New thread and still wondering why there has been no apology or acknowledgement of the incident in Loose Women last week.

It was a goady set up from the start, JSP in a judges gown, RTF. Why was LN even there, to support her sister? It was a mess, ill thought out and the producers should accept some responsibility, what did they think would happen, why couldn t they have just had a private meeting between the two of them if that's what they both wanted instead of a deliberate public hanging. Vile programme, hopefully it will go off air soon.

Oliversmumsarmy

So CBB, X factor, The jungle one and a load of other reality and games shows aren’t edited.

The only person who has said they are not edited is you. See above.

You don’t even watch them but you post about them a lot on Mumsnet lol!

knittedwoollenmouse · 07/09/2018 11:14

I would just like to say that, in my opinion, bullying appears to be on the rise and people do seem more brash and confrontational than they used to be. Channels which promote this type of behaviour are bound to have an effect on the people who watch their programmes and then it filters down.

What happened to KW happened to a great many of us at school and in the workplace and bullying is extremely damaging and most people hate to see it. This is why the public have reacted so much to CN and the other ‘presenters’.

I’m reading another thread about bullying in the teaching profession and it is rife now in every part of society. It ruins lives. Surely, we’re above acting like domestic poultry with their cutthroat pecking order?

Oliversmumsarmy · 07/09/2018 11:32

As I have already said I missed the question mark.

Apart from commenting on this clip I would love to know where I have commented on other reality/game shows

FlintyBadman · 07/09/2018 12:24

I don't watch Loose Women but I did see the clip after it was posted on social media.

None of them came out well imo (apart from, maybe, Linda Robson).

Bullying in the teaching profession... bullying teachers by other school staff members or parents or what?

It’s really upsetting. I know the CN scandal has triggered people, so many said it was like being back at school. Perhaps those that haven’t been through it aren’t as sensitive. They should however take note of the depth of feeling of the public even if they don’t have empathy. If CN had done that, held her hands up, she wouldn’t be in this mess now.

5Yearplan4000 · 07/09/2018 12:32

I think Linda Robson was blindsided by the whole thing and probably less to blame than the others. However she went with the flow and was right into the cat fight by the end. The whole thing was so unbelievably unprofessional for a tv programme it was like watching a slanging match in the street. No insight, no analysis. Just gutter awful.

5Yearplan4000 · 07/09/2018 12:34

And yes it was like a schoolyard bullying session. It certainly brought memories back for me. The shame and embarrassment of getting angry (justifiably) and then hounded off for losing control when really the bullies sat there smirking should have been the ones hanging their heads in shame.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/09/2018 12:35

I don't think Linda Robson came out well Flinty.

She was snide at first, and seemed to be enjoying the Pick-on-Kim atmosphere - her "What are you always so angry" comment was patronising and smug. I do think she got a shock when she realised how upset Kim was, and also perhaps when she overheard Collen and Linda's not-very-sotto-voce remarks she realised how horrible everyone was being and didn't want to be associated with the situation.

Many people say she tried to comfort Kim, and Kim "hit her" (RUBBISH!) and that they felt sorry for her. I don't. She somewhat patronisingly patted Kim's arm to calm her down but Kim was beyond that sort of "ether, there" crap. She got up and left - and I think rightly.

All of them behaved badly towards Kim - Linda R may have been the least offensive, but she still has a lot to answer for.

Like the rest of these harpies, though, she has kept very, very quiet.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/09/2018 12:37

*there, there - not ether, there

derxa · 07/09/2018 12:38

Kaye Adams just announced that CN is taking a break from LW and saying how great Coleen is. Oh Kaye how wrong you are.

schoolboyerrors · 07/09/2018 12:40

Is that all that was mentioned?

I’m in a research room, no tv and can’t have sound on my phone!

FlintyBadman · 07/09/2018 12:41

*SchadenfreudePersonified

You could be right. To be honest I don't even know the background to what had happened.

To me it seemed to me that Kim was trying to insinuate that LR had been talking behind CN's back when (apparently) she hadn't? I do think LR seemed genuine when she tried to comfort Kim and I was a bit shocked at Kim's reaction.

I've obviously missed a shitload of backstory though!

Mrsharrison · 07/09/2018 12:46

I agree about Robson. At the beginning the way she raised her voice to KW set the tone.

KW was their guest and they could have handled themselves better.

