Lighthearted of course, I'm sure many disagree!

I’m very much over JM to the point I have a load of vouchers for the shop and can’t be bothered to use them. The aldi candles are just as good and a fraction of the price. The shower gels are excellent too.

The quality has gone down and price has gone up. I don’t rate it at all anymore.

Diptyque on the other hand... I’d sell a kidney for an advent calendar.

LockedOutOfMN · 15/09/2018 20:08

Body Shop candles are excellent and not expensive. Good quality, long lasting, they burn evenly and have a distinct, pleasant scent.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/09/2018 20:10

It’s so expensive- but my Jo M perfume gets commented on every time I wear it and the candle definitely lasts better (fragrance wise) than the Aldi equivalent. Both were bought in one of those crazy giveaways they do, I would never buy full price.

PortiaCastis · 15/09/2018 20:13

Anyonewho pays £75 for a candle is fucking deranged

Also agreed, may as well set fire to 3x£20 1x£10 and a fiver, may smell for a while just like Jo Malones Grin

Bluelady · 15/09/2018 20:39

Or go to Aldi and pay a fiver. The reed diffusers are excellent.

AnythingButMagnolia · 15/09/2018 20:54

I can't comment about the scents, but in terms of hand wash etc, how is it worth paying more than a couple of £ for something which you will just rinse straight off?

Same applies to shampoo. I can understand just about why people might buy a more expensive conditioner, as it stays in the hair I get, but I agree it's all clever marketing. I'm sure if we knew who & where the products were made, even people who pay out would be kicking themselves when ( probably) they discovered the same thing is sold at Aldi for a fraction.

AnythingButMagnolia · 15/09/2018 20:56

Also, I knew someone who did have a jo Malone bottle of hand wash but just kept refilling with Baylis and Harding, or the Aldi dupe thereof!

Anotherdayanothernight · 15/09/2018 20:59

Agree, overrated and pricey

user1487194234 · 15/09/2018 21:12

YANBU not to like it
I love it
All down to personal taste

ThatLibraryMiss · 15/09/2018 21:17

fussychica, The Perfume People's Cuchi Blooming is their Gucci Bloom knock-off.

Botanicbaby · 15/09/2018 21:27

The hand wash & hand cream are the best and the scent lingers for ages on me anyway. I absolutely love them. Sorry to PP but I don’t think Baylis & Harding is remotely similar!

The candles are lovely too but you need a lot of them especially if you have high ceilings!

Bluelady · 15/09/2018 22:10

No, B&H isn't on my list either.

ShadyLady53 · 15/09/2018 22:29

Totally NBU. It’s extremely over-rated and not decent value for money at all. I hate generally fruity and citrus smells so got the Blush Peony Cologne and this was one of my worst Fragrance buys ever. It actually smells very cheap and synthetic. I’m more of a Chanel girl but, in all honesty, even the cheap Hollister Wave I bought as a summer fragrance smelled a bit nicer and lasted longer. I also got frequent compliments on it as opposed to nothing with the JM.

The candles and diffusers are nothing special. I much prefer NEOM which I used to get but to be perfectly honest I can no longer justify spending ridiculous amounts on candles and room fragrances. It’s completely a personal thing but it feels a bit obscene to me now to spend £50 on a candle given the fact so many people in this country and beyond can’t afford to feed their families and it disgusts me a bit that our consumerism/materialism has become so extreme betwen throwaway clothing and candles and home fragrance costing more than a weekly food shop or tank of petrol. My view of everything has changed a bit and I’m quite anti-companies that are super commercialised like Jo Malone now, especially given her working class roots. It smacks of hypocriticism.

All that being said, the longest lasting most pleasant smelling candles and room fragrances I ever came across were Bath and Body Works. If you are ever in the US or Dubai for business or pleasure, they are often on offer and can be quite cheap in comparison.

Unfortunately the Aldi and Home Bargains dupes set off some sort of allergic reaction with me and I get terrible sinusitis and watering eyes. They were very well fragranced though 😂. I find Ikea candles and diffusers to be a cheap and decent alternative.

ShadyLady53 · 15/09/2018 22:31

That should have said hypocrisy ffs!

Clarich007 · 15/09/2018 22:35

Overpriced too !
I treated myself to some "Red Roses" perfume.Smell gorgeous at first then after a few hours smells like cat pee. It's got honey as one of the ingredients.I had to scrub it off quick !!

kierenthecommunity · 15/09/2018 22:38

I like the fragrances but they disappear within seconds on me

Me too, and they have some lovely frangrancies but they’re just not worth the money if they don’t last. I’m sure they were better back in the day too.

I’ve heard Jo Loves is nicer quality but we don’t have one in Leeds yet!

FabulousTomatoes · 15/09/2018 22:39

Oh I love Jo Malone. I admit some of the scents don’t last too well (eg wood sage which I love but has no longevity) but I have some which last quite well, eg the intense ones and also Red Roses and the Mimosa one. I adore English Oak and Hazlenut. I quite like the way they are quite subtle and develop more into skin scents during the day. The candles I think smell amazing!

Still each to their own!

fussychica · 15/09/2018 22:46

Thank you bookme and thatlibrary for your help. Looks like The Perfume People is my new place to buy perfume.

AnythingButMagnolia · 15/09/2018 23:24

I wasn't suggesting Baylis & Harding were a dupe, although I think the Aldi range is- just saying that I know so time who used to refill the jo Malone soap dispenser with B&H... Whether anyone noticed the difference sadly wasn't recorded.

AnythingButMagnolia · 15/09/2018 23:24

*someone

user9876 · 15/09/2018 23:31

Diptyque all the way

Togaandsandals · 15/09/2018 23:34

Nice fragrances but ridiculously overpriced.

legolammb · 16/09/2018 00:12

I like the linear fragrances - as migraine sufferer JM's fragrances aren't too heavy or headache inducing so that suits me. I like the simplicity of the packaging too.

Not keen on the sneering at spending money on candles - you could apply that logic to lots of things. I'm not a drinker but people will happily spend a tenner on a bottle of wine every few days. For me, candles are just a nice sensory pleasure and some scents are lovely and relaxing.

AnneLovesGilbert · 16/09/2018 00:23

I love the fragrances. I’m allergic to most perfumes and not these so I’m a fan.

Also addicted to the shower oil. It’s eyewateringly expensive and I eke it out.

BertrandRussell · 16/09/2018 00:30

The Aldi fakes are wonderful- and about 1% the price.
