Ok it looks good on tv but they must have to do re takes and it's probably a really long evening.

Also no-one EVER looks at the camera - I'm sure they're told not to but I'd be soooooooo tempted to give the odd sarcastic look at the audience! Lol.

Anyone have any behind the scenes secrets?

My friend was on it. Its very strict - the crew made her re-paper her hallway and paint her kitchen wall to benefit thr lighting from the camera. Its not scripted as such but theyre given prompts to avoid it being "dull"

SneakyGremlins · 01/08/2018 14:42

I think he got a point knocked off for his dessert.

Except now Channel 4 have fucked up catch up I can't 😭

SneakyGremlins · 01/08/2018 14:42

Lost They made her WHAT

JustDanceAddict · 01/08/2018 14:44

I was going to say the snake one too is one that sticks in my mind ‘oh he only poos once a year...’ oops! My dh loved that one!!
Agree the old ones were better. Have no insider info but I do know someone who was on Dinner Date a while ago. Also heavily set up etc.,

EdgeOf17 · 01/08/2018 14:48

iklboo i think i know your friend (is it K&D?), she is a friend of a colleague of mine and i was chatting to her the week her DH was on TV. She well and truly put me off ever applying! She said they made him out to be a right dick Hmm

LostNAlone · 01/08/2018 14:49

Yeah sneakygremlins they made her redecorate so it would look better on camera..

delphguelph · 01/08/2018 14:50

Do you get paid for being on it?

One of my favourites was with Tracey from Stoke-on-Trent, she came across as such a snob and really upset a dark-haired lad on it. I just googled her trying to find the episode but found an article where Jane Horrocks said she took inspiration from her for a character! Article

vandrew4 · 01/08/2018 15:09

hate it when " an older lady" has big veiny boobs out. cringe
does that happen a lot on CDWM?

VanillaSugar · 01/08/2018 15:10

Oh god, the snake poo 🤮

Did someone once offer up a roadkill menu or am I imagining it?

SneakyGremlins · 01/08/2018 15:12

They did, Vanilla. He told them as they sat down I think.
vandrew Yes! Usually a cougar type who lusts after the young student types.

Loonoon · 01/08/2018 15:14

My favourite one was an early one when the very pretentious, self styled ‘Princess Pippa’ made the dinner lady Vera stand out in the street because she had arrived 10 minutes early. In the final episode the same Princess Pippa terrified the much younger posh boy contestant by asking him on a date. And Vera made a fruit coulis by watering down strawberry jam.

iklboo · 01/08/2018 15:15

@EdgeOf17 - yes that's the one. He's apparently nothing like they made him out to be (I know her better than him). She wasn't very happy.

Lovemusic33 · 01/08/2018 15:24

I’m a big fan of come dine with me, not for the cooking bit but for the commentary. Banana I think remember the episode with your dh.

SneakyGremlins · 01/08/2018 15:26

I don't get how people dislike the commentary!

Shockers · 01/08/2018 15:32

I know a chap who was on the couples one in the North East. He referenced a film quote which made him appear really rude and they left it in, but without the subsequent explanation.

eyycarumba · 01/08/2018 15:49

@ShirleyPhallus she was an alcoholic, as another PP said, she's actually dead now Sad it would have been hilarious if it wasn't so sad behind the scenes.

Family friend won it, all fake as everyone else has pointed out. My favourite ever moment will always be that old git who shouted at the woman who won to get out of his house

Frosty6611 · 01/08/2018 16:04

Yes the woman who got drunk and fell asleep was Dawn Barry and she committed suicide as she had mental health issues. Really sad.

EdgeOf17 · 01/08/2018 16:42

Yep @iklboo she was ever so pissed off when I spoke to her (I saw her on the Friday night after it had been aired)

Some friends of mine won one of the couple's episodes. It was one of the few where they all got on really well and stayed mates afterwards. My friend said that the producers were really trying to whip up some controversy but none of them were having any of it Grin she had a great time but said it was all really staged as you would expect

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 01/08/2018 16:55

@Loonoon I LOVE that episode! Vera with her squirty squirt cream & blue dragon sauce, monstrous Pippa with her tiara and her rose petals and her nude drawing, as she vamped that sweet young man, the sweet posh young guy looking terrified of Pippa and that college lecturer with the rank comedy curries!

Love early CDWM but I've switched to FIB now - such venom. I especially enjoyed the over earnest MENSA couple in episode 1, who were smug & precious, and their shock upon being told that their "inclusive" welcome to the octogenarian ex army major, and their presumption of his decrepit-ness had been really offensive. They couldn't understand how on earth they'd offended him by mentioning his hearing aids and offering him an aide in front of everyone, and basically telling him they thought he was too infirm to manage the stairs and putting him in a disabled room! They were even more pissed off when his sweet homespun affair won ahead of their bland, soulless dump as he was local competition!

WburgWanderer · 01/08/2018 17:08

I was a recent contestant (w/in the last 4 months). AMA! Smile

SneakyGremlins · 01/08/2018 17:09

Did you have to make food you knew someone hated?

WburgWanderer · 01/08/2018 17:11

@SneakyGremlins - no, definitely not! You submit your menu and they let you know if another contestant has an allergy or intolerance later and you have a bit of time to modify, if necessary.

VanillaSugar · 01/08/2018 17:19

One lady got her local restaurant to bring her food and they delivered it through her kitchen window. She plated it up on the floor Shock. And then she won ShockShockShock
