AIBU to be mortified? I'm feeling so embarrassed

I just ordered a McDonald's breakfast and was holding my tray whilst steering DS's pram to an available seat.

Someone didn't hear me say excuse me and my pram hit on their chair.

My drink (large sprite of all things), just went flying and fell on the floor.

The young bloke sitting there was very Hmm

Anyway, I told the cleaning lady "I'm so sorry but there's been a spillage"

She said "Yes I can see that with my eyes girl".

So I sat down, mortified. I usually just let these types of scenarios go but for some reason, I looked up and a few people were looking at me Confused

So I messaged DH

Anyway, 5 minutes later the woman comes over and asks me "What size sprite was that?"

I said a large please.

She said loudly, for the whole section to hear "There's no way that was a large sprite. There would be more liquid. That was more of a medium".

So I said it was a large, I have the receipt (I handed it to her).

She looked at it with disdain and then hurried off, came back 10 mins later with my sprite and say there you go then.

AIBU to be a bit embarrassed Blush

I usually let embarrassing scenarios go over my head but loads of people are still looking up for some reason and the cleaning lady just complained loudly to a colleague "I just don't have the energy today man"

Complain via email to MCDsHQ. She has a serious attitude problem. She works in the food industry, there will be spills. What did she expect?

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 26/06/2018 10:25

It was an accident and the woman was rude. My go to response is just a silent stare.

Don’t be embarrassed, these things happen.

QueenB14 · 26/06/2018 10:26

You're there now?

Breathe, enjoy your breakfast!

These things happen (a lot to me) and you don't even know these people.

Cleaning lady was an arse but don't take any notice now. Enjoy your maccys Smile

Poodles1980 · 26/06/2018 10:26

Let it go. She is a stupid cow but it’s not going to alter your life in any way

AlbusPercival · 26/06/2018 10:26

Oh bless you. DS at a similar age up ended my tray everywhere. I get it

keyboardkate · 26/06/2018 10:27

Don't worry about it. Within five minutes everyone there will have moved back to looking at their phones.

The heat is making people a bit meh at the moment. Not nice, but not the end of the world either. Shit happens.

InsomniacAnonymous · 26/06/2018 10:27

I was struck by this - "Someone didn't hear me say excuse me and my pram hit on their chair.". If they didn't respond to you saying "excuse me" (whether they heard you or not), so didn't move so that you could pass, why did you carry on regardless, resulting in the pram hitting their chair and the spillage? Confused

Notlivestock · 26/06/2018 10:29

Aww, OP Sad the cleaning lady and other staff sound like they were being dicks. It was an accident, they really shouldn't have been so rude, totally uncalled for. Everyone has spilled or dropped something at some point!

In fact let me share some of my most embarrassing moments so you feel better and remember how normal accidents are:

Once stepped backwards in Starbucks while wearing a backpack and knocked over a display of China mugs causing easily 30 of them to smash into millions of pieces

Fell over on any icy path while holding a burrito which I squeezed as I fell, causing refried beans to spurt in my face

Tried to dig a scoop of solid ice cream out of the tub at my ex boyfriend's VERY formal and wealthy grandmother's house, the scoop slipped and fired a ball of ice cream over my shoulder to hit the silk wallpapered wall behind me and slide down

Tipped an entire tray of champagne flutes on a bride to be at her hen party because one of her hens grabbed two glasses from the tray and unbalanced it

And on every occasion I was so embarrassed and mortified, so I know how you feel! But everyone in the world has done something like this at least once and so if they are judgmental instead of sympathetic it's because they aren't very nice people Flowers

PaintTheTownInNeutrals · 26/06/2018 10:29

Insom To be fair they did hear me, they turned their head around slightly but the movement was a bit delayed and my movement a bit too fast

I have a bugaboo Bee 5 and it's quite tricky to control one handed as it's so light Blush

Jack I've made it sound like I just rammed my pram in.

I promise I didn't at all, I did ask very clearly and they did hear but their response was delayed and mine a bit too fast.

