My milkman just woke me up

milkmilk · 25/07/2018 01:15

It's 1am and my milkman just woke me up. Now I can't sleep as all I can think about is my milk warming up (and my husband hasn't put the bin out yet at they come at 7am).

Aibu to make my husband get up and sort now?

Should I complain to the milkman?

For full disclosure; Children currently sleeping until 8am due to heat. I'm on mat leave. Husband doesn't set an alarm he relies on me. Toddler bedroom is next to the bin path. Husband awake looking at phone (probably Mumsnet)

Omg! You’ve just described that famous M&W sketch where Eric M is selling the paper and yelling “Standit! Get your evening Standit!” And Ernie says “it’s Standaard” lalala then he buys a copy and it’s called The Evening Standit

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/07/2018 03:05

Or in The Good Life when Tom is selling his veg......”Gettttyerrrrspudsngreeeenshere”

Milkshakeminer · 25/07/2018 03:07

Oh I love the good life! And goodnight sweetheart. Might have to rewatch them now lol

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/07/2018 03:08

I used to get milk deliveries in a hot country as a child. Leave a little cooler with ice packs in it and a note that says, "Oi milkie, in here please". All good.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/07/2018 03:12

Did you know that when they filmed The Good Life they were asked if they wanted a buyout or repeats, the cast thought it wouldn’t run that long so went for the buyout. Who’d have guessed they’d be showing it on Gold years later again and again?

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/07/2018 03:15

Talking of old tv series, I’ve just really enjoyed repeats of You Rang Ma Lord, Birds of a Feather and Hi De Hi, how sad is that

Milkshakeminer · 25/07/2018 03:19

That’s not sad! I used to love birds of a feather, I’m actually too young to remember most stuff first time round so I rely on the repeats! And no I didn’t know that! They should totally remake it but not change it at all!

Milkshakeminer · 25/07/2018 03:21

Omg apparently birds of a feather is still on?!

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/07/2018 03:29

Why are you stopping me from going to bed you evil temptress you!?

Milkshakeminer · 25/07/2018 03:34

You started it Halo

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/07/2018 03:36

Been very lovely but I really have gotta go! Night night Milk

Milkshakeminer · 25/07/2018 03:37

Sweet dreams!

BlueAir · 25/07/2018 03:38

Just googled to see if there's a milk delivery round these parts and there is! So I'll spend the rest of god awful this sleepless night concocting a milk order - cheers op. Grin
Wonder if they still sell Russian cake...

ImPreCis · 25/07/2018 03:41

Perihelion do you live in the SE, does the slam shut transit also have drum and base blaring out?
Three times a week we get woken up by this, it’s my next door neighbours milk delivery, it was 2.30 on Monday, sets off their 3 dogs barking. I’ve ‘mentioned’ it twice, they clearly don’t give a shit.

Ridiculously they go into town almost every day for shopping anyway, grrrr!

JeezYouLoon · 25/07/2018 04:24

Glad you got your milk in OP.

We have a new milkman who comes at about 5.30am, the old one came at 8.30am. I go to work at 7am which was useless plus he made a load of racket, new one must be a ninja.

I love my glass bottled milk and orange juice.

Anxious2niteaaah · 25/07/2018 04:28

The milkman comes at 1am?..I hope you brought the milk in or it will go off in the heat

I didn't realise there was still people.who use milkmen,

Milkshakeminer · 25/07/2018 04:37

It might be sleep deprivation but I love the idea of ninja milkmen Grin

milkysmum · 25/07/2018 04:53

We have a milkman. He delivers in a little electric milk float. Normally comes about 5am.

dailygrowl · 25/07/2018 05:01

I no longer get milk deliveries but when we used to it came at about 7.00am - no earlier. (A friend still does - glass bottles and all - must ask her what time they deliver).

In our area the problem wouldn't be milk going off if they are out there from 1am to 6 or 7am or later - it would be cats and foxes. If you don't grab the milk within 5 minutes, you can bet that the four-legged friends would be having a (messy) party outside your front door, and no (drinkable) milk left for you. 1am sounds ridiculous- that's like milk for people getting back from a late night out!

I would certainly complain....by cancelling my delivery for good!

For the members on this thread who like milk with the cream on top, Waitrose sells whole milk that is unhomogenised (both organic and the usual kind) and has the same nice lumpy cream floating on top.

Don't really know what to do about your DH and the bins, OP, other than to ask him nicely if he can help you out by setting his own alarm. I probably wouldn't have asked him to sort out the bins at any specific time, if he can set his own alarm and get up early to do them before 7.

NEFink · 25/07/2018 05:02

Why is it that the post doesn’t come until afternoon now?

Because (I think) they wont pay them extra to start work before 06.30 ish & because they have to sort their own mail from all the cages into the postcoded shelves/compartments before they can fill all 5 of their bags with letters & parcels before they leave the office at 10.00.

A van will drop their bags off at pick up points.

I may have some of that wrong, but thats what I can recall being told.

Seedso · 25/07/2018 05:27

I cancelled my milkman about a month ago - sick of being woken up twice a week at 3.30-4.00am. Diesel truck with the loudest engine that revved coming into the street, revved whilst doing a 3 point turn, revved to get back down to my house then revved pulling off and revved again pulling out of the street.

Milk was going off too quick too after being out of his refrigerated unit from 1am.

Skyejuly · 25/07/2018 06:04

I use a milkman. We are rural. They come about 4am though. I leave out a cooler.

sendthecoffee · 25/07/2018 06:26

My dad was a milkman up until quite recently. He started his rounds at 2am. Because there are so few of them, their rounds are huge - my dad had over 500 customers. They pretty much all had to swap to transit vans because the floats were too slow to get them around. He would usually finish his round by 9am.
