Got into a heated debate with someone at work this morning who isn’t from the UK and he was saying how revolting all the food is.

Some of my favourites:

Really good fish & chips
Scones with clotted cream & Jam
Sticky toffee pudding

We also have some of the best seafood

British food, when done well, is wonderful.
For me it would be a roast beef dinner.

JudyGrandChamp · 04/07/2018 10:42

Crumpets slathered in butter.

Food of kings Grin

DeepfriedPizza · 04/07/2018 10:45

Toad in the hole with lashings of gravy and cauliflower cheese

Medea13 · 04/07/2018 10:46

Stodgy carbs and animal fat, mmmm... Hmm

InTheLightOfTheMoon · 04/07/2018 10:46

Nothing. It is very bad!

AnyFucker · 04/07/2018 10:47

Chicken tikka

Louiselouie0890 · 04/07/2018 10:50

Sunday dinner you can't beat it.

BestBeforeYesterday · 04/07/2018 10:51

Trifle with loads of booze.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 04/07/2018 10:54

Definitely a roast dinner with all the trimmings.

OohMavis · 04/07/2018 10:56

Obviously proper fish and chips.
A good, rich stew.
Beef roast, yorkshire puddings.

Our cheese is excellent.
Our puddings are excellent.

If you're not a fan of rich, stodgy, winter-warming food then you're not really experiencing British food at its finest imo.

SlimmingMumOf1 · 04/07/2018 10:56

Hunters Chicken

dizzydaisies · 04/07/2018 11:00

I really want cauliflower cheese now 😋

Iamtryingtobenicehere · 04/07/2018 11:00

I’m now a vegetarian but I fondly remember
Roast dinners with roasted spuds cooked in lard or goose fat
Steak & kidney pudding
Shepherds pie.
Beef Wellington
Melt in your mouth beef & ale pie
Succulent beef stew with fluffy dumplings.
Fish pie with mash potato topping.
Ploughman’s lunch with lovely farmhouse cheese.
Eaton mess
Apple pie and home made custard
Spotted dick (a proper suet one, not a sponge one)
Afternoon tea served on a proper cake stand is quintessential and lovely too
Your colleague sounds like a dick.

AdaColeman · 04/07/2018 11:08

Afternoon tea.

Smoked salmon and seafood, Cromer crab is hard to beat, our oysters are excellent.

Puddings & cakes such as syrup sponge, apple crumble, Victoria sponge.

Oh and hot custard of course!

ZispinAndWine · 04/07/2018 11:14

Mince pies?

I'm fine with most British foods, but struggling to think of anything traditional I'd love, unless it's particularly well made.

PastramiAndRye · 04/07/2018 11:27

Christmas pudding!

Frosty66612 · 04/07/2018 11:28

@ada ooh yes, Cromer crab is divine!

Homemade cottage pie in a winter. Best thing ever. I love British food when it's properly cooked and I am foreign 😁
Oh and English breakfast minus the black pudding.
Most of the traditional food is kind of a comfort food and that's right down my alley.

Bellalunagirl · 04/07/2018 11:35

Nobody makes cheddar cheese like we do! Grin

givemushypeasachance · 04/07/2018 11:43

Fish and chips, properly done pies and pasties and sausage rolls, roast dinners, shepherd's pie and cottage pie. Full English breakfast. Lots of lovely cakes, scones, proper ice cream. We have so many great regional cheeses you can have as a ploughman's or a cheese board.

LaCerbiatta · 04/07/2018 11:50

You have some of the best sea food????

That's the one thing I miss the most here - good fish and good sea food! It's such a limited variety, extortionate prices and far feim fresh....

And at pubs is always coated in batter and lacking seasoning , you only taste the fatty stodge...

And don't get me started on fish and chips! How can you ruin a good piece of fish by not seasoning and then coating it in batter?? I wonder if people had to eat it without mayo, ketchup, tartare sauce if it would be as popular...

TwoSweetenersImBitterEnough · 04/07/2018 12:00

For a proper meal it would have to be chicken tikka masala or a roast dinner (proper one with all the trimmings like cauliflower cheese/homemade Yorkshire's and roasted seasoned veggies and potatoes, home made gravy and really thick creamy mash)

For a junk meal it would have to be chips cheese and gravy (I'm not too keen on fish) or a full English (without black pudding sorry not sorry Envy)

NurseryFightClub · 04/07/2018 12:01

Victoria sponge cake

eggsandchips · 04/07/2018 12:03

Toad in the hole with onion gravy