Sadly when actors and singers take on presenting jobs, they often continue to think of themselves as entertainers instead of journalists.

schoolboyerrors · 07/09/2018 12:52

That talking behind someone’s back thing... Kim told the truth, Linda had said what Kim said she had said. Linda told the truth, her stance was that she did say what she said about Coleen but there was no need for Kim to do a big announcement of it because it was on camera what she’s said, hence the “you’ve just seen the clip” comment.

So both factually right but each coming from a different angle. I think Kim expected Linda to be nice but when she came out she started in with the “Why are you so angry?” line so Kim resorted to (paraphrasing) “ I can see that you’re going to be... you said that Coleen blah blah”.

Sorry, hard to explain. I get both Kim and Linda’s angles. I think Linda got carried away with the mean girl group but wasn’t fully invested. Kim saw which “side” she was on and reacted accordingly.

No hitting was involved.🙄 Let’s face it, if there had been there would be Assault! headlines and charges brought.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/09/2018 12:54

I think Kim was so upset, and working so hard to keep her distress under control, that she couldn't respond to Linda R's overture, which may have been genuine - I don't know. I do think Linda R got a shock when KW responded the way she did. I think the entire coven were expecting her to crumble into tears and then become verbally and maybe even physically violent and abusive. She didn't - she got upset, made a couple of justified comments and got herself out of the situation.

TBH the whole carry on is so horrible and brutal- this type of TV should be banned. Someone is going to get badly hurt - physically and/or emotionally and there will be nothing that can be done to remedy the matter. There has been physical violence on Gerry Springer, and I think someone was even murdered as a result of something that happened on the show.

When audiences are catcalling and being whipped into a state of hysteria by the production team, it can't be good, can it? I hate to think that if I had been in the LW audience I would have contributed to that horror - a sort of mob mentality takes over.

I hadn't thought about it before, but I wonder what the audience members have been feeling about what happened, and about their own part in it. I wonder if any of them are ashamed, or if they are dismissive about it or what?

schoolboyerrors · 07/09/2018 12:58

I read some “I was in the audience “ teeets on the day, now lost in the thousands of hashtags, where indeed the individuals were delighted that “Coleen showed Kim, put her in her place” and “They waved at us!” groupie type stuff.

Not my sort of people!

schoolboyerrors · 07/09/2018 12:59

Tweets not teeets 😁

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/09/2018 13:03

Not my sort either shcoolboyerrors

You'd think they'd t least have the grace to feel embarrassed. The more I think about the situation he worse it seems. Poor Kim - four panellists sniping at her and a full studio audience of however-many laughing at her humiliation and discomfort.

Had I been there (I wouldn't have been, but you know what I mean) I hope I would have had the courage to get up and walk out.

knittedwoollenmouse · 07/09/2018 13:14

schoolboy bullying of teachers by other teachers. People on the thread said the profession was well known for it. If teachers can’t stop that sort of behaviour, how are they supposed to protect bullied children or stop the bullies?

Bullying has always been around, it is a sort of pecking order. However, it seems to be getting worse and presenting it as normal on tv isn’t helping.

FlintyBadman · 07/09/2018 13:17

The audience did sound like a pack of hyenas on the clip I watched.

Why anyone gives Coleen Nolan the time of day let alone applause baffles me. She's always come across as a nasty individual.

Does her sister usually appear on the panel?

SallySideEye · 07/09/2018 13:18

Tbf to the audience they are directed when to boo/cheer/ooh whatever. But still going along with it makes them equal sheeple.

It wasn't too long ago people crowded around for public executions, the older women didn't fare too well then either. 🧙‍♀️

Magicmonster · 07/09/2018 13:22

*Kim has such great dignity. ALL of the others behaved appallingly.

They goaded her, shouted her down, tried to interrupt her*

As I have said before, I am not on CN's side here, but don't understand how she is the villain and KW is the saint.

Where I was sat, it was KW goading, shouting and interrupting. CN did this too to an extent, but had Kim not come out shouting at her and calling her names I imagine she would not have!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/09/2018 13:22

Apparently LN isn't often on the panel Flinty. It seems she was recruited to support CN.

5Yearplan4000 · 07/09/2018 13:30

Linda Nolan was there to “support” her sister, no other reason. She said most of the awful comments catcalling “you’ve no talent, what’s your talent - just being controversial?” And then encouraging the audience to whoop and boast that she’d “ sold 25 million records”.i know that Linda Nolan tragically has terminal cancer, though I don’t think this in anyway explains or justifies her awful behaviour last week on the show - she was the worst of the lot of them. even Janet Street Porter had to say - directed at Linda Nolan “ let’s stop this slagging off for a moment please” when her shouting at Kim threatened to get even more aggressive.
