To think that instagram has jumped the shark?

I used to really love instagram it as a place to get inspiration, eduction or a point in the right direction to go do some research myself on various topics, but am getting bored of it.

The influencer wars (with some clearly playing the game more than others Hmm ), the woke activists who are beginning to believe their own hype (their content becoming about them and how good they are), even the naice art and design accounts that I predominately follow are beginning to be a little lacking.

AIBU to think that insta is in a death spiral? If so (because clearly I have forgotten life before it) where do people find informative and / or creative inspiration outside of it these days. Blogs seem to have died, and facebook is a non starter!

NC because well I am bored!

Oh this is going to kick off now as it's filtered over to Instagram. Thread will go poof.

How has it gone over to Insta? On what page?

ItsColdNow · 14/08/2018 17:15

I love all the small own business accounts with craft and clothes making. Many were shafted by the algorithm changes and suffered from lack of exposure so disappeared which was so sad. But there’s lots of people doing lovely things.

Mothertoofive · 14/08/2018 17:16

I think some of these Instagram accounts are absolutely amazing and the things they stand for standing tall when surrounded by conflict negative and yes bullies people who use children to make a point in a damn right pathetic argument against a woman who's shown more fight more spirit in her than anyone could wish for them selves beating the odd what ever they are small or big things are not the point and no one can sit judging any other woman it's actually disgusting and if u found any of your children doing this about other school friends I hope u would be shocked and upset and not allow it. We do not have to all agree or get along but we all should support each other none the less there is so much more in life that's painfull and thus is pathetic people starve die ect and your concerned with a single mother raising a beautiful strong daughter shame!!!!! On u

theOtherPamAyres · 14/08/2018 17:16

I followed a load of knitting designers, yarn producers, rare breed flock owners and indie dyers.

And all I got were artful photos of balls of wool, day after day, hour after hour. No matter where in the world, they's inspire me (not) with comments like " ooh s-oooo squishy", or "amazing colours - what shall I make with this bundle of loveliness?"

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn. I just don't want to see another ball of wool for a long time. Byeeee Instagram!

Breadsticksandhummus · 14/08/2018 17:16

How has it gone over to Insta? On what page?

It's on someone's stories.

ShirleyPhallus · 14/08/2018 17:17

Whose stories?

Breadsticksandhummus · 14/08/2018 17:17

yes bullies people who use children to make a point in a damn right pathetic argument against a woman who's shown more fight more spirit in her than anyone could wish for them selves beating the odd

Mate I agree with you but where has anyone done that on this thread?!

Breadsticksandhummus · 14/08/2018 17:18

I'd rather not mention the name Shirley but it's pretty obvious if you rtft.

Mothertoofive · 14/08/2018 17:19

And just to add to this ur constant justifying your self with she says this she says that is something from school!!!! Maybe she's said things maybe she never does that mean everyone should lose all common decency and respect for one an other does other people's behaviour then make it fare game to become a gang of witches

ItsColdNow · 14/08/2018 17:19

@theotherpamayres if you follow some new accounts it will change! I started following David Furnish the other day (random I know) and my feed changed over night and was full of half naked men working out! Not generally my thing but a change from liberty fabrics and bonnets 🤣

No one is bullying on this thread and seeing as the last one was deleted it can't be proved that there was one person making nasty comments.

It's annoying that all of MN gets lumped into being labelled a bunch of bitches when that's not the case.

MN has helped me through miscarriages, sleepless nights with a newborn, severe anxiety, bereavement and more. I love that it's anonymous, it helps when talking about difficult stuff.

LucilleBluth · 14/08/2018 17:21

I follow bands mainly, it's wonderful for stalking your favourite musicians. I would rather eat my own arm than follow a mum instagrammer or whatever they're called. I have three DCs of my own, I don't need to see other people's brats.

ItsColdNow · 14/08/2018 17:21

@mothertofive are you on the right thread?

Breadsticksandhummus · 14/08/2018 17:21

Mothertoofive

Please read the thread and point out anything insulting or bullying, so that I can report it to MNHQ.

fruitshot · 14/08/2018 17:22

Personally, it feels like any thread that mentions IG are on some type of radar to others, who literally only come on to stir up the pot and cause controversy, negatively, for mumsnet, and also pain and upset for Cash currently.

Let's be honest, reading vitriol, no matter how intense or not, is never nice and it's not ok. Even if it's rehashing previous threads and isn't 'new' it's still totally uncalled for.

This thread was innocent, I came on to suggest some lovely houseplant feeds, and look how it's spiralled?

Breadsticksandhummus · 14/08/2018 17:22

The thing is that posts like savannah's are picked up as representative of the whole of this thread. They aren't.

boredyboredy · 14/08/2018 17:23

I really hope that people who are reading on coming over from Instagram will actually RTFT. And MN I hope you dont pander to anyone one wanting this shut down as believe it or not instagram is actually larger than on subsection of accounts (aka the instamums).

I personally am finding that Intstagram is lacking and think it is in a death spiral with it not being what it used to be and wanted to know whether I was BU - but it seems that a lot of people still love the platform for various reasons which is interesting.

And I am hugely grateful for Esther now in my life Grin

@fruitshot - I am all ears! Hit me up with some inspiration....

You are right, it appears that instagram is the voldemort of mumsnet - as soon as it gets mentioned the threat is suddenly full of vile bitches.

Breadsticksandhummus · 14/08/2018 17:24

I like cigarettesandcalpol and blackandbeech.
