cosmos

whilst I agree and don't understand how you can't wash every day, have clean clothes change need sheets weekly I would still rarther be friends and hang round with onetime
due to you sounding vile.

ometime the given up is load when you speak, and I find that really sad. I hope you get this job and it's the start of a happier furture.

RoseWhiteTips · 21/08/2018 21:56

Me too.

noprobllamas · 21/08/2018 22:00

I wash my hands a lot, not as much as i used to but I can't stand a lot of smells and hate my hands being sticky from touching foods

onetimeposter · 21/08/2018 22:13

Aw cheers cm lover.
Think cosmo is having a bad day. Perhaps she sat next to me on the bus earlier and my unwashed skin brushed her arm.

ReginaPhalangee · 21/08/2018 22:24

OP don't take this the wrong way but having the Fairy detergent ad pop up every 10 posts has made me chuckle!! Grin

Barbie222 · 21/08/2018 23:14

Ewwwww. I can smell so many people when out and about, I must have a sensitive nose and they will be nose blind, or associating just with other soap dodgers. Definitely agree that the post office does not smell good!!!

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 22/08/2018 11:17

I love it when people who wash infrequently boldly claim how they ‘don’t smell’.

You are deluded.

Cosmos45 · 22/08/2018 11:23

Apologies - was seriously irritated by being called "Stupid" by someone who claims they don't smell due to not washing.. Anyone who doesn't wash regularly is going to smell worse than someone who washes daily. Simple fact regarding sweat, body odours, body waste etc etc - Just because you're nose blind to it doesn't mean you don't smell.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 22/08/2018 11:25

I must say the reek of a soap dodger is most unpleasant.
it is the unwashed hair, and unwashed clothes like jumpers and coats that is the worst.
I don't think they realise just how bad it is..

KatKit16 · 22/08/2018 11:44

I am a daily washer but I thought that perhaps I was washing too often (purely from this thread). So yday I thought I'd trial not washing! I've got to say I stank! My hair felt greasy & my pits grimy. Truly felt disgusting. Even if I only have a quick 3 minute shower - I shall continue to scrub daily 😀

picklemepopcorn · 22/08/2018 12:37

I think the modern overuse of toiletries may make the problem worse.

I don't use any hair product- when I've had mousse, spray, gel, wax, even conditioner, my hair feels dirty so much more quickly.

There is a product called Mother Dirt which is interesting. It reseeds the skin biome, to balance the symbiotic bacteria which process the sweat and oil on your skin.

Clionba · 22/08/2018 15:35

You don't need to "reseed the skin's biome".
Regular washing with non antibacterial soaps and cleansers does not disrupt this. It's only if you use antibacterial washes and surgical scrub cleansers that you will get rid of the bacteria, including pathogens. Even very regular and methodical showering will not rid you of these. Hence medical professionals using specialist washes.

I must say, the idea of not washing everyday (especially in summer...) is a bit...Hmm imo.

I understand a sink/flannel wash if you have skin issues or no shower. That would work as well... It's not like people's knee are stinky/release BO. It's places like the pits/privates etc... A full sink and a cloth would work as well!

As for hair: I must admit, I couldn't wash it everyday.

I simply wash it when it loses root volume... It's not stinky when that happens (I asked DH because of this threadGrin) but it just looks nicer with voluminous roots. So I wash it about 2 times a week in summer...

The few times I misjudge the situation in the evening and wake up with flat roots I just put it up in a bun/braid ;)

Btw, putting in curlers over the night (I usually don't but have tried it a few times...) somehow prevents flat roots (in my case).

Maybe that's why women's hair still looked nice in the "olden days" despite less frequent washing?

Sarahandduck18 · 23/08/2018 06:55

These people who don't shower every day - do you just not move?

No, drive to work, sit at a desk all day, drive home.

The most exercise is a gentle walk at the weekend.

I don’t sweat.

I timed how long my shower took the other day-25 minutes. That’s how long it took to wash and condition hair, shave legs and armpits, exfoliate, pumice feet wash face and wash body with shower gel.

I don’t think these people who take 3 min showers are actually getting clean- they are just getting wet.

StorminaTCut · 23/08/2018 07:54

Water on, soap on, water off.

Then off to work, lugging heavy equiptment around all day and driving, lots of stairs, home, 20 min fast exercise - football, bike or walk with DD, another shower, eat, bed.

Up at 06.00, bed by 11.00.

Boring but smelling beautiful.

MarthasGinYard · 23/08/2018 08:37

'I don’t think these people who take 3 min showers are actually getting clean- they are just getting wet.'

I manage it

Sakura7 · 23/08/2018 08:40

You don't need 25 minutes to shower properly. Takes about 30 seconds to lather up shampoo in your hair and the same amount of time to rinse it out. If you use conditioner, clip your hair up and wash your body, then rinse out the conditioner. Lathering up a bit of soap or shower gel in your hands and then applying it to your skin doesn't take very long.

MarthasGinYard · 23/08/2018 08:40

'No, drive to work, sit at a desk all day, drive home.

Blimey what a scarily sedatory existence.

LouLouLove · 23/08/2018 08:43

Couldn't get myself ready for the day without having a shower, i'd feel yukky.

ElspethFlashman · 23/08/2018 09:19

The least I can manage to shower is 15 mins. But I have long hair, so 5 mins for shampooing and 5 mins for rinsing it out well, as well as 5 mins for lathering body.

My DH really only takes 5 mins but that's because he has no hair.

I am pretty baffled by the 3 minute claims. Takes me 3 minutes just to take off my pyjamas. Takes 3 minutes for the bloody water to turn hot!

I have visions of people stripping off, standing in shower, splashing shower gell willy nilly, half rinsing it off and standing on the mat going "TA DAHHHH!" with barely an armpit half scrubbed.

Sakura7 · 23/08/2018 09:37

It just takes a bit of practice, a lot of people faff about and take their time in shower, but if you make an effort to do it more quickly you can basically train yourself to take shorter showers. I would have taken longer when I was in my teens/early twenties, but now I want the extra few minutes in bed before I have to get up!

StorminaTCut · 23/08/2018 12:34

No need to scrub when you do it twice a day Halo

PollyFlinderz · 23/08/2018 14:19

nonsense.

Urbanbeetler · 23/08/2018 14:22

How dirty are you that you can’t rinse off 24 hrs of sweat and dust in a few minutes?

Spreadingcudweed · 23/08/2018 14:25

I used to go out with someone in the RAF. He took a 3min shower every morning; said it was a military thing! Same with my elderly aunt who was a nurse in the WRENS. It's definitely doable. I can only manage it in 5 mins if I concentrate (short hair washed quickly everyday, one shampoo, one thorough soaping all over, 3 very good rinses and out). I'd feel really grim if I didn't start every day that way! Also love a long bath on occasion.
