Ok it looks good on tv but they must have to do re takes and it's probably a really long evening.

Also no-one EVER looks at the camera - I'm sure they're told not to but I'd be soooooooo tempted to give the odd sarcastic look at the audience! Lol.

Anyone have any behind the scenes secrets?

noeffing Except he just narrates what the writers tell him to! He's not coming up with these lines himself

HappenstanceMarmite · 01/08/2018 20:21

I loved the one where the chap accused a woman of being a “lying Mary”.

Pancakeflipper · 01/08/2018 20:23

I think there was a really early episode (perhaps pre-Vera the dinner lady from Leeds) where it was all female. All gorgeous looking and some very wealthy with big houses. One of them didn't have the flashy lifestyle and the money would make a huge difference to her. The women didn't get catty, they had an absolute blast and during the week seemed to become good friends and voted the one without the flashy lifestyle to win.
Tears were shed. It was lovely.

Destinysdaughter · 01/08/2018 20:29

I knew a bloke who was approached by the producers to go on it. He said they’d asked him what were the type of pp he’d least like to spend an evening with. He said, a feminist, a ‘career woman ‘ and a gay man. Of course that’s who he ended up with. Ironically, they all got on like a house on fire and he won! Also apparently one of the contestants had a massive strop when he won and stormed out, so they had to calm her down and refilm it! 😀

DeadBod · 01/08/2018 20:46

pancake that was the one where the lady without the flashy lifestyle didn't have an evening dress to wear on the last night so she put on her wedding dress. I liked that set of episodes.

longwayoff · 01/08/2018 20:52

I remember that, Brighton ladies I think. Proper good humoured, good fun women. It was very uplifting.

whoami24601 · 01/08/2018 20:58

Was there an episode where one of the contestants hired someone to be the 'plates'? They all had to eat their dinner (might have been sushi...) straight off his hairy chest. Or did I dream that one...?

TheToldYouSoDance · 01/08/2018 21:06

Love CDWM. Watched it back to back when DS was feeding as a baby. Little bit of trivia; if anyone is familiar with Sabrina Ghayour of Persiana cookery book fame, and all round lovely lady; well, she was on CDWM years ago before her career took off. I’m sure she won too.

Pippa, Vera et al was a brilliant week. The poor boy she fancied was celiac so he couldn’t eat the pastry topping on her pie, but then she’d also put dumplings in the filling! She was a real pretentious cow.

Katedotness1963 · 01/08/2018 21:13

I loved Vera! Didn't her dog get under the table and start farting? The raspberry coulis, and was it crushed malteasers? And the blue drink that looked like mouthwash. I think she got one of the lowest marks I ever saw on it.

And the woman who marked everyone with a 1 or 2 and was made to re-mark on the last day.

Pancakeflipper · 01/08/2018 21:24

@DeadBod - that's it !!!! I forgot the wedding dress bit.

longwayoff · 01/08/2018 21:25

And I loved Sabrina who appeared with a reasonable guy and two entitled sneerers, 1 male and 1female, neither of whom could cook but had a nice line in sneering at Sabrina. Until she fed them.

TheToldYouSoDance · 01/08/2018 21:32

Just googled. I think London’s Isabelle Goldstein was the one made to re-mark. Season 3 I think.
I really need a binge BlushGrin

PaulRuddislush · 01/08/2018 21:35

Goldstein was horrible. The winner on that show was a former That's Life presenter, I think he's dead now.

namechangefriday · 01/08/2018 21:36

Spencer who died of pancreatic cancer wanted the winnings to pay toward his sisters mortgage as she couldn’t work as she had lymphoma.
She was very much alive but it so sad

howardmoonseyebrow · 01/08/2018 21:44

I worked in the same building as someone who was a contestant a few years ago. She came across on screen as annoying as she was in real life & threw her toys out of the park when an older male contestant thought he was paying her a compliment. She took it completely the wrong way & had a real huff!

howardmoonseyebrow · 01/08/2018 21:45

*pram

Hogtini · 01/08/2018 21:49

Aww yeah poor Spencer. I think it was only a month after the episode that he died. So very sad.

Katedotness1963 · 01/08/2018 21:53

Was it CDWM that had a hairdresser on who insulted everyone and ended up getting death threats?

Haint · 01/08/2018 21:56

I know one of the gogglebox lot. The idea that a fly on the wall camera is listening in as they settle down for an evenings viewing and chit chat is a cosy facade but I guess we all know that really.

longwayoff · 01/08/2018 22:31

HaInt, but, the dogs . . . How do they manage the Malone pack of giant dogs? Surely they're in home?

longwayoff · 01/08/2018 22:40

Paul, do u mean Bill Buckley? Hes got a programme on radio Berkshire

UnapologeticallyUnhinged · 01/08/2018 23:07

I applied to be on the show years ago but was living in an open plan duplex apartment at the time. I told them I couldn't cook for toffee and planned on 'cutting corners' but got through anyway. The producers came to see my flat and asked if I could use someone else's house as there was nowhere separate for the contestants to go to talk about me. I said no, so went no further. Until I was approached months later by the same producers about a programme they were making about 'people sitting around watching telly' (you guessed it!) which I declined. I was also approached for First Dates! Even though I believe they are different production companies they keep your details and pass them around (pre-GDPR!) hence why I think you see a lot of the same people on these reality shows, like how Steph and Dom were on FIAB first etc.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 01/08/2018 23:09

@PancakeFlipper- the Brighton lot. That was a lovely week and included random sexy men serving puddings and cocktails. But it was all giggly & fun, like a party you'd want to be at. And the winner was so sweet

Hogtini · 01/08/2018 23:27

Yes Kate! Shock His name was Marcello

Haint · 01/08/2018 23:46

Oh yes they are in their home but it’s not like Wednesday 7pm here we are watching eastenders. And here we are on Friday at 10pm with the kids watching whateversonthattimeofnight. They do long days of condensed watching and filming. We (the viewer) don’t happen to catch them unawares commenting on such and such as it happens
