Takes 3 minutes for the bloody water to turn hot!

Run shower to the correct temp which is just long enough to clean your teeth then jump in the shower.

Urbanbeetler · 23/08/2018 14:44

Or save even more water by catching the cold water in a bucket to water the garden. Or flush the loo.

Every little helps! Grin

I live in a very hot country and its common for us to keep a plastic bucket in the shower use in the summer when the water never runs cold. So you catch the water in the bucket and go back to it later when its cold. Its actually a really nice way to have a shower. You pour jugs of cold water over yourself and its the best part of the day. In fact people routinely keep it full because to come home with your clothes sicking to you is awful and then to get in the shower with the cold water is just beyond fantastic.

Now I get why there's shit up the walls in women's public toilets I really thought women was more hygienic than this well I'm glad I'm me!

Have you had a wash since posting this?

Yes, that's what we have been doing this summer.

We're currently looking into a grey water storage system (and obviously use biodegradable detergent etc.)

A rain water pump with a little reservoir (which we have) is also very useful. :)

Drought resistant plants, mulching, efficient soil irrigation etc are obviously also great steps :)

I don’t understand why people don’t wash their hands especially after going to the toilet Confused. How can you eat or cook food when you haven’t washed your hands? I think it’s disgusting Angry. If you pick up something don’t pass it onto other people, keep it to yourself, no wonder I don’t like using public toilets because of people like you, no excuse for bad hygiene

Fullofregrets33 · 25/08/2018 23:42

We don't have a combination boiler. In the summer we have to use an emersion heater, needs to be put on at least an hour before a bath. In the winter our central heating heats the water.
This makes it difficult to bath /shower early morning as don't have time.

I wash my hair over the sink every day but only have a bath or shower once a week. Usually during the day as a sahm. the other days just have a quick sink wash.

Myself and my husband were brought up this way too, both homes had and still have emersion heaters.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 26/08/2018 01:26

Full of: Confused are you saying you don’t have any hot water to anywhere in the house in the summer as the heating is off? You should be able to get hot water but no heating even in a system like that. don’t you have a timer or something where apart from setting times to come on and off you can set it to “water only” instead of “water and heating”?

We now have a combo but before that we had the old fashioned system like yours m. the cold water tank in the loft for the bathroom taps and the hot water heated by the boiler and stored in a separate tank upstairs. It also had an inmersion Heater in it to give it a boost if anyone wanted a bath in the summer.

sadiekate · 26/08/2018 02:35

A while ago I started a thread on why people don't wash their hands when they're supposed to (I have always wondered). Mumsnet's attitudes to hygiene seem slightly inconsistent:
Me: "Why don't people wash their hands at sensible times?"
Mumsnet: "Oh my God you are a hygiene freak for suggesting people should wash their hands religiously after using the toilet"
This poster: "I don't have a bath every day"
Mumsnet: "YOU ARE DISGUSTING"

Fullofregrets33 · 26/08/2018 08:12

@CurlyhairedAssassin no our heating doesn't have a separate water function, or a timer. It just switches both on and off.

If I want hot water in the summer I have to put the emersion on.

Washing dishes or small amount required I boil a kettle.

pachiano1 · 26/08/2018 08:48

That will be the ones that climb onto the toilet seat, squat and shit goes everywhere.

Disgusting.

MeyMary · 26/08/2018 10:20

@sadiekate

Absolutely.

I wash my hands before and after the toilet, when I get home and before I cook/prepare food.

Mumsnet: isn't that obsessive?

Me: I don't think so...

"I have occasionally miscalculated my hair washes and woken up with slightly greasy hair. I just put it up in a plaited bun and washed it in the evening."

Mumsnet: "you stink! Unhygienic soap dodger!!"

Grin
CurlyhairedAssassin · 26/08/2018 10:27

@fullofregrets33 : you boil a kettle? Shock If you can afford it it may be time to upgrade your heating system!

Theunmumsymummy · 26/08/2018 11:10

OP, tbh I don't think that sounds too bad at all. Four times a week is absolutely fine. I can't quite understand why so many people on here are accusing you of poor mental health- it's completely possible to not shower every day and be absolutely fine mentally. Don't think it was the best idea, going to Mumsnet for support though.Grin

cmlover · 26/08/2018 12:17

full I used to have a system like that. it's annoying and I'm so glad the council put in a combi. .

I used to set the time so have hot water in the morning and again around 3 so we could have hot water in the evening dc used to share baths to.

LittleMissedTheSunshine · 26/08/2018 12:27

I shower every other day unless it's hot weather or I've been doing exercise. Dont think it's necessary to shower daily.

Easynow · 13/09/2018 06:49

Daily shower here. I like smelling of soap & deodrant when I move Grin

2bigtossers · 04/10/2018 21:38

I might go down to 1 shower a day, now its getting colder Shock

Fluffypie1 · 04/10/2018 21:55

Talk to your gp .You may be suffering with depression if you can't be bothered to wash

BlueThesaurusRex · 04/10/2018 22:01

I try to have a shower every day but I do miss days occasionally! I don’t think you’re grim but I do think you should always wash your hands after going to the loo Grin

tigercub50 · 04/10/2018 22:08

And the award for longest thread goes to.....
I don’t have a shower every day, only when I wash my hair, which is usually every 3 days. But I am religious about handwashing & horrified by the amount of people that walk out of public loos without doing so 😦

seventhgonickname · 04/10/2018 22:30

What I hate most is people who have showered that morning and used every product under the sun.One persons clean smell is anothers stinky nightmare.

tillytoodles1 · 04/10/2018 22:35

I lost my sense of smell after a stroke two years ago. Reading this thread makes me glad.

2bigtossers · 05/10/2018 08:30

I saw a lady sprinkle her hands with water in the supermarket loos a few days ago.

No soap, no lathering, no vigorous rubbing Shock just a sprinkle.

Gross. Why bother.

Sidalee7 · 05/10/2018 08:43

I shower every morning and again if I go for a run later in the day. You can't be clean washing every 3 days. Also it's about self care and self respect
