AIBU to be a bit shocked at this teacher

My DS has come home with a list of spellings for English homework. One of them is the word ‘August’ for which the teacher has broken down into a nice memorable ‘All Ugly Girls Use Spot Treatment’! I feel this is totally unacceptable and a terrible message to put across to young kids.

Absolutely pull the teacher up on it.

And it is technically incorrect. Spot treatment does not 'cure' ugliness.

I think it's a bit off to be honest. Plenty of other ways they could have done this.

I'm sorry but that made me laugh. Change the girls to guys if it makes you feel better. I bet your DS will never ever spell August incorrectly.

If they have to use insults as a way of teaching young girls. Theyre in the wrong career frankly.

I should say that DS is year 7 - a time when a lot of young girls (and boys) will be starting to get acne and feeling very self conscious about it. Surely a better phrase could have been used.

That’s terrible. Easy to dismiss as “harmless fun” but it’s that attitude that has allowed so much appalling behaviour to continue unchecked.

@Shalomjackie and @sugarhunnyicedtea - thanks for that. I am well aware that August is an easy spelling for some year 7’s that’s why I didn’t originally state what year he is in. However my DS has dyspraxia and struggles so is in lowest set - happy now?

It’s not super cool and relaxed to not give a shit about the small instances of sexism that feed into the much bigger picture. It just makes you part of the problem and clearly unable to see you’re part of the problem.
