My milkman just woke me up

It's 1am and my milkman just woke me up. Now I can't sleep as all I can think about is my milk warming up (and my husband hasn't put the bin out yet at they come at 7am).

Aibu to make my husband get up and sort now?

Should I complain to the milkman?

For full disclosure; Children currently sleeping until 8am due to heat. I'm on mat leave. Husband doesn't set an alarm he relies on me. Toddler bedroom is next to the bin path. Husband awake looking at phone (probably Mumsnet)

Are you sure it's not the milkman that's in bed with you?if it is he could of woke you up at that time for a bit of hanky panky lmfao 😃😃

Our milkman comes around 4 a.m. He’s very quiet but I do sometimes hear the tiniest little clink of a full bottle being gently placed on the doorstep.

I love it. I like to know someone is about in the dark watches of the night. I used to live near a bakery and liked lying in bed knowing that if there was an emergency there were people awake and within shouting distance.

flowergrrl77 · 26/07/2018 17:51

I think my milkman must come like 4 or 5 or something, because the milk is still cold when I check at 7 or 8am!

I also get glass milk and more bottles, East Sussex in case you’re wondering peeps! I carefully have a tin box he puts it in cause of the amount of birds in the area....

I also use these lids in the fridge to help with freshness/reduce spillages/pesky children being rubbish at popping the foil back on:

Those women were in the nip!

RuthW · 26/07/2018 18:03

My father was a milkman for many years. They start work at 3am anyway and he was known to start at 1am at Christmas. I expect he was starting early before it gets to hot. Soneone gas to be first on the list and someone the last at 11am/12pm.

viques · 26/07/2018 18:03

To be fair OP if you were awake enough to be posting on MN you were awake enough to go down and get the milk in yourself.

Sorry . time for Cake ?

IsabelleSE19 · 26/07/2018 18:04

Absolutely epic Father Ted episode that one.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 26/07/2018 18:08

I stopped having my milk delivered because it was being delivered well after I left for work at 8am and sitting on the doorstep in full sun until I got home!

Surely the optimal time for milk delivery would be 5am - 6am......

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 26/07/2018 18:14

Is it really eco-friendly though?

All that driving round in vans, delivering a pint here and a pint there, surely negates the small eco-gesture of using a glass bottle (particularly if you dish-wash it rather than just rinsing it? I’d love to know what the balance is; I’d assume you’d need everyone in the street to be using the service (and that would be loud with all the door slamming) before there was an environmental advantage...

sagasleathertrousers · 26/07/2018 18:19

Our milkman comes in the middle of the night too! Will be tonight so I might well get up if I hear him actually...

Daisymaybe60 · 26/07/2018 18:20

Our milk’s delivered between 5 and 6, in glass bottles, and we never hear a thing. I’ve seen rag and bone men out on the old horse and cart lately too. And our DD2’s village gets a van delivering fresh fish every week and a Ringtons tea van. I’m hoping for the seafood man to turn up next at our local pub quiz. Smile

searose · 26/07/2018 18:25

I get milk and fresh fish delivered. and eggs its not so different from the supermarket delivery but the fish comes every two months and the milk 3 times a week plus eggs. Previous milkman used to come at 1am so I trained him to put milk in the shade new milk man carries on with shade but comes later. Sister thinks I live in some bygone age but always had milk in glass bottles.

Ifeelshit · 26/07/2018 18:26

AliceLuther most milk floats are electric now, as they go do slowly a charge lasts ages.

Emmasmum2013 · 26/07/2018 18:35

We get milk delivered on Mondays and Thursday. Last week he came at 10:30pm on Wednesday!!! DH was downstairs so he brought it in. Last night I heard him at about 4:30am. I wasn't about to get up at that time so it was lovely and warm in the morning.

I think they should bring back the pop man. We go through loads of drinks in our house. I'd love someone to bring it!!!

Ifeelshit · 26/07/2018 18:36

Oh and there's no door slamming as the back of the float is all open.

Dita73 · 26/07/2018 18:45

If you were awake why couldn’t you get up and put the bin out and get the milk in?!

Lovemusic33 · 26/07/2018 18:52

Milk in glass bottles?
Mans job to put out the bins?
Shock

Leontine · 26/07/2018 18:54

Mine is the most stealth person I’ve ever known. I have no idea what time he comes as I’ve never heard him. I’ve even stayed awake to listen! Nothing! 😂

oblada · 26/07/2018 18:57

Love getting my milk delivered!! But I did stop with the previous milkman because he randomly came before midnight and when I raised it they didn't see it as a problem. There were other issues such as my cancelling milk during holidays and coming home to a pile of milk bottles as they had 'forgotten' I'd stopped the order. New milkman is very good.

rosy71 · 26/07/2018 19:19

We have milk and orange juice delivered. The milkman comes at about 5.30am so it's never warm and comes in an electric milk float so no noise.

3kidsandafewcats · 26/07/2018 19:40

We have a milkman he delivers at 1am too, but I never hear him.

manicmij · 26/07/2018 20:07

Why not put out a cool bag with ice pack for the milk in this hot weather. Local fishman here does this for customers who are at work and lije the liveky frsh fish he sells. He doesn't though deliver at 1 am!

Leapfrog44 · 27/07/2018 10:59

why wouldn;t you bring the milk in and sort out the bins yourself since it's 1am and you can't sleep anyway..? Then set an alarm for your husband and go back to sleep

Advicewouldbelovelyta · 27/07/2018 16:55

What's the whole referral code deal?

harshbuttrue1980 · 27/07/2018 17:25

Why on earth would you make your dh bring it in when you're awake and heard the milk come?? Are you scared of the dark?? Woman up
