My milkman just woke me up

It's 1am and my milkman just woke me up. Now I can't sleep as all I can think about is my milk warming up (and my husband hasn't put the bin out yet at they come at 7am).

Aibu to make my husband get up and sort now?

Should I complain to the milkman?

For full disclosure; Children currently sleeping until 8am due to heat. I'm on mat leave. Husband doesn't set an alarm he relies on me. Toddler bedroom is next to the bin path. Husband awake looking at phone (probably Mumsnet)

Kick his ass out of bed to move bins... Carry them, put milk in fridge and bring u up a cuppa tea with the fresh milk!

MarcieBlue · 25/07/2018 01:18

Definitely complain. What's he doing at 1am!!!

Also tell your husband to wake himself up. Why do you wake him? Stop worrying about the bins if it's his job. (Easier said than done)

I'd be slightly annoyed too! Surely milk can't last long in this weather?

milkmilk · 25/07/2018 01:24

Husband says he always comes at 1am! Mmmm warm milk on cereal. I don't drink it other than in tea.

My milkman used to leave milk at 12am which is why we stopped having it delivered

milkmilk · 25/07/2018 01:25

Kids historically waking at 6am means we haven't needed an alarm in 3 years. I'm naturally an early riser so have always got up first, but I'm also sleeping in due to the heat..

Grin I so thought this was going to be a different kind of 'Milkman' post. My Bad

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/07/2018 01:49

You have a milkman?!
Good lord!
Please tell me you actually have bottles of milk left on your doorstep!
That is so bizarre!

milkmilk · 25/07/2018 01:50

Yep real milk in real glass bottles.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 25/07/2018 01:52

We stopped our milk delivery because of this. It was a shame - we wanted to support the local dairy, but the milk was hideous in the morning during the summer!

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/07/2018 01:54

No!?
Is this a real thing?
Not trying to be funny but I thought that was totally a thing from at least 30 years ago!
It’s nice though. Making me feel very nostalgic.
That said, you cannot leave milk on your doorstep overnight in this heat.

AltheaorDonna · 25/07/2018 01:56

People still get milk delivered? I thought that all died out years ago. I used to help out on a milk round as a teenager. We used to start deliveries at 3 am. Milk really doesn’t curdle that quickly, just take it in as soon as you can. Some people used leave out insulated bags and cool packs if it was very hot, maybe try that if you are worried.

Charolais · 25/07/2018 01:56

Put a cooler with some ice in it. We do in hot weather.

delphguelph · 25/07/2018 01:57

Why is he delivering at this time?

ILikeSpringRolls · 25/07/2018 01:58

Lol Aintnothingbutaheartache where do you live?

We still get milk delivered in glass bottles too. Once emptied they go through the dishwasher and then left outside the front door for the milkman to take away again. It's a good, eco-friendly system!

Milkshakeminer · 25/07/2018 01:59

I get milk delivered, love opening the door to glass bottles on the step, my milkman doesn’t deliver that early/late though that seems very odd

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/07/2018 02:00

I’m still reeling about the fact that there are still milkmen delivering milk in glass bottles to people’s doorsteps!!
I want to live there!

milkmilk · 25/07/2018 02:01

Now I'm wondering if the milkman is worth staying up for WinkBlush

My parents had one of those things where you put the pointer to the number of bottles you wanted. I frequently put the pointer to the highest to see what would happen.........we had lots of milk😉

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/07/2018 02:05

ILikeSpringRolls in London, maybe that’s my problem

wellthismakesnosense · 25/07/2018 02:05

I had the same with my milkman and it took me a while to realise what was waking me up - at 3am rather than 1am. It would set the dog off going ballistic, waking the whole house up and pissing off the neighbours. Last week I lost my shit at being woken again and the company who deliver got a lengthy email cancelling the service just after 3am! I know I’ll regret it one day when we don’t have enough milk for tea but I don’t need to be paying £2.85 for 4 pints and the pleasure of being woken up!

wellthismakesnosense · 25/07/2018 02:08

Aintnothingbutaheartache It’s nationwide (if you’re also in the UK). Quite a big service now, have a google and you’ll find it.

They also do the glass bottles of orange juice if anyone remembers those?! Tried it but it wasn’t quite as I remembered it.

TotHappy · 25/07/2018 02:11

What company is this? I'm in Cornwall. I would LOVE milk delivered in glass bottles, even at 1am! Does it still have all the lovely cream in lumps at the top?

ILikeSpringRolls · 25/07/2018 02:16

Does it still have all the lovely cream in lumps at the top?

The full fat ones do yeah. Gross!
