Come dine with me secrets

Ok it looks good on tv but they must have to do re takes and it's probably a really long evening.

Also no-one EVER looks at the camera - I'm sure they're told not to but I'd be soooooooo tempted to give the odd sarcastic look at the audience! Lol.

Anyone have any behind the scenes secrets?

I love CDWM!! Wouldn't want to be on it though from the sounds of it!

DryAsThingysFootwear · 01/08/2018 18:04

I vaguely remember one where a man liked to have mayonnaise with everything. One contestant told him he wouldn't be having mayo with his dinner at her house so he smuggled his own in. She caught him and went nuts, possibly asked him to leave. Anyone remember that One?

I remember one episode when two contestants seemed to be falling in love? I think he was Scottish and she was Polish and it may have been based in Scotland? Anyway, they had real chemistry and were flirting outrageously and then she kissed him for a dare. I always wondered what happened to them, if they got married and lived happily ever after?

krustykittens · 01/08/2018 18:28

I did google it but I can't find them!

LostInShoebiz · 01/08/2018 18:32

I remember the restaurant order lady. Got to admire that chutzpah.

GabsAlot · 01/08/2018 18:43

did they tell you to say certain things to each other like u dont like their food?

serbska · 01/08/2018 18:44

@VanillaSugar she was amazing. She said “it’s come dine with me, not come cook with me” and she did tell them all in the end I think because she felt bad?

OliviaStabler · 01/08/2018 18:46

I remember one episode where the guy was so tight he refused to serve any alcohol on his evening but was happy to quaff his way through everyone else's on the other nights. He would have received a zero from me!

glamglittergirl · 01/08/2018 18:52

Yes my husband's cousin and his wife went on it. They said about the long hours, the cold food, the editing and telling them what to say and being presented in a 'certain' role.

But having said that, they seemed to enjoy the experience!

WburgWanderer · 01/08/2018 19:14

@GabsAlot - they didn’t tell me to say certain things, exactly. You go through a fairly extensive interview process and have to fill out some questionnaires about yourself, which I guess gives them a starting point in case of lags in the conversation. They then sort of steer the conversation if something interesting or funny comes out in the course of the evening, if you see what I mean.

Maybe it varies by crew, but the crew that I worked with were very fair and didn’t try to stir the pot at all; they never encouraged me or anybody in the group to slag off somebody else’s food. I’m pretty surprised to read that others had that experience!

ShirleyPhallus · 01/08/2018 19:19

WburgWanderer did you feel like you were painted fairly?

WburgWanderer · 01/08/2018 19:20

@ShirleyPhallus - that remains to be seen, the episode hasn’t aired yet! Grin

GabsAlot · 01/08/2018 19:22

thanks wburg sounds interesting you'll have to let us kn ow when it airs to see how theyve edited it

SneakyGremlins · 01/08/2018 19:25

Tell us when it airs! You don't have to tell us which diner you are obvs!

LapinR0se · 01/08/2018 19:35

I remember one of them where an absolutely lovely man won and he wanted to give the £1000 to a cancer charity as his brother had recently died of cancer.
Then during the credits they said the episode was dedicated to him as he had been diagnosed with cancer shortly after filming and died very quickly. Sad

jemmysmum · 01/08/2018 19:46

Can anyone remember the one with the woman who said that Alan Sugar was coming to dinner and the doorbell rang and it was a fucking talking teddy bear. I really cringed at that!

EustaciaPieface · 01/08/2018 19:49

Another fan of Dave Lamb, he’s hilarious! There’s no way it would still be going if he wasn’t part of it. But like others, I find myself watching Four in Bed more often these days.

DaisysStew · 01/08/2018 19:50

LapinR0se That episode was so sad Sad I think the guys name was Spencer and he didn’t actually win but was so lovely that the winner gave half the cash to his charity (I think it was the same one anyway).

I really liked the one with the highest score aswell, they all seemed like top people (even the Hyacinthesque lady who knocked a point off for having a chip in the bread bowl). I’m sure he quit his job to be a chef after.

OohOohMrPeevly · 01/08/2018 19:53

Lapinrose I remember him - he was called Spencer I think - very very sad.

I remember too that awful Tracy woman from Stoke on Trent so will be interesting to read that article about the character being based on her.

So many memorable episodes and moments but here is one of the funniest bits that other people have mentioned:-

OohOohMrPeevly · 01/08/2018 20:04

Jemmysmum - I remember the Alan Sugar teddy bear - weird as hell.

noeffingidea · 01/08/2018 20:06

I don't get how people dislike the commentary!
Well he started off being funny in a natural organic kind of way, and then he obviously got some positive feedback about how funny he was and how he was the real star of the show, so he decided to ramp it up and became contrived and fake in the process.
Thats how.
That really happens in all reality TV shows as far as I'm concerned. They start off being interesting and entertaining, even informative, then by the 2nd series the producers start to get feedback so they start to emphasise certain aspects and manipulating the cast/contestants . Some people (presumably yourself for one) find that more entertaining, and some of us don't.

BitchQueen90 · 01/08/2018 20:06

Wasn't there a recent one where one of the blokes got removed from the show on the second to last night? There had been an argument about which Take That member had the most talent of all things and the next day he had been removed from the competition! I read somewhere that it was because it got a bit heated after the cameras stopped rolling and violence was threatened but that could just be made up of course.

StubbleTurnips · 01/08/2018 20:07

My memory might not serve me well but I'm sure an early episode involves a cat eating someone's starter.... so grim.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 01/08/2018 20:13

I know three people who have been on it. One told me that it had been edited to make her look like a bitch.... managed to zip my mouth before saying she came across exactly as I know her. Objectively, her food was the best but am sure her obnoxiousness lost her marks.
