To think that instagram has jumped the shark?

I used to really love instagram it as a place to get inspiration, eduction or a point in the right direction to go do some research myself on various topics, but am getting bored of it.

The influencer wars (with some clearly playing the game more than others Hmm ), the woke activists who are beginning to believe their own hype (their content becoming about them and how good they are), even the naice art and design accounts that I predominately follow are beginning to be a little lacking.

AIBU to think that insta is in a death spiral? If so (because clearly I have forgotten life before it) where do people find informative and / or creative inspiration outside of it these days. Blogs seem to have died, and facebook is a non starter!

NC because well I am bored!

I think the answer is to stop following instamums? That seems to be the cause of all these problems.

I did follow one for a while, because I liked her house (I mainly use mine for friends' lives, photography, interiors and gardens). She got irritating with drama and too many ads, so I deleted her. I don't care about stuff like that, I just want to see pretty pictures.

Cigarettes and calpol is a thoroughly good human, she always has my vote.

If you want to expand your horizons from instamums, can I suggest KissCub. That woman is an inspiration. Cookies and Kibbles is bloody hilarious.

Daily over view is beautiful pictures, as are Life of a Ballerina.

Hilton Carter is the most amazing plant man ever!

I've recently started following dailyoverview (recommended on a previous thread) and its my instagram favourite!

langkaw · 14/08/2018 17:32

Yes! Kisscub and her daughter are bloody amazing. Amy is a reason to stay on instagram.

The shutting down of discussion, the propoganda, the fawning over certain instamums with no dissent allowed is like some weird personality cult.

boredyboredy · 14/08/2018 17:33

@fruitshot - thanks. Am going to steer clear of any 'mums' I think Wink. Off to explore the others though. Much appreciated.

I really like cigarettesandcalpol, and motheroffiveboys I find her/their enthusiasm and energy just crazy. I’m not sure how they can afford all that traveling as her account is not particularly ad heavy but the way they just continually travel with little kids including twin babies is awesome. Although on the flip side the kids are heavily featured which is always a bit uncomfortable.

finks100 · 14/08/2018 17:34

Gary Janetti is hilarious, go have a look it will make you laugh!

ItsColdNow · 14/08/2018 17:36

Daily overview and natgeo are great to have in your feed too.

AmberLangslow · 14/08/2018 17:37

Can someone please explain the cryptic comments? I ha e no idea what half this thread is on about!

(I use IG mostly for family and friends and find it a bit dull in general but I’m obviously not following the right pages!!!)

oliviatrivia · 14/08/2018 17:38

There is a difference between bullying and discussion and in a lot of threads (particularly about instamums) both of these things are happening - some discussion and comments (and it’s ok to not like someone and vocalise that) but then some personal attacks which are unacceptable (not referring to this thread, just in general).

It just ends up in a shit show where people only see the unacceptable stuff.

highheelsandbobblehats · 14/08/2018 17:38

I love following handluggageonly. Some serious travel envy right there.

Try following hashtags rather than people to change your content. I started following #amsterdam before we went there, and now having booked a trip to Iceland, I now follow #Reykjavik. Means that my feed is full of amazing pictures and inspiration of where to visit when I arrive. I also follow certain style hashtags as I'm hopeless at fashion, but get inspiration from much more stylish ladies than I. I also follow Cig and Cal. She's bloody lovely. And the IGer mentioned earlier attacked me on another persons IG thread once when I disagreed with her, so I don't have any time for her. I'd never even heard of her into that moment. Also look for Mervin the chihuahua and Littlest Jack for small dogs in NYC wearing hoodies.

Breadsticksandhummus · 14/08/2018 17:38

I follow a lot of cake and food accounts too, love those. Catfoodcakes.com is great.

oliviatrivia · 14/08/2018 17:38

And comments by celebs is a funny account to follow on IG!

UnlawfulBananaPeeler · 14/08/2018 17:39

I have followed some of these threads from the very first insta v mumsnet thread. I actually missed the end of the last thread that kicked the last shit show off .

IMHO I think it’s been escalated by some a bit beyond what it is. I didn’t see anyone calling her a terrible mother , and I don’t think she is. I think her child has been exposed to some topics a bit too old for her years but I guess that personal preference. Some people don’t agree with the way I raise my children.
But looking at that persons Instagram she has said some very pointed and horrible things about other influencers (including the Harvey Weinstein thing which is actually just deeply horrible and offensive) and now she seems to be making a huge song and dance that people have said things to her.

It all seems hugely blown out of proportion

Breadsticksandhummus · 14/08/2018 17:39

Catfoodcakes - no idea where the.com came from!!!

HolyMountain · 14/08/2018 17:40

I'm currently looking for ways to use pallets as garden furniture, IG is priceless for inspiration [yes I know it's a shit overused word but it's true] when you have a dullard creative mind like mine.

MistressOfTheGarter · 14/08/2018 17:41

Ooh handluggageonly looks very swoony. Duly followedSmile

For I wish I could afford that envy, follow #Cheapoldhouses massive doeruppers for mostly under £100,000 and even free or a dollar sometimes.

Brendatheblender · 14/08/2018 17:42

I like everything CC stands for and admire her for what she has been through but she cannot make comments on others if she doesn’t want it to happen to her. That’s common sense right?

Brendatheblender · 14/08/2018 17:43

The GOMI thread about her was way out of line though, she has every right to be angry about that.

Yes it was horrid. But it wasn't mumsnet.

IhatetheArchers · 14/08/2018 17:44

I think some people confuse instagram with real life !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Etc.
