To think that instagram has jumped the shark?

I used to really love instagram it as a place to get inspiration, eduction or a point in the right direction to go do some research myself on various topics, but am getting bored of it.

The influencer wars (with some clearly playing the game more than others Hmm ), the woke activists who are beginning to believe their own hype (their content becoming about them and how good they are), even the naice art and design accounts that I predominately follow are beginning to be a little lacking.

AIBU to think that insta is in a death spiral? If so (because clearly I have forgotten life before it) where do people find informative and / or creative inspiration outside of it these days. Blogs seem to have died, and facebook is a non starter!

NC because well I am bored!

@goforthandmultply - thanks! I hadn’t heard of either of those platforms. Really helpful

I love the following:

Hollybellmummy (from bake off keeps it real)
Mother pukka
Fullerfigure
Griefcast

I've unfollowed loads in the last year due to ads and begging for likes, including fatfunnyone, ivycoco, lilandlife, life through ems eyes, justalittlebuild, weeslice, mamasscrapbook, alicejt.... in fact most of the low end Insta mums. Just found them being sneaky about ads and getting riled if they were called out about shitty behaviour and stealth boasting. Awful awful accounts with dull contrived never ending ads hidden in stories.

I can give a few craft instagram profiles

Beetleatbay does crochet and sometimes posts pictures of dogs

Sirithre for cross stitch

Deathbycanon does some gorgeous 3D renders that look almost real

And for a bit of variety

Yoshimitsupanda does makeup pictures which I really like looking at

Snoopychildminder · 14/08/2018 19:30

If anyone has any interest in turquoise vintage jewellery... @red_rabbit are amazing!!
As are @lowryfamilycollection

I also follow @tokyofashion

I realise there is a theme appearing...studio ghibli, Tokyo fashion, Grin can anyone else tell I love japan 🇯🇵

HereBeFuckery · 14/08/2018 19:30

I overheard was subjected to two women discussing which vitamins to photograph and 'add to my Insta story' in the chemist today.
Apparently you can't 'have too many stories' Hmm
I beg to disagree.

MistressOfTheGarter · 14/08/2018 19:31

Another good one is katiemcdonnell female freerunner!

Snoopychildminder · 14/08/2018 19:31

...just for the record I don’t personally dress like any of the people on @tokyofashion but I love looking at the pictures Smile

boredyboredy · 14/08/2018 19:32

@runruddersrun - without wanting to derail my thread, you can do exactly the same on Instagram. Infact a lot of people who have been trolled on that platform have been done so via anon accounts. I know I , before I made my profile private due to it, received unwanted sexy messages from anon accounts.

Now back to the topic...

I read IG like a magazine. I use it to find new places when I’m visiting new or old haunts, to find new cafes and beaches, to connect with other people doing similar stuff to me. I find fashion inspiration, I follow random brands that I find entertaining or interesting. There’s literally millions of accounts a lot of whom are talented at photography or writing - there’s no need to limit who you follow to people who you don’t like!

Hangingaroundtheportal · 14/08/2018 19:37

I have to say I don't really get Instagram stories. Surely just put it on your feed? It just seems to be for putting every single mundane thought, who is interested in that? Plus the whole walking along the street chatting into your phone is just cringe!

catinboots9 · 14/08/2018 19:38

You all need to follow @tunameltsmyheart

So many people share interesting behind the scenes stuff. Like the Wimbledon groundskeeper account which I think has gone now but that was fascinating (if you like tennis, granted).

Likewise, following # can be a nice way of finding new inspiration.

Snoopychildminder · 14/08/2018 19:41

Yes that’s what I think hangingaroundtheportal So so cringeworthy. BlushGrin I always wander how they can walk and talk, I’m surprised I’ve not seen someone walk into a lamp post or something haha

T00muchpink · 14/08/2018 19:41

I unfollowed Mamasscrapbook too, it seemed that as soon as she informed her husband that she was on Insta she started talking about having to make money off something she was spending so much time on. May be my imagination but it annoyed me.

I keep my follows really small. I enjoy insta but a lot of it does seem to just want to make you feel rubbish.

runruddersrun · 14/08/2018 19:46

I’m not sure why my comment was deleted. I didn’t personally attack anyone. Another example of mumsnet taking ‘the moral high ground’

Allthegoodusernamesaregonesad · 14/08/2018 19:48

@boredyboredy
Twisteddoodles is another great account to follow. She has twins and is so funny when she talks about them. She does really funny doodles on her page.

Snoopychildminder · 14/08/2018 19:49

Anyone know of any good running Instagram pages? I need to find my running mojo quick!
