Happy with Jo Loves and can't pass Penhaligon without going in for a spray. I get JL given to me as presents and give Penhaligon, especially Endymion and one called something like Vara.

FabulousTomatoes · 16/09/2018 03:52

Sorry but the Aldi dupes, to me, smell nothing like the real thing!

Rebecca36 · 16/09/2018 06:09

Never heard of her before now.

SpeckledyHen · 16/09/2018 06:16

Some lovely fragrances but as others have said they don’t last unlike Jo Loves .

pilates · 16/09/2018 06:16

Agree, lovely fragrances but only lasts an hour on me. I did email and complain and I got a credit from them. Bought another scent exactly the same situation.

totallyliterally · 16/09/2018 06:21

Complete disappointed by JM

Have a candle that doesn't smell hen lit, the body moisturiser isn't a nice texture and smells a bit weird when on.

Both very much wanted gifts as I believed the hype. And both genuine bought in store.

mulberrybag · 16/09/2018 06:21

I'm just coming to the end of my Oud and Bergamot. My kids love it and say it smells like mummy when they catch a whiff of it! The bottle lasted me well over a year but was nowhere near as long lasting as my previous bottle smell wise.
Does anyone know of a dupe or can recommend a similar smell ? Totally agree it's crazily overpriced for its longevity nowadays

actualpuffins · 16/09/2018 06:36

I've only vaguely heard of Jo Malone and don't recall whether I've tried any of the products. I'd probably just buy the "fakes" not knowing what they were meant to be a copy of. I don't do designer stuff.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 16/09/2018 06:52

I'm a fan, and I use the colognes daily and have done for many years. I agree the scent of the sprays don't last. But I love the smell. I also have some candles. To the PP who says the candles don't smell I can't agree. On a sunny day, without even lighting them you can get the fragrance. And when I light mine it fills the room and lasts well after I blow it out.

twocats335 · 16/09/2018 06:54

I got one as a leaving present which was a lovely gesture but I'm thinking of selling it and using the cash for something useful (esp as I was made redundant!)

P3onyPenny · 16/09/2018 06:57

Yanbu

Been in so many times over the years and have yet to find a smell that doesn't smell like toilet cleaner and yes they don't last. Smell doesn't really make it back to the car park on my wrists. Have long thought the brand was emperor's new clothes.

Donnyduds · 16/09/2018 07:02

Toxic Paraffin why would you overpay to burn that in your house, it’s Neom for me every time.

P3onyPenny · 16/09/2018 07:06

I like The Botanical Candle Company for candles,Demeter fragrance library for cologne and Bramley for toiletries as regards smells.Would happily spend money on them and they're far less expensive. L'occitane,Petit Marseillaise and Burts Bees also sell nice smelling products. I don't get why JM has to be so expensive. Hasn't it been sold to Estée Lauder?

OrdinaryGirl · 16/09/2018 07:17

@Eliza9917 have a look at Cire Trudon for candles. You will implode with the senseless frivolity. 😄 One day when I am immoderately rich and famous I shall fill my (by then chateau) with them and eat coffee eclairs for breakfast. 🎀

luckylavender · 16/09/2018 07:42

Horses for courses. I like JM, although prefer Molton Brown toiletries and Yankee candles. I love some of her perfumes and also have the Aldi copies. I also like Jo Loves. I would never spend money on a celebrity chef / trendy / in restaurant as I would see that as a complete waste of cash. Whatever makes you happy.

FabulousTomatoes · 16/09/2018 08:16

Inspired by this thread, I’m going to ask dh for a Jo Loves gift experience this Christmas rather than a bottle of Orris and Sandalwood!

Branleuse · 16/09/2018 08:20

If i could find a longer lasting equivalent to jo malones lime blossom , ill be a happy bear.

linkylink · 16/09/2018 08:32

what are the best Aldi dupes?

listsandbudgets · 16/09/2018 08:41

I can't stand IN. Massively over priced and massively disappointing

If you actually want to drop huge sums on perfumes try to get to a branch of Penhaligons. At least the scent lasts

Crackedvase · 16/09/2018 08:45

mulberrybag try Jenny Glow Oud and bergamot- really inexpensive, very similar dupe x

Perfume Parlour does excellent knock offs of JM and almost every other brand too, including Tom Ford and Serge Luten.

ChangerChangerson · 16/09/2018 08:52

I feel like most the people who rave about the Aldi knock-off candles have never owned a Jo Malone candle. The Aldi ones are ok for the price but the smell doesn't last as long and you have to burn them for longer to get the desired affect.

Truckingonandon · 16/09/2018 08:57

Perfume Parlour now does Jo Loves too.

Agree that the Aldi rip off candles are rubbish. They smell of absolutely nothing.

Unfinishedkitchen · 16/09/2018 08:59

I think it’s unfair to sneer at people who would pay lots of money for a perfume or candle becuase we all have different levels of disposable income, have different priorities and tastes. Also people spending money keeps people in jobs and the economy going. If we all only shopped in Aldi, we’d soon be in a lot of trouble so each to their own.

Personally I wouldn’t pay £50 for a candle becuase although I love candles, I’m happy with one that costs a fiver, however, I do have a bag that costs close to £1000 given to me as a present from DH for a milestone birthday. A friend told me she would never spend that much on a bag and banged on about other people not being able to afford even £50 for a bag etc etc but I don’t smoke whereas she does and I’m sure she’s spent far more than £1k since she started smoking at 15 then DH did on my one time purchase bag so horses for courses and all that. No need for the inverted snobbery.

beanaseireann · 16/09/2018 09:00

I agree OP
I was so disappointed with the scents when I finally smelled them after all the hype in fashion/ beauty magazines.
Lime, Basil and Mandarin smells 'gone off' to me.
Pomegranate Noir is horrendous imho.
So strong and unpleasant.
Their PR/ Marketing team played a blinder in the early days obviously.
Pear and Freesia is ok.

Give me Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrien any day.Smile
