AIBU to be mortified? I'm feeling so embarrassed

I just ordered a McDonald's breakfast and was holding my tray whilst steering DS's pram to an available seat.

Someone didn't hear me say excuse me and my pram hit on their chair.

My drink (large sprite of all things), just went flying and fell on the floor.

The young bloke sitting there was very Hmm

Anyway, I told the cleaning lady "I'm so sorry but there's been a spillage"

She said "Yes I can see that with my eyes girl".

So I sat down, mortified. I usually just let these types of scenarios go but for some reason, I looked up and a few people were looking at me Confused

So I messaged DH

Anyway, 5 minutes later the woman comes over and asks me "What size sprite was that?"

I said a large please.

She said loudly, for the whole section to hear "There's no way that was a large sprite. There would be more liquid. That was more of a medium".

So I said it was a large, I have the receipt (I handed it to her).

She looked at it with disdain and then hurried off, came back 10 mins later with my sprite and say there you go then.

AIBU to be a bit embarrassed Blush

I usually let embarrassing scenarios go over my head but loads of people are still looking up for some reason and the cleaning lady just complained loudly to a colleague "I just don't have the energy today man"

I usually go to the drive-thru so I wasn’t aware that the customer service was so good - this actually sounds really great for the price!

QuestionableMouse · 26/06/2018 17:27

McDonald's are mad hot on great customer service. Imo when it's done right it's some of the best.

*A seagull once shat all over my head and the pasty that was halfway to my mouth at the time.

This has also happened to me, but with a burger*

I read that as “but with a burglar“ and my mind boggled briefly Grin

I'm the most clumsiest people of them all. I just laugh it off and apologise. It's an accident. As mortifying as it is. Try to forget about it. Hope you enjoyed your breakfast!

tccat · 26/06/2018 18:16

I dropped a massive bowl of parsnip and coconut soup all over my desk at work, and the chair and the floor
Unfortunately I didnt realise it had also got inside my umbrella which was under the desk till I opened it outside....

Alicatz66 · 26/06/2018 19:02

Awww .. don't worry .. spills happen .. don't be embarrassed if was just an accident .. the Cleaner was rude but I'd let her off in this heat .. you never know what is going on in people's lives, she could be having a horrible time over something and being grumpy ... I'm dreaming of McFlurrys today... will be my work lunch tomorrow!

PaintTheTownInNeutrals · 26/06/2018 19:07

You have absolutely nothing to complain about

Hmm, alrighty then.

Anyway, thanks all for the uplifting and reassuring comments Thanks

The Cleaner must've been one of the judgy Mumsnet sugar police !!!! .... she was horrified at your Sprite !!! .... you enjoy it OP .. I've just had a cornetto for dinner as I'm not cooking in this weather Grin

SoftBallSophie · 26/06/2018 19:44

OP you did nothing wrong, accidents happen, especially when multitasking with a buggy to manoeuvre as well.

Most of the people looking at you were probably thinking 'that poor woman'

Cleaning lady was out of order, she works in a fast food restaurant, cleaning up spills must be a huge part of the job.

@tccat GrinGrinGrin Oh my!

crispysausagerolls Yup, McDonalds have very high standards for customer service; they want customers to have the gold standard experience in all areas of the restaurant.

Crew are trained on how to greet and say farewell to customers, customer recovery, how to make it special for each and every visitor and so on. They are consistently told about the Vital Ingredients, which in short is all the qualities we expect our crew to embody and project.

Training for each area is in depth and thorough, and customer experience and how we interact with customers is a huge part of that.

Crew (and even higher up the hierarchy) should be giving the best experience possible, because if they’re not, they’re not delivering the experience we want customers to have.

And what about the current TV ad where the harassed new parents with pram and bags etc are helped to a seat and made to feel that they are not pariahs? Quite right too.

Boredandtired · 26/06/2018 21:40

You should check molain about her attitude and service. Definitely. It's awful.
But it's equally unreasonable to have a large sprite for breakfast Wink

SoftBallSophie · 27/06/2018 07:12

I do think you should complain, your experience was not what McDonald's want. The staff in that branch need more training.
