I often can’t be arsed. Dh has to prompt me. Anyone else?

I am surprised so many people are horrified that op only showers four times a week (are you sure it’s that much op?)

There was a recent thread on here where I would say two thirds of posters admitted they did not wash their hands after using the toilet. Some people had an excuse eg eczema but most just didn’t bother as they didn’t think it was important Confused.

DameDoom · 18/08/2018 17:27

MH/medical issues aside, I think it is selfish and anti-social to inflict unpleasant bodily smells on other members of the public because someone cannot be arsed to wash.

SnowyAlps · 18/08/2018 17:27

I havent showered since Thursday night. I am bathing tonight. However I am a) in a great deal of pain with my back, so I couldn’t even step into the bath to shower yesterday b) my bipolar is on its crazy at the moment. However even when my bp is going crazy I still shower or bath, but I know plenty don’t when they are having a mental health crisis. And by the way I need to shower/bath because I can smell myself even though I’ve done nothing except lie down in pain for 3 days!!

blueberrycoconut · 18/08/2018 17:28

It varies Girls

At the moment, say today, I woke up late and I haven’t washed. Have done my teeth but nothing else. I had a bath yesterday. I may or may not wash tomorrow, depends.

haaaaaair · 18/08/2018 17:29

Yeah, I'm pretty bad at this. I reckon I get the chance to shower/bath once a week if I'm lucky. It would be more but the bathroom is next to the baby's room and she Confused wake up at the slightest of noises.

Lethaldrizzle · 18/08/2018 17:29

'Who wouldn't want to wash before and after work?' Eh? Is this a thing now, - before - yes, after - er no.

StorminaTCut · 18/08/2018 17:30

PinguDance Im sure you wouldn't smell too bad if you strip wash, feet, face & privates on your non shower day! Grin

I would feel groggy, sweaty and so unfresh if I didnt shower after a nights sleep & after 9 hours grafting.

imnotreally · 18/08/2018 17:30

Considering the number of people who walk out of a public bathroom without washing their hands either those people aren't on mumsnet or this thread is vastly under representative of the non hand washers Hmm

AhNowTed · 18/08/2018 17:31

Have to laugh at some of the responses on here.

"How is your mental health?" 😂

Just because someone doesn't shower every day!

I have a customer facing role, and that means shower, hair, makeup, every working day.

Frankly if I want to take a break and slob out at the weekend and give my skin a rest who gives a fuck.

StorminaTCut · 18/08/2018 17:33

There is no way people would do a days hard graft and get into bed without washing! I dont buy it.

AhNowTed · 18/08/2018 17:35

@StorminaTCut

So your advocating twice a day as the acceptable norm?

I don't buy it.

Bluelady · 18/08/2018 17:35

Depends on the job. One shower a day's enough in a sedentary job.

Urbanbeetler · 18/08/2018 17:37

I commute across London and often have to stand, holding the handrails to steady myself.

The first thing I do when I get in the door is wash my face, hands and lower arms thoroughly in hot soapy water. I think I’d have a permanent cold otherwise!

TooManyPaws · 18/08/2018 17:38

I shower every second day and wash my hair every 5-6 days. Clothes are clean on every day. I have face flannels and fanny (body really) flannels for one time use for in between. I lose count of how many times I wash my hands every day, and always after the loo.

I was brought up to bathe every day but doctors' advice was every other day due to excema. I used to wash my hair every day when it was short but that was only because it would stick out all over unless plastered down.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 18/08/2018 17:39

Just because someone doesn't shower every day!

No, not “just” because of that. Because so many of us experience not washing as a symptom of poor mental health. I think it was a perfectly justified question.

Lethaldrizzle · 18/08/2018 17:39

Nope I get into bed after a hard day's work, all dirty and everything. Also never get colds.

BertieBotts · 18/08/2018 17:39

I didn't mean I thought you were BTW. I thought it was genuine hence my response. :)

StorminaTCut · 18/08/2018 17:43

So your advocating twice a day as the acceptable norm?

Of course, its normal to wash, apply deodrant to clean underarms, brush teeth & put clean clothes on before you leave the house for the day & brush teeth & wash before bed.

Its basic hygeine. 5 minutes twice a day.

You could add exfoliating, moisturising and shaving armpits as well, but I dont do that daily.

DameDoom · 18/08/2018 17:52

Going to work fresh, clean and smelling nice boosts my self-esteem and productivity and is the professional thing to do.
Coming home and showering or bathing the day off helps me relax in to home mode.
I have very fine hair and oily skin - am a bit of a sweaty Betty too - if I didn't shower twice a day I would definitely smell and feel really uncomfortable and irritable.
I really enjoy the whole process of getting clean.

TheDarkPassenger · 18/08/2018 17:53

I wash my hair maybe once a week, sometimes it gets to 8 days or so.. people are shocked because it rarely looks unclean but it is sort of Afro-Mediterranean(?) hair so very fluffy and if I washed it every day it would be horrific. I think my hair is used to it now! I shower ever day but I think 4/7 days is plenty enough as long as you don’t smell horrifically... I think I could do 3 days no washing and only just start to smell, but I excercise so I wouldn’t. When my ocd was bad I showered 3 or 4 times a day and my skin was horrific!

LakieLady · 18/08/2018 18:01

'Who wouldn't want to wash before and after work?' Eh? Is this a thing now, - before - yes, after - er no.

I think if you do a job that's dirty or very physical (ie makes you sweaty), it makes perfect sense to shower after work.

DarthLipgloss · 18/08/2018 18:02

I have a full wash either bath/shower or hands face bits pits in sink every day, and would probably have a wash/shower if poss if i thought sex was on the cards, my dp would not be bothered if i didn't but I would. Go get your flannel!

toolazytothinkofausername · 18/08/2018 18:07

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquagenic_pruritus

I wash my hands, but due to above condition I only bathe once a month. I wash my hair over the sink 1-3 times per month.

polkadotpixie · 18/08/2018 18:09

I shower every other day and wash in between. My skin and hair get really dry if I shower every day

I have a very sedentary job and barely sweat (I actually think there's something wrong with my body sweating function as I don't even really sweat when exercising)

I do wash my hands multiple times a day though and clean my teeth every day and I did shower daily during the heatwave but more to keep cool than from necessity
