Ok it looks good on tv but they must have to do re takes and it's probably a really long evening.

Also no-one EVER looks at the camera - I'm sure they're told not to but I'd be soooooooo tempted to give the odd sarcastic look at the audience! Lol.

Anyone have any behind the scenes secrets?

When it first started it was really good. Now it seems far too scripted.

Like:

“I’m having a dinner party to I’ll leave my under the bed restraints and whips out for my guests to bring up at dinner” Hmm.

GreatRailwayMaps · 31/07/2018 22:00

They deliberately choose what stuff they're going find in the other guests bedrooms.

Nothisispatrick · 31/07/2018 22:04

I did read somewhere that the nights often finish really late, like pudding is being served at 1am and cabs home at 3am.

I liked the older ones where they showed more of the cooking.

Banana8080 · 31/07/2018 22:08

My husband went on it, he planned to made ice cream but camera crew unplugged freezer so he had to serve room temperature ice cream soup - they edited it and made him out to be a div who didn’t know ice cream needed serving. He came last....but he thoroughly enjoyed it.

It’s an exhausting week mind, out every night.

SillyMoomin · 31/07/2018 22:14

That’s shocking banana??, you’d have lost not only the ice cream but hundreds of pounds worth of everyday family food in the freezer? I hope you complained loudly!

OohOohMrPeevly · 31/07/2018 22:25

I love this thread as I'm a big CDWM fan and I still watch the best bits on youtube when I'm bored. I know a couple of people who've been on and I know there's only one taxi with score cards which just takes them round the block and they have to wait for each other to finish in it so they all get home really late.

Zintox · 31/07/2018 22:29

There’s some “secrets” in this article www.henleyherald.com/2018/07/27/councillor-come-dine-with-me-a-french-night-to-forget/

Jaxhog · 31/07/2018 22:34

It's all fake! A friend of mine has been on it, and tells me it's all a complete set up.

Lifeofa · 31/07/2018 22:35

A few years ago a mumsnetter posted her experience of it as she went along, it sounded exhausting there is only one taxi and everyone else has to sit and wait whilst all the takes are done.

ShirleyPhallus · 31/07/2018 22:36

My friend is a producer on it and it’s all set up

  • they get the biggest idiots who want to be famous but have no cooking skills
  • they film it night after night
  • they stop loads throughout the evening - ie preliminary interviews, starter served then take each individual off to interview etc
  • it starts at 5-6pm and doesn’t finish until about 3am every morning
  • all the foreign words and fancy foods are deliberately placed to confuse people
Whatsinaname100 · 31/07/2018 22:37

Yep a friend of a work colleague was on it.

She said they told her what to say about the other contestants and that when she was cooking she got drunk as she was so nervous. Well she didnt complete the cooking in time as she was half cut so the camera crew cooked the rest!!

ShirleyPhallus · 31/07/2018 22:41

Oooooh I remember a contestant who was so drunk the crew and other contestants had to cook for her, wonder if it was the same...

AdoraBell · 31/07/2018 22:43

banana did you have to stay elsewhere for the filming?

GabsAlot · 31/07/2018 22:44

its so fake lately the nest omnes were at the beginning when they wer4e allow3ed to say what they wanted

Smallhorse · 31/07/2018 22:44

It’s very easy to get on to. I know several people who have

GabsAlot · 31/07/2018 22:44

best ones*

AfterSchoolWorry · 31/07/2018 22:48

ShirleyPhallus

That lady is actually dead now, heard somewhere. She was using an old el Paso taco kit wasn't she?

Cuppaand2biscuits · 31/07/2018 22:49

My friend went on it, she said the crew passed them notes at the dinner table telling them what to say or how to behave.
And when it was her turn to film her family had to be out of the house for the entire day and nights filming to ensure nothing disturbed the filming.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 31/07/2018 22:53

My friend was on it, they try to get people to be obnoxious to get better telly & they do loads of takes so yes, pretty fake.

bluetrampolines · 31/07/2018 22:59

Did anyone see the guy who cooked steak and chips in his parents windmill. That looked awesome.

Poptart4 · 31/07/2018 23:06

Its a tv show so of course they have to make it entertaining. Purposely picking clueless people who cant cook or people they know are going to clash is part of making an entertaining show.

Are they really telling people what to say or giving them topics to talk about?? These are 2 very different things. Again giving people provocative subjects to talk about is all part of causing drama. But i would never let anyone put words in my mouth and if you do then you cant complain afterwards if they made you look a certain way. You chose to go along with it after all.

I love ve CDWM but with all reality shows alot if production goes into it.

brizzledrizzle · 31/07/2018 23:08

but camera crew unplugged freezer so he had to serve room temperature ice cream soup

On purpose? Shock or were they just thick?

Shockers · 31/07/2018 23:13

It isn’t half as entertaining as it used to be. It’s quite obviously set up now.

Bluelonerose · 31/07/2018 23:18

I remember that lady who took herself off to bed. Sad to hear she died Sad

Tbh I only watch come dine with me for the narrator he is hilarious Grin
