Lighthearted of course, I'm sure many disagree!

mulberrybag, the perfume people's dupe of Oud and Bergamot is Bergamot and Agar Oudh.

Branleuse, I have TPP's French blossom and lime and it's a very long-lasting lime blossom. It's actually a bit too strong for me. I can only wear tiny amounts.

MaggieAndHopey, at least one of them uses gas chromatography to analyse the original so they can copy it exactly. The ingredients must be synthetic for the price (but I think a lot of big-name scents use synthetic ingredients these days, anyway.

glueandstick · 16/09/2018 17:13

As an experiment (when I was feeling flush) I bought the aldi counterparts and the jo Malone candles.

The English pear body wash is just about spot on, as is the pomegranate noir room diffuser and candle. Close enough for the price any how. The others are close but you can tell the difference if you really like your perfumes. They are ok though and much more accessible.

But Cire Trudon... worth every last euro 😍😍😍😍

glueandstick · 16/09/2018 17:14

In her book, or an interview or somewhere it was said that they are all synthetic.

Emmageddon · 16/09/2018 17:30

I used to buy JM fragances but since I accidentally found Bronnley, their Lemon and Neroli, Lime and Bergamot, Orange and Jasmine, Peony and Rhubarb are now my favourite go-to scents. I went to Bronnley looking for my mum's favourite Hibiscus eau de toilette (sadly discontinued)

OneInAMillionYou · 16/09/2018 18:25

Thank you to all the posters recommending Perfume Parlour!

Just ordered from their site, they have so many of my favourites. I've started with the sample sizes but if they work I will be ordering more. What bargains!

Bluelady · 16/09/2018 18:31

Yes, great aren't they? I was delighted when I discovered them.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 16/09/2018 18:56

Glueandstick, candle fragrance oils are synthetic. They are designed to be burnt safely in wax. Essential oils are not always safe to burn, they are better in diffusers etc

SilverySurfer · 16/09/2018 19:40

Sugarplumfairy65 I bow to your superior knowledge - if you sell your candles you are obviously an expert. I just make for myself and provide what seems to be a constant supply to my friends Smile

I use soy wax and wondered if you use it too or do you prefer paraffin? I find soy really easy to work with and melt it in a jug in my slow cooker. The thing I find hardest is although I bought little round sticky patches for the bottom of the containers on which I stick the metal bottom of the wicks, they don't stay stuck and my wicks bend - if you have a solution to that which you wouldn't mind sharing I would love to know, thanks.

glueandstick · 16/09/2018 19:43

I wouldn’t dream of burning essential oils as I’m a chemist by trade. Hmm was only saying that she was open about using synthetic fragrances.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 16/09/2018 19:53

That Perfume Parlour is pretty amazing, pity they don’t appear to have any “Chanel”

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 16/09/2018 19:57

Oh yes they do!

You need to ask our lovely ladies on the perfumista thread for The List. I think someone copied onto a doc. A few years ago, the PP "Chanels" were all easy to find- Sycomore was Sycomorez etc etc. Then they were obviously threatened with a suit and changed them so you have to work them out. But someone on perfumistas worked them all out for us.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 16/09/2018 19:58

Totally agree re Bronnley btw, and Yardley are worth a punt as well. I have 3 or 4 luscious Yardley ones, that No Malone would have whacked an £80 ticket on, I think they were about £7 from Allbeauty. (bluebell is particularly nice iirc)

Sugarplumfairy65 · 16/09/2018 20:38

Silverysurfer
I use a parasoy blend, which I blend myself. You need some glue dots to stick the wick tabs down, or a glue gun Wink

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 16/09/2018 20:44

gonna have to do that @BookMeOnTheSudExpress

Sounds weird but I need to order two types as I can’t remember the one my mum used to wear but I’ll know it soon as I smell it IYSWIM?

No Chanel counter where I live seems to stick no.9 or no.15 (?)

beanaseireann · 16/09/2018 21:08

Also looking for tpp Chanel dupes

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 16/09/2018 21:35

Chanel 9 was discontinued yonks ago, you would need to hope ebay comes up with a long lost bottle at some point I think. PP only do dupes of the common classics and some, but not all, of the exclusifs. I wasn't aware there had ever been a 15, but I know that there were lots of numbers at various times, and many were only in production for a short time.

dahliaaa · 16/09/2018 23:20

Does anyone know of a Chanel Pour Monsieur dupe? Thanks

FluffyHairedFloofyCat · 17/09/2018 12:42

Here is the list of the Perfume Parlour's "similar to Chanel" scents as BookMe mentioned (I didn't put this together so can't take the credit, it was a more expert Perfumista!).

I'm not fond of JM myself, but the Perfume Parlour Pom Noir version was very close when I tried it ages ago. The Primark Lime Basil Mandarin is also very similar (and much better value!)

I don't find some of the PP Chanel ones hugely similar but the Allure and Sycamore ones are good, IMHO.

The PP also do a number of scents similar to Lush items and the couple I tried have been very good indeed, so useful stocking fillers for any teenage Lush fans or myself Wink

I love you so much for this @FluffyHairedFloofyCat

LucilleBluth · 17/09/2018 13:38

JM fragrances are simple and clean, they are also accessible with shops everywhere. I can't knock her, I always have a bottle of Earl Grey and Cucumber on the go.

Talith · 17/09/2018 14:25

Pomegranate noir parfum is completely overpowering. I use a tiny spray on the front hall radiator if I've done fish on the hob and the whole house reeks of it in minutes.

sulflower · 17/09/2018 14:38

I bought a Jo Malone diffuser and wasn't impressed, it lasted no time at all and I could barely smell it so it put me off buying anything else. I love St Eval Sensuality candles and Branche d'Olive White Tea room spray (not at the same time).

dahliaaa · 17/09/2018 15:30

Thanks so much for that list Fluffyhaired

beanaseireann · 17/09/2018 17:45

Thank you Fluffy
