To be disgusted by my own city?

Seen lovely footage of fans “celebrating” by smashing up a taxi ... jumping up and down on it, completely smashed the windscreen. All done with a large crowd watching them and singing.

Jumping up and down on bus shelters, again smashing them to pieces.

I’m so utterly disgraced with my hometown.

Think you are in the same city as me. I couldn't believe it, so ashamed of our city.

NameChangedAgain18 · 07/07/2018 23:06

Vile. This is why I hate football. You don’t see tennis, rugby or cricket fans carrying on like that.

JockTamsonsBairns · 07/07/2018 23:06

Which city? Haven't heard of any unrest so far..

DelRaya · 07/07/2018 23:07

Nottingham

I think there has been some poor behaviour in London too.

It’s an alcohol fuelled culture out of control.

DelRaya · 07/07/2018 23:10

Absolutely disgusting

When I passed Southbank and Beirkeller in Nottingham city around 12:30 they were already full and turning people away. Hardly surprising there would be twats by the end of the match.

Ollivander84 · 07/07/2018 23:19

London have had a rapid response ambulance car trashed so it's now off the road

Smellyoulateralligator · 07/07/2018 23:19

I was in a pub in a v nice part of London and the manager told me he was worried about it kicking off if there was a win. Apparently after the last game patrons were smashing glasses etc. Crazy

Shock

YANBU but honestly it is happening all.over the country so we should really be ashamed of sectors of society in our entire country!

HelenaDove · 07/07/2018 23:23

Went into town at 5.30 pm today and there were people outside pubs throwing balls in the way of moving buses ........kicking them REALLY hard (if it smacked someone in the face it could break their nose or smash their teeth. ) There was a young woman on the main door of Tesco "the police cant do anything there are so many of them"

GunpowderGelatine · 07/07/2018 23:23

Disgusting.

As usual a small minority ruin it for the fans who just simply enjoy the game without expressing violence

OliviaStabler · 07/07/2018 23:24

YABU

It is only a certain type of person who acts like this, not the entire city.

Piccolino2 · 07/07/2018 23:25

This is absolutely appalling. I really am sickened and angry. How much will this bloody World Cup end up costing our councils, NHS and services.

LEMtheoriginal · 07/07/2018 23:26

I live in a naice seaside town. Its like the fucking notting hill carnival outside. I dont think its even in my street. Fuckwits

Ploppymoodypants · 07/07/2018 23:26

So in our city the Wetherspoons and other pubs were not showing the England match. They were showing other matches (I.e Russia and Croatia this evening) and had shown previous England ones. When asked why, they all said it was too costly having adequate door staff/security and cleaning up the mess and repairing damage and that the football fans intimidate and scare off other customers. There is a big screen in the city centre and the local businesses had a vote on whether to show Wimbledon or football and the vote was for tennis for the same reasons. The football fans cause too much damage and scare customers/shoppers away. The places that are showing it (sports centres and the local football club) are pitching it as a ‘family friendly day out with bbq and kids’. As you can imagine there are loads of complaints from football fans who are all kicking off about how it’s all so unfair. Yet they seem incapable of understanding that their own behaviour or that of their peers which has been left unchallenged by them is the cause of it all. I likened it to a class detention because of the behaviour of the majority. There are always the few that are punished unfairly.

FreeofPills · 07/07/2018 23:27

yes, an emergency vehicle off the road in London

mate of mine was working in a pub in the last World Cup loss, she had to hide behind the bar - like drop to her stomach.

ProudThrilledHappy · 07/07/2018 23:27

I live in a generally quite nice village, lots of affluent professionals live here. Walked to the local shop and there was a big group of men kicking off at each other, shouting “fucking come on then” etc. It was only 7pm Shock

The England match was on mid afternoon so many have been drinking since around 2pm.

FreeofPills · 07/07/2018 23:28

@Ploppymoodypants

cross post

oh wow, we can't find a pub that isn't showing it in my area!

crazycatgal · 07/07/2018 23:28

I can currently hear a bunch of tossers repeatedly shouting 'ENG-ER-LAND' a few streets away.

Football is always ruined by the drunk yobbos who can't handle their drink and behave like dicks.

mysocksmakemeitchy · 07/07/2018 23:29

I really hoped England would lose and get kicked out Sad

I hate and fear yob culture.

EvilEdna1 · 07/07/2018 23:29

I live in a small Surrey town and in the last hour there have been sirens going past every 10 mins.
