Got into a heated debate with someone at work this morning who isn’t from the UK and he was saying how revolting all the food is.

Some of my favourites:

Really good fish & chips
Scones with clotted cream & Jam
Sticky toffee pudding

We also have some of the best seafood

Christ I can’t think of anything
This is so wank but since I started #cleaneating

New potatoes and rubbharb Blush
And English lettuce

Battytwatty · 04/07/2018 20:22

Corned beef hash
Amazing cheese
Scotch eggs
Bury black pudding
Haggis
Chips and gravy
Pie and mushy peas

noeffingidea · 04/07/2018 20:22

Bubble and squeak
Ploughmans lunch with stilton or farmhouse cheddar
Apple crumble and custard or clotted cream
A proper English tea, with cucumber sandwiches and little cakes and a posh cup of tea in a posh bone china cup and saucer. And there must be a doily on the plates the cakes are served on.
Who cares if foreign people don't like British food? Leaves more for us.

2)Macaroni Cheese

It's pretty awful, mixed race family so grew up eating brutish and Caribbean. Caribbean wins hands down every time. My experience of British food is bland

CheeseTheDay · 04/07/2018 20:28

Yorkshire puddings
Wensleydale cheese

OohMavis · 04/07/2018 20:34

Moomin I cook a mix of British and Caribbean food. The kids love both! I like to think that's because I'm good at cooking British food (and actually use seasoning), unlike my mum who boiled everything until it was fossilized and thought salt was a swearword

I think if anything British food is the easiest to be put off. A few plates of overdone beef and mushy bland potatoes and you're ruined.

Pinook · 04/07/2018 20:37

All the summer berries
Asparagus
Good bread for making toast.
Sunday roast with lashings of gravy
Jersey new potatoes
Fish and chips
Scones, clotted cream and jam.
Sausages
Crab

I do think southern Europe’s salad vegetables have more flavour, tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce etc, but that is because they have more sun.

lardymclardy · 04/07/2018 20:40

A good hearty beef stew and dumplings, heavy on the seasoning especially pepper for me. Leave it for a couple of days and it's even better... Bring on winter I say Grin

I do fancy a bit of cauli cheese now though.... I'll settle for a fried egg sarnie, pinch of salt and ketchup.

ThistleAmore · 04/07/2018 20:44

I can see the point of non-British people, when you see the responses here to 'what's your favourite food?'

'FOOD, WITH SAUCE ON IT OR ENCASED IN SOME FORM OF, ER, CASING, BASICALLY'.

BillywigSting · 04/07/2018 20:48

Scouse (sort of beef and potato stew from Liverpool)
Manchester tarts
Blackcurrant jam on thick white toast
Basically everything else pp have listed

enerytheeighth · 04/07/2018 20:52

Steak and kidney pie
Sticky toffee pudding

SplishSplashSplosh · 04/07/2018 20:59

Has to be a roast dinner with Yorkshire puds for me. And apple crumble/ pie and custard for dessert.

Don't agree with the seafood being the best here though.

Getoffthetableplease · 04/07/2018 20:59

Oh definitely traditional pie, mash and liquor from the east end, meal of dreams!

Pasithea · 04/07/2018 21:00

A really good Cullen skink

CheshireChat · 04/07/2018 21:00

British food is pretty stodgy so not an ideal choice for a hot summer really.

I like scones and crumpets, occasionally fish and chips, gravy, Yorkshire puddings and toad in the hole.

LemonysSnicket · 04/07/2018 21:01

Plus even without British food we have loads off international cuisine available

ThistleAmore · 04/07/2018 21:04

@enerytheeighth -

I'm Scottish, of Eastern European descent.

I come from a culinary heritage which is basically 'here are some vegetables, which we have killed to death, and a very small amount of meat. Oh, and some oats. And paprika. Now, enjoy.'

Thank god I travelled. And became vegetarian.
