To think that instagram has jumped the shark?

boredyboredy · 14/08/2018 15:33

I used to really love instagram it as a place to get inspiration, eduction or a point in the right direction to go do some research myself on various topics, but am getting bored of it.

The influencer wars (with some clearly playing the game more than others Hmm ), the woke activists who are beginning to believe their own hype (their content becoming about them and how good they are), even the naice art and design accounts that I predominately follow are beginning to be a little lacking.

AIBU to think that insta is in a death spiral? If so (because clearly I have forgotten life before it) where do people find informative and / or creative inspiration outside of it these days. Blogs seem to have died, and facebook is a non starter!

NC because well I am bored!

Oh!! I adore absolutely.fabulucy

She lives in a massive house, has four boys, a shedload of tattoos and swears a lot. One of her kids middle names is Unicorn and another has either Santa or Father Christmas. She is mad as a box of frogs, loves festivals, rainbows and sparkles and can't help but brighten up your feed. She also has alpacas, which is always a winner in my book. She recently posted photos of both her weddings (to the same man, four years apart, no they didn't split up). You will not regret losing yourself in the Mad Hatter's Acid Trip.

MistressOfTheGarter · 14/08/2018 20:35

Yay Thomas I already follow geninne Friend!

PinaColadaa · 14/08/2018 20:37

I loooove @emiozmen (she's so cool and her kids are dead cute, also fit husband and good fashion/interiors stuff) and also @sammijefcoate for alternative but very stylish fashion/beauty.

KarrisWhiteOak · 14/08/2018 20:39

Another vote for Juniper the fox too.

Comedyusername · 14/08/2018 20:39

Ever so slightly confused by all the deletions but thanks for all the recommendations. I hope this thread doesn't disappear before I've checked them out!

highheelsandbobblehats · 14/08/2018 20:40

And anyone who wants to follow other mums with the constant #ad or glitzy parties in Soho, have a look at thenorthernmob. She is as down to earth as they come.

highheelsandbobblehats · 14/08/2018 20:41

WITHOUT the constant #ad and glitzy parties.

Breadsticksandhummus · 14/08/2018 20:42

Ever so slightly confused by all the deletions

I think we all are and MNHQ don't seem to want to explain.

SpiritedFarAway · 14/08/2018 20:42

I like sammijefcote @PinaColadaa but don't feel she's transparent re products she promotes that she gets money for.
It was really interesting on the last thread (which is a shame it was deleted) I learned that if there is a swipe up link on ig stories and it goes through certain websites then that person who linked basically gets payment for people buying through them.

If that makes sense? I bought a lip balm she recommended then felt like a bit of a mug when I read the thread and realised she was getting paid for recommending things. I'm sure she likes and uses them but there was no transparency?

MistressOfTheGarter · 14/08/2018 20:44

Also I have GOT to reccommend #DumpedWifesRevenge. She is brilliant! She is Australian. Her husband dumped her for a younger woman and she has been living it up ever since. She told herself she was going to thrive and she has!. Wacky sense of humour, been in Vogue, on television. She is just out there, I recommend if you've been through anything similar and need a pickmeup!

buttybuttybutthole · 14/08/2018 20:45

I think sweeping generalisations about a group of people made publicly is bullying and can sometimes therefore be hypocritical. Every day the human race disappoints me and social media had a lot to answer for when it comes to sanctimonious bullying. And nastiness.

Just generalising, slightly off topic. Don't like Instagram, it all seems like advertising and self promotion from those with an agenda.

PinaColadaa · 14/08/2018 20:45

Spirited yes I do agree with that actually. I'm pretty well versed on stuff like that but I can definitely see how it wouldn't be obvious to other people. I've followed her for years, way before she had so many followers, so I have a bit of a soft spot for her Grin

ShirleyPhallus · 14/08/2018 20:46

I’ve started a thread in site stuff on the deletions - here if anyone wants to follow / join

Love holly bell on Insta even tho she's a bit quiet atm as she's going through a divorce. Very down to earth funny and real. Also really love 40plysnotgivingup. Really genuine and love seeing her clothes on. She's lovely. I've also unfollowed all the awful instamums selling the same stuff, wearing their clique approved t shirts, attending the same events, eating the same cereal, flogging their kids half to death.

There's some great accounts but you've got to unfollow the crap and really hunt for the gems. Lorraine Pascale is great too, full of interesting posts and lots of mental health discussions.

BMOT · 14/08/2018 20:52

Personally I love Insta and it certainly isn't heading into a death spiral for me, though my bank balance would certainly be better off if it disappeared !! I'm such a sucker for independent jewellery, handbags and other trinkets that I totally do not need!
Some of my favourites are
Susie Verill and her lovely husband Greg
Doesmybumlookbigat40 (love her stories and fashion sense)
INPO (running inspo and fellow gin lover)
lovely.lydia (makes the most amazing block printed cushions and bags)
mrshorsy ( a new one to me and very un influencer but I just like her pictures of normal life)
kellymarshall26 (My Crossfit inspiration)

KarrisWhiteOak · 14/08/2018 20:53

Sienna.and.I
Allthatshe

And my love of macro photography
Dennistrap, poppyfox1111, seblester for beautiful writing

SpiritedFarAway · 14/08/2018 20:55

@PinaColadaa I've followed her for quite a few years so I think I felt like I should have known really?! It just wasn't as obvious as I thought it would be.
I'm still following her though as she is gorgeous and effortlessly stylish, but also very likeable 😊 (despite the lack of #ad!)

highheelsandbobblehats · 14/08/2018 20:56

BMOT. Have a look at discoverTK
