My milkman just woke me up

It's 1am and my milkman just woke me up. Now I can't sleep as all I can think about is my milk warming up (and my husband hasn't put the bin out yet at they come at 7am).

Aibu to make my husband get up and sort now?

Should I complain to the milkman?

For full disclosure; Children currently sleeping until 8am due to heat. I'm on mat leave. Husband doesn't set an alarm he relies on me. Toddler bedroom is next to the bin path. Husband awake looking at phone (probably Mumsnet)

Trouble is anything left on my doorstep for more than 5 mins is gonna get nicked!
No joke, weekend papers? Get up after 9am, gone.
Actually it came in rather handy when we were doing some work in the house. Left an old stove on the pavement, 15 mins later (I kid you not) gone.
I reckon if I ordered milk to be left on my doorstep some thieving bastard would be enjoying a nice latte at my expense.

ilovesooty · 25/07/2018 02:17

My milkman actually lives next door.

Milkshakeminer · 25/07/2018 02:18

I use milk and more.
aintnothing are you ever tempted to leave more and more obscure items and time how long it takes?!

TotHappy · 25/07/2018 02:23

OMG milk and more do glass bottles round here now GrinGrinGrinGrin last time I checked they only delivered the usual shit plastic. Ordering 8 pints of gold top GrinGrinGrin

Fresh cream on your cereal is food for the gods

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/07/2018 02:24

Milkshakeminer oh goodness yes! Have done it for years!
Anything the kids grow out of like toys, scooters whatever, I put on the pavement with a little sign “please take” gone in 10!
The best one was the stove I mentioned earlier, it was a HUGE iron range equivalent, took 5 blokes to get it out of the house, gone in 20!

Milkshakeminer · 25/07/2018 02:25

What other ‘old fashioned’ things should be brought back?

Perihelion · 25/07/2018 02:28

Bastard neighbour has started getting milk delivered. At about 2.30am, loud diesel transit van, with a sliding door that has to be slammed shut.......wankers.

milkmilk · 25/07/2018 02:30

We get full fat. Sometimes the cream is so think a chop stick is required to break through.

A postman that delivers your post before you leave for work, then a second delivery by 9.30am would be nice.
Instead of waiting till around 2.30pm to receive every bugger else’s post but your naffing own

milkmilk · 25/07/2018 02:31

Yep milk & more in a transit. Bring back electric milk floats!

OP posts:
Perihelion · 25/07/2018 02:32

Wouldn't mind an old school electric milk float and quiet fucking doors.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/07/2018 02:36

That’s another thing!
I love getting post! Why is it all emails and texts now?! I know I sound like an old fart but I’m not that old (really) I just love to get a hand written card/note through the door (when the postman can be arsed th deliver it)

PinkCalluna · 25/07/2018 02:38

Our area gets glass milk bottles too (I’m in Scotland)

Rather that spending all this time in MN not able to sleep worrying about the milk just nip down and get it!

milkmilk · 25/07/2018 02:39

It's in the fridge now. If I could fit in I'd join it to cool down.

PinkCalluna · 25/07/2018 02:41

Well done. Off yo sleep now before the kids wake up!

Milkshakeminer · 25/07/2018 02:41

Why is it that the post doesn’t come until afternoon now? We have a rag and bone man near me, not quite the same as it was though as he has a van and a megaphone!

milkmilk · 25/07/2018 02:42

4months old is wriggling next to me.

Takes me forever to get back to sleep after being rudely woken.

Ooh yes old fashioned letters would be lovely! All I get are bills and appointment letters. I might write a letter and post it to a random address, try to revive it ha!

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/07/2018 02:43

Thank you Milk ! Why? What’s that about?

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/07/2018 02:46

Actually I saw a proper rag n bone man the other day with a horse n cart!

Milkshakeminer · 25/07/2018 02:50

That’s so nice! Ours yells ‘RHkMbhamNnJn’ or that’s what it sounds like and plays like a siren so everyone knows he’s there, luckily it’s not at 1am though!

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/07/2018 02:55

Haha! Maybe he has Tourette’s?😳

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/07/2018 02:57

Sorry just realised that may have been in poor taste. Apologies if that offended anyone

Milkshakeminer · 25/07/2018 02:59

Maybe it’s the style, like at the farmers market ‘gerallsahpAHHHND’ it takes a minute to realise apples are being sold for a pound!
