My in laws are tracking us

So the in laws have discovered the find a friend feature on iPhone and have set it up so they can track DH wherever he goes. God knows why he has accepted it.

We were on holiday last week and DH fired them a text to let them know we were home safely. Their response was “yeah we know”.

So AIBU to think this is odd??

I don’t think I’d be happy with that. I don’t go anywhere that I wouldn’t be happy with people knowing, but I still wouldn’t want my in-laws being able to check where me and DH are all the time. Isn’t he bothered by it?

Meh wouldn’t bother me, if that’s what they want to do it’s their time they are wasting.

Just look as it as a family safety feature.

DH and I share our locations with each other for safety purposes.

If it was a sneaky tracking device on your car or something then I’d take issue, but your DH allowed them access and there’s an option to boot them off if they abuse it.

Do they think you’re going to murder him?! Ask him to disconnect the tracking.

I agree, it’s a bit creepy. They could have just replied “thanks for letting us know”.

I was chatting to an old friend the other day and mentioned we’d been to a big tourist attraction and he said “yeah, I saw you’d been there on Facebook” and that kind of stopped the conversation, whereas if I see someone’s bee somewhere on social media but they start telling me about it I just act as though I haven’t already seen it on Facebook, otherwise we might as well all stop talking to each other and just stare at our phones instead.

It wouldn't bother me. Maybe they just enjoy playing with their gadgets. We didn't have them growing up or even in early adulthood so it's all a bit of a novelty when you first discover a new 'thing'
We were trying to pick my daughter up in Manchester but had mistaken where exactly she meant. I'd no idea she could just share her location with me on my phone. I didn't know it did that!

If location is on but not shared does that mean I can't be tracked ? I don't want people I have in my contacts being able to just track me or doesn't it work like that sorry useless with phones etc and like my privacy

It will be one of those novelty items they soon tire off, I imagine.

I have friend, who Facebook checks in to every coffee shop, every restaurant etc. Photographing evey coffee, dish and drink It's very tideous. Another friend in our group has started checking in to ordinary things like 'X is checking in to Quick Fit Fitters' or 'X is checking into B&Q, Asda and Services on M25'. My favourite photo was of an Asda basics bottle of fizzy water and a jiff lemon with a caption 'why not'

Get you DH to have some fun. 'I'm going to the toilet can you tell?' etc

For the posters who have it on so they can track/be tracked 'for safety', are you in witness protection, being stalked by someone violent or do you live in a ghetto?!

If not, why on earth do you need this 'safety measure'?

I wouldn't have accepted, but I don't think it's a given that it's some kind of controlling, creepy action on their part, unless they have a history of being overly involved in his life since he became an adult. They've probably just discovered it, thought it sounded sort of neat, novel and potentially useful in an emergency. Now they see his little icon on their map and it's a bit of fun. They'll be bored of it shortly and potentially realise it's a bit intrusive in time, when they see him checking out Victoria Secrets before your birthday or something.

How does your DH feel about it?

I wouldn't mind if they asked us first, however I do have location switched off, so probably would not be trackable.

I doubt they were tracking you constantly. They probably just checked where you were around the time you were due back. I find it a really useful feature especially for timing dinner of an evening. I wouldn’t want to accept requests other than close family but for me and my husband it’s super useful. In the wrong hands it could be a bit creepy.
