs is probably because of sharing our lives with pets.

RayRayBidet · 21/09/2018 20:36

I wash the cats bowls up in the sink each night.
One of them keeps jumping on my toes tonight!

redsummershoes · 21/09/2018 20:36

how hot does the eco cycle get?
hot water + the harsh detergent should be fine.

MirandaWest · 21/09/2018 20:42

Ours go in the dishwasher

emwithme · 21/09/2018 20:56

Yes, top shelf (they're plastic) normal cycle.

crispysausagerolls · 21/09/2018 21:09

Why wouldn’t they? Seriously some of the stuff in my dog’s food is better quality than what I eat, it’s all organic etc 😂 but sure I put both in and can’t see why not

Justkeeprollingalong · 21/09/2018 21:14

Yes, why not?

NotUmbongoUnchained · 21/09/2018 21:17

No they just get washed and rinsed then put straight back down.

Aquamarine1029 · 21/09/2018 21:18

Unless your pet is a Komodo Dragon what on earth are you worried about?? This sounds like paranoia bordering on the extreme.

Rebecca36 · 21/09/2018 21:21

I put them in, normal cycle. Always have.

Alpacanorange · 21/09/2018 21:29

Ewww really.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/09/2018 21:33

There was a cat on one of the TV vet programmes (Animal Hospital or Vets In Practice type) who had really painful sores round its mouth..... turned out to be allergic to the dishwasher detergent !

Something to bear in mind if your pet gets unusual sores.

Whatsthisbear · 21/09/2018 21:40

Omg NO!
We once stayed with DH’s family and I saw them, in the morning, taking the pet dishes out of the dishwasher then pull out plates to put our breakfast on. It still fills me with disgust.
We wash out pet dishes separately by hand. I wouldn’t use the same dishcloth on their bowls that I would use on our food prep surfaces so why would I wash their dishes with ours? Confused
It’s not the actual pet food that bothers me but the fact they spend half the day licking their butts. Hardly hygienic.

Lazypuppy · 21/09/2018 21:42

Just put them in on normal wash...why would it need to be any different?

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 21/09/2018 21:44

Do do every day and we are all still alive, raw feed DDog.

Passthecake30 · 21/09/2018 21:45

I put the rabbit bowls in. They lick their butts too Wink

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 21/09/2018 21:50

When we finally get the dishwasher connected the cats bowls will just go in with everything else. They're stainless steel. I don't see the problem. His food is high quality and as far him licking his butt all day I really couldn't care less.

He shares his home with us... I've woken up more than once with his butt right next to my head so it's not something I can get worked up over.
