To think that instagram has jumped the shark?

I used to really love instagram it as a place to get inspiration, eduction or a point in the right direction to go do some research myself on various topics, but am getting bored of it.

The influencer wars (with some clearly playing the game more than others Hmm ), the woke activists who are beginning to believe their own hype (their content becoming about them and how good they are), even the naice art and design accounts that I predominately follow are beginning to be a little lacking.

AIBU to think that insta is in a death spiral? If so (because clearly I have forgotten life before it) where do people find informative and / or creative inspiration outside of it these days. Blogs seem to have died, and facebook is a non starter!

NC because well I am bored!

Oh I LOVE instagram. I think it is the best thing since sliced bread. I think I follow over 400 different accounts, I find it totally inspirational, but then I follow a lot of creatives across many genres, from interior designers, to textile artists, basket weavers, dancers, photographers of landscapes, architecture and abandoned places and travellers. I follow accounts about beautiful doorways, and windows, cottages, super cheap, and amazing doer uppers in America, foodies, graffiti artists, indian dye makers...it can take you anywhere! Checking my feed gets me through depressing times and boring days. I am ill and the accounts associated with my illness are full of positive quotes and funny memes. I follow one or two activists, but for very specific issues.

It's helped me live a more conscious and beautiful life as I have incorporated some of what I see to real life. I know I am blowing my own trumpet, but my feed is nothing but positive and the algorithm gives me only humour and more beauty and feeds my curiosity. It's all about what you sign up to!

I hate the way MN is basically slandered over one or two posts from absolute dick heads, which are fairly swiftly removed. Its not the first time it has happened, and like a PP said, on an anonymous forum, is to be expected from time to time.

This whole thing of MN being a 'cess pit of anti feminism and hatred and unkindness and this and that' based on a couple of posts (that other posters on the thread call out and report) is just total bollocks.

Hangingaroundtheportal · 14/08/2018 16:57

I agree that Instagram is what you make it and it all depends on what you follow. The 'influencer' thing does seem to be eating itself though, but like anything, the bubble was bound to burst eventually.

It was bought out by Facebook, so now it’s all about the banjamins, baby. I stopped using it too. Pinterest still has decent content.

finks100 · 14/08/2018 17:01

Just found Esther the pig...wow a pig in a house, a really large pig!

I am really glad to see discussing Esther the Pig means I get what I deserve (is that a lot of bacon?? Or would that be cruel to Esther)

@mentalUnload - I had to google what banjamins meant!

I can’t get my head around Pinterest. I’ve tried to use it several times.

finks100 · 14/08/2018 17:09

I love Instagram for its inspiration, I knit so it is great to see patterns and projects that people are working on.
I also follow abbounts about art, drawing, painting, travel, interior design, farming, cooking. There is so much on there, like others I stop following once a feed becomes adverts that aren’t relevant to me.

Breadsticksandhummus · 14/08/2018 17:10

Oh this is going to kick off now as it's filtered over to Instagram. Thread will go poof.

Nobody on this thread has questioned her parenting skills. I think she's great. What I don't agree with, as a WC WOC, is the lumping of the whole of MN together. I have had support here which has honestly saved my life.

ItsColdNow · 14/08/2018 17:10

@boredyboredy yes! That wasn’t clear to me at all. Instagram is saturated with instamums so they will crop up.
So you posted a thread about Instagram that was supposed to be about other platforms used for inspiration? Sorry but I found your title and post unclear.
I am generally not keen on blogs and now Instagram is predominantly monetised and ad saturated it’s changed hugely.

Kismett · 14/08/2018 17:10

Oh yes, I like it for interiors too. I follow a lot of new build hashtags and new build house accounts. We don’t have a new build but we do have a tiny modern house which means that Pinterest is not always realistic inspiration. I like seeing the amazing things other people do in tiny spaces.

Also when I wanted to buy our dining table and chairs online, I was worried about the dimensions and whether they’d fit together. I found someone else who had them and she was really helpful with measurements and pictures.

MentalUnload · 14/08/2018 17:10

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/It's_All_About_the_Benjamins Now I feel old!

fruitshot · 14/08/2018 17:11

Mumsnet isn't evil.

Some of the bellends that use it are, but I could say that about babycentre, netmums, or my local ALDI.

SpiritedFarAway · 14/08/2018 17:11

This is bloody bonkers.

MN isn't anti feminist, it's a really supportive place for a lot of users and can be the definition of women supporting women sometimes.
As can Instagram 😐

MentalUnload · 14/08/2018 17:11

Pinterest is a bit confusing but also less addictive so I like it!

Hangingaroundtheportal · 14/08/2018 17:11

Funny that this has gone 'over' to Instagram so quickly. Especially when apparently no one on Instagram goes on MN because all Mumsnetters are such bitches.

boredyboredy · 14/08/2018 17:12

So clearly AIBU - as there are a few of you who are still in love with the platform - it doesn't look like it is dying a death anytime fast....

So hit me up with instagram accounts - centered around art, interiors and food as they seem to be the least controversial - that I should check out please! Oh and any more random animals living like humans are always welcome too.

Exactly Hangingaround 😒

Hangingaroundtheportal · 14/08/2018 17:12

Yeah I can't deal with Pinterest at all, I don't get it!