I thought by the way their friend was looking in my direction, they both knew I was right there

I misjudged it and I spilt the drink.

I didn't ram my pram in or just expect everyone to part like the Red Sea for me

Elzbells · 26/06/2018 10:32

I fell up the stairs in a ridiculously busy McDonalds carrying 4 large cokes. They all went flying down, hit the floor and exploded over about 20 people!

Your cleaning lady is an arse.

SouthWestmom · 26/06/2018 10:34

It wasn't clear
You said excuse me
It still wasn't clear
So you carried on anyway
Your drink went flying

That is why everyone is looking and the cleaner is fed up

TheFifthKey · 26/06/2018 10:36

It's amazing how people who weren't there know exactly what happened.

It's an absolute PITA pushing a pushchair and carrying a tray - can't we as women have the tiniest bit of compassion for others who have these small struggles every day that make life just that bit harder?

Tara12 · 26/06/2018 10:37

Quite funny if you think about it later. x

Jinglebells99 · 26/06/2018 10:38

The accident was off your own doing, but they replaced your drink for free anyway. You caused her extra work but you still aren’t happy? Next time, I would park the buggy then return for the tray. Or just do the thing where you pick a zone and they bring the food over. I once tipped a muffin off my train in cafe Nero after I’d paid. It wasn’t replaced, I dropped it, my loss.

Butterflyrosebud · 26/06/2018 10:40

Don’t worry. Stuff like this happens to me all the time.

I’m sure I’ll get worse once I have my baby and a pram to navigate around shops/ restaurants!

WinnieFosterTether · 26/06/2018 10:41

I don't think OP deliberately rammed the chair. She thought they were moving the chair because they'd turned. She misjudged it. Meh it happens.
Don't worry OP. Enjoy your Sprite.

DiscontinuedModelHusband · 26/06/2018 10:41

wait...

you had sprite for breakfast?

YABDVVVVU.

WeeDangerousSpike · 26/06/2018 10:42

OP, if I had been there I would have been looking - at the cleaning lady, in absolute shock that she was being so rude about what was clearly an accident. Are you sure it was you being judged?

PaintTheTownInNeutrals · 26/06/2018 10:42

Jingle I appreciate that dropping the drink was my fault, I did cause her extra work but I'm not happy, as you put it, because she was rude about it Sad

I'm not going to complain because I know she won't be earning much and I will let it go. It just isn't very nice

My local McDonald's doesn't have that table service option and the only seats available were at the end of the restaurant, meaning i would have had to leave my DS completely out of site by quite a bit.

On top of that, you don't always think of these things when you're tired and trying to steer a pram too, on top of a tray.

I know it was my fault but I just felt like it could've been handled better by her

OP posts:
January87 · 26/06/2018 10:43

Ah everyone here saying it's the OP's fault needs to calm their tits. Honestly.

OP, someone from McD's should have offered to carry your tray to the table for you if you had a pram.

There was no need for the woman to be rude.

Don't worry about it.

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 26/06/2018 10:43

It's very controversial on MN Grin but I find it so much easier to find a seat first, and park the pram before you order.
Forget all about it now, it really doesn't matter. At least you didn't throw the drink over somebody's head!

Fell over on any icy path while holding a burrito which I squeezed as I fell, causing refried beans to spurt in my face

Myotherusernameisbest · 26/06/2018 10:44

Don't be embarrassed. Something like this happens to everyone at some point. just look at poor Notlivestock

Enjoy your breakfast, the cleaning lady is an arse. It was an accident. I don't think you rammed the chair OP. I too have been in a similar scenario where I thought the gap was fine but a wheel went a bit wayard and caught a chair leg. I wasn't carrying a large coke mind but with a buggy, pushing one handed, its so easily done.

I'm a bit saddened noone thought to help you.

Bibesia · 26/06/2018 10:44

To be fair, none of us has the energy today to be doing physical work. That's why I'm sitting in front of a fan pratting around on MN. Smile
