To be disgusted by my own city?

Seen lovely footage of fans “celebrating” by smashing up a taxi ... jumping up and down on it, completely smashed the windscreen. All done with a large crowd watching them and singing.

Jumping up and down on bus shelters, again smashing them to pieces.

I’m so utterly disgraced with my hometown.

Our local shop also closed at 6pm because of it 😕

HelenaDove · 07/07/2018 23:30

The incident in the link ive put up was played down and minimized. So fed up of this attitude just because its football.

looks like it makes no difference whether England win or lose..........there is still this shit to contend with.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 07/07/2018 23:30

Ploppy that sounds fabulously well thought out. This country has a horrendous problem with booze and football unfortunately. Seems that a hefty number of people can’t seem to regulate themselves with it. We had streets blocked by fools, and some trying to damage buses and cars. Pretty embarrassing, but worse are the people excusing it because it’s football and that makes everything ok. I feel sorry for the average football fans having to be associated with them (and I’m a die hard football hater).

Confuzzlediddled · 07/07/2018 23:31

When I was 15 my parents took my friend and I on holiday to Spain, it was 1990 and we were in the village square one evening, England had just won a match and they were burning flags of the other country, when a man heard us talking to each other (we're Scottish) he grabbed me and threatened to slit my throat - easily one of the most frightening experiences of my life.
That to me summed up idiot football "supporters"

Ploppymoodypants · 07/07/2018 23:33

Well I guess local businesses have learnt the hard way. It’s a shame for the decent fans. The rugby World Cup is all big screens in the park etc, so is Wimbledon, the Olympics. It’s fab, amazing community atmosphere, there is still a bar and drinking, etc but none of this mindless yob behaviour.

mysocksmakemeitchy · 07/07/2018 23:33

When are Engerland next playing, so I know to remain indoors?

OliviaBonas · 07/07/2018 23:34

I’m in Nottingham too. It’s disgraceful behaviour.

HelenaDove · 07/07/2018 23:34

" but worse are the people excusing it because it’s football and that makes everything ok"

certain sections of the media + authorities.

HelenaDove · 07/07/2018 23:36

its Wednesday mysock I have an appointment in town which im fucked if im going to cancel.

DarkDarkNight · 07/07/2018 23:36

Makes you dread what will happen if they make the final or even win. It’s such a shame, if your team wins you should be happy. Why do our fans have to go so quickly to drunken violence?

Prestonsflowers · 07/07/2018 23:36

I live Wales, so we don’t really have any problems 😉

I do agree though that drunken arsehole behaviour does increase after an England win. Same in Scotland after a Rangers Celtic game.
People who behave like this aren’t really football fans, they’re just drunken pissheads using England’s win to behave like twats

theSFclub · 07/07/2018 23:36

Another one from Nottingham here! I was in town earlier as I work very close to the market square but I didn't see anything and there were lots of police about, must have been after I left.

FreeofPills · 07/07/2018 23:37

next match is Weds at 7pm

There's a couple of roads closed here which surprised me as I don't remember having a notice - I wonder if they closed them last minute due to fears of violence or something. They are on main bus routes.

garethsouthgatesmrs · 07/07/2018 23:37

mysocksmakemeitchy wednesday and of they win sunday.

I like football. my DH went out for the last game I stayed in to watch it. He was offended by all the racist chanting so we watched today's game with friends at home. Please don't think that all football fans are like these. It's the minority that ruin it for majority.

mysocksmakemeitchy · 07/07/2018 23:37

We’re on holiday in north wales then. Are welsh people as deranged as this? Sad

I hate this country, don’t even feel safe during the day now.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 07/07/2018 23:39

The local news pages are full of it Helena, typical posts in response to a story of a young lad’s party bus being surrounded and pushed/jumped on by a mob of drunk football fans seemed to boil down to “it’s been decades, calm down” and “its coming home though so who cares?”

I may hide under a rock for the next week or so, until it all blows over.

Titsywoo · 07/07/2018 23:39

If they don't win on Wednesday they'll play Saturday too so 2 games either way

DelRaya · 07/07/2018 23:40

It’s sad that this behaviour is worse when they actually win.

I hope we bloody lose the next match ... and that’s quite devastating to want your own country to lose and not be proud of it.

I thought the final was on a Sunday?

Lots of people are enjoying England’s success n this World Cup - without behaving like hooligans.
Do these people behave normally when England are not playing internationally? I doubt it.

I live in a large city, anti social behaviour has increased dramatically the past 3-4 years. It seems to be be almost acceptable now, and there is little police response when it is reported.

We have also “enjoyed” hot sunny weather here for the last six weeks. It brings them all out, in all hours.

Roll on October.

itsBritneyBeach · 07/07/2018 23:41

I'm in Derby. Fucking disgusting scenes! An IKEA in London has been smashed up with no regard for employees at all.

I love all the football optimism and cheer it brings, but not the drunken idiotsSad

HelenaDove · 07/07/2018 23:41

DelRaya i feel the same . You are not alone.

mmmgoats · 07/07/2018 23:41

it’s a real shame for what i call the real fans - the ones who follow the sport and don’t use it as an excuse to behave appallingly. It seems there are groups that just use it as an excuse to drink all day, then abuse people and property as they see fit all under the vague umbrella of “celebration”. I watched the match today in our local with a small crowd and it was actually lovely. Friendly atmosphere everyone had a toast afterwards, no trouble. Out in the city centre though people were just milling about, chanting, throwing stuff and breaking things. It’s appalling and completely out of control. I do dread us getting to the final too as whichever way it goes there will be utter carnage (and that’s coming from someone who really really wants us to win it!)

DelRaya · 07/07/2018 23:41

If they don't win on Wednesday they'll play Saturday too so 2 games either way

Just did a quick google and if England go through to the final then the matches are Wednesday and Sunday

I hope they lose and keep on losing. Just stfu and go away, all of it.
