As a child we only had a bath on a Sunday night but washed pits and bits everyday. We were not smelly and was the norm for most households. I shower every other day and wash thoroughly on non shower days. Advised by Dr when I had my kids not to bath them everyday as it dries out the skin and natural oils etc that prevent infections. My dd showers every other day to tame her hair as much as anything and ds daily. My oh never showers but has a bath every other day and suffers with skin problems was told to bath less but dosn't listen. I think we really do go over the top on cleanliness sometimes and it does more bad than good. I played in the dirt on real grass, ate mud, drank from streams lived to tell the tale and have rarely been sick apart from usual chickenpox/German measles caught from other kids and now a healthy full time working OAP. The sickliest the child I've ever known had a mother who bathed her twice a day, changed her clothes at least 4 times a day, discinfected the house daily and had specific shoes for different types of terrain e.g. 1 for grass (garden), 1 for grass (park), 1 for concrete, one for carpet, 1WinkWink hard indoor floors, it was nightmare spending time with them and dd was always sick. Hand washing a given but if I'm in the wilds and there's no where to wash them I'm not going to lose sleep over it.Wink

Funny how the soap dodgers

Categorically DO Not get stinky EVER

The non hair washers

Never get greasy/Crusty hair EVER

Infant they barely sweat EVER

StorminaTCut · 20/08/2018 13:29

Whats the point of wasting all that water? Imo, a 3 minute shower is just an excuse to say "I showered"

The point is to feel clean before I go out to work or go to bed.

pigsDOfly · 20/08/2018 14:13

Yes, agree about the non stinky soap dodgers.

During the hot weather I could smell my next door neighbour's stinky armpits over the garden fence.

I bet he thinks he doesn't stink either.

esk1mo · 20/08/2018 14:18

martha i know right, imagine people being different?!

its like saying its funny how some people claim not to be tired after 5 hours sleep. we all know they’re lying. especially because i need 8 hours. they cant be different from what i know as the norm. nope.

MarthasGinYard · 20/08/2018 14:21

No they stink

Can smell some of em' just perusing the thread

CoalTit · 20/08/2018 14:25

Showering often doesn't guarantee that you'll be clean. I've had 3 boyfriends who showered every day and still had a strange fungus on their armpit hair. One of them still had smelly armpits after a really long shower.
The other thing showers don't really help is dirty toenails and built-up skin on your feet.
Showers feel great, though, which I suppose is why people shower often when it would really be more hygenic to wash their hands more often. I know that you can do both, but in reality, lots of people who shower at least once a day don't wash their hands before they eat.

madmomma · 20/08/2018 14:28

itsalldyingout can you explain a bit more about the hibiscrub thing please? It sounds interesting.

MarthasGinYard · 20/08/2018 14:29

I must admit in this hot weather I have spotted some awful hooves.

Dirty long creepy toenails and cracked dirty flaking heels, encompassed in some awful flip flop style.

No way some of these feet have been washed for a while

Fhe same as how the weird obsessives always know categorically that someone who doesn’t smell had a shower that morning without asking! Amazing.

Eliza9917 · 20/08/2018 14:35

I do wash my hands grin just not very often!

Do you wash your hands after using the toilet?

What about before cooking?

Or staying on the toilet theme, do you wash your hands after cleaning the toilet?

Do you not have a wash first thing in the morning? I can understand not getting in the bath or shower if you had one the night before but you should still at least wash your face or have a strip wash.

MarthasGinYard · 20/08/2018 14:36

I'm strangely not too 'weirdly obsessive'

Just clean

Electrascoffee · 20/08/2018 14:37

Ewwwww, if there’s one thing I can’t stand it’s when people don’t wash. They smell in the line at the post office. If you’re not homeless there is never any excuse for poor hygiene.

MissusGeneHunt · 20/08/2018 14:40

'To maintain good health for you and those around you, you should shower or bathe twice a day for perfect hygiene, daily for good hygiene or every other day at a bare minimum.'
@Lisabel.... Who says? I've agreed with your thread about hand-washing after using the loo, but showering twice a day to maintain health? I'd be interested in the source of that, and if I'm wrong I stand corrected. I still won't shower twice a day though unless for a specific reason...

Has your sexual relationship broken down?

I'm betting he doesn't do something nice for her that often Hmm

picklemepopcorn · 20/08/2018 14:48

I do a lot of handwashing, but don't shower very frequently. Using soaps disrupts the skins acid mantle. My skin is fragile and sensitive. I have to be very careful.

Most people who smell don't change their clothes often enough.

Every body is different... every body responds differently to stress, exercise, soap...
I have to shower if I've had a prolonged confrontation, or scare of some kind. The smell of fear on me is rank. Don't get trapped in a lift with me...

ColaCubez · 20/08/2018 15:32

NRTFT but I once had a partner who, after a few months of living togèther, got so comfortable and sure of himself that he thought I'd still fancy him if he didn't get showered / shaved / brush his hair / brush his teeth / change his clothes

I had to prompt him several times with refusals to share a bed, or any affection. He just got sulky.

I went right off him. In fact he turned my stomach and I threw him out not long after.

I suffer with mh issues myself, but no matter how crap I feel I always ensure I wash both in the morning and before bed. I can tolerate a lot in a person, but not poor personal hygiene. It's just the basics and the least any adult can do for themselves if they have access to clean fresh water on a daily basis.

JamForBrains · 20/08/2018 15:50

Don't always have time to have a shower or a bath everyday but I do have a wash everyday. I am always washing my hands too.

OFuckShitAndBollocks · 20/08/2018 16:03

It reads to me like a few of us need to just be accepting of the fab phrase, different strokes for different folks. Not sure why so many of us are being so very judgemental? And if us non regular washers say we don't smell why would you assume we're wrong? Not showering everyday doesn't close over nostrils nor does it make anyone a liar.

As for the comment about crusty hair, I haven't used shampoo or conditioner for well over a year and have never had an issue with my hair, it's in amazing condition and categorically doesn't smell. Also shampoo can be bad for your hair/environment....just ask google.

When I was a kid at boarding school we were only allowed one bath a week and the younger years had to share baths. Our school didn't stink. Clean clothes matter too people!

MarthasGinYard · 20/08/2018 16:08

'When I was a kid at boarding school we were only allowed one bath a week and the younger years had to share baths. Our school didn't stink. Clean clothes matter too people!'

My Dp talks about this.

Early 70's boarding age 7 at a very Prestigious school.

Queues for baths and if you were last in it was cold.

He talks of memories and describes himself as cheesy by midweek Grin

He's an avid daily showerer now though....

And keeps his nails immaculate

meadowmeow · 20/08/2018 16:31

after a few months of living togèther, got so comfortable and sure of himself that he thought I'd still fancy him if he didn't get showered / shaved / brush his hair / brush his teeth / change his clothes

This is the reason I split with my first husband. I told him and everyone else it was over a financial matter involving his mum. There was a situation, but I could have got past that, I could eat past the manky bastard trying to shag me though! It's been over 20 years and I have never admitted that to anyone Grin

PuddinginPerth · 20/08/2018 16:45

Disgusting. I bathe twice a day. Shower in the morning and a bath at night. It is necessary. Women are filthy, much filthier than men. Do you not even ramp up your cleaning routine when you’re on your period??

How often would you even change your clothes?!

I have fresh clothes every day, fresh pyjamas every night and I wash my sheets at least once a week.

I would imagine the house is filthy as well. It’s disgusting you think your situation is funny.

Eliza9917 · 20/08/2018 16:52

This. Do you not wash every day during that week?
