Just paper your whole goddamn room or paint it.

Grin

That is all.

YABU. Mine is beautiful Grin

Cantspell2 · 07/06/2018 18:23

Well don’t have one then. Lots of things other people do that I wouldn’t and I can’t say I ever waste any brain space on it.

bilbodog · 07/06/2018 18:23

I hear you - no feature walls here 😄

Kaykay06 · 07/06/2018 18:23

Ha yep only if it’s really gaudy wallpaper
I recently moved and this house has the most awful one papered wall in the living room and kitchen. Will live with it till I can decide what to replace it with.

hennybeans · 07/06/2018 18:24

I know they're outdated, but I have my chimney breast painted a dark plum. No way could I paint the whole living room that colour! So do you then just always have rooms painted in light or neutral colours?

Same for wall paper. I don't have any, but some patterns (most?!) would look terrible covering an entire room. What do you do then?

athingthateveryoneneeds · 07/06/2018 18:26

I pulled down the feature wallpaper in our front room to find the plaster coming down with it. Should've left it up, really! (it was snakeskin textured wallpaper tho...)

It's just a trend, innit. Everyone loved 'em a decade ago. This time next year everyone will hate the grey trend. IMO house decoration shouldn't be trendy or high fashion, it should just be colours/patterns/textures people who are living there enjoy best.

PinkHeart5914 · 07/06/2018 18:26

Feature wallpaper is nothing, when we first moved in to this house EVERY bedroom had 1 cork wall, cork I tell you it still gives me nightmares. Why would someone do such a thing? Why?

HeyDolly · 07/06/2018 18:27

See henny I would describe that as a feature wall. I also have my chimney breast a different colour and no, OP, it’s not naff Wink

treeofhearts · 07/06/2018 18:27

I have a double feature wall. Grin Wallpaper on one, bright colour on opposite and end two walls neutral. It's gorgeous.

Unbelievably naff. I can’t stand wallpaper anyway.

3luckystars · 07/06/2018 18:29

I understand. But...
In defense of the feature wall, I have wallpaper that is the same colour as the paint on one wall of our bedroom, it’s plain coloured paper but textured and it’s a total knockout. You wouldn’t even know it’s different but you can feel it.
It’s my favorite room in the world. Not so much a feature wall but a textured wall, and it’s gorgeous.

Gilead · 07/06/2018 18:29

Meh. People live there, they have what they like. You live in your place and have what you like. Doesn't really matter, does it. Your proclamation makes no odds to me and the feature wall in my bedroom.

RoseWhiteTips · 07/06/2018 18:29

A trend? If it ever was, it certainly isn’t now.
Big blowsy pink flowers were the worst.

The80sweregreat · 07/06/2018 18:30

Aww- I love my dark mauve feature wall!
Whole room needs doing again though ..

RoseWhiteTips · 07/06/2018 18:31

Dislike wallpaper too. Would actually prefer cork walls to that; anyway, cork is retro.

BarryTheKestrel · 07/06/2018 18:31

I have one wall a different colour because otherwise my whole house would be white (DHs insistence!). I love my little injections of colour! YABU.

NapQueen · 07/06/2018 18:31

Is it only if it is wallpaper? I love my painted feature wall. No way could the room handle all walls in that colour

To find feature walls unbelievably naff?
RoseWhiteTips · 07/06/2018 18:32

The grey thing is worse, though. It is so lacking in imagination.

The80sweregreat · 07/06/2018 18:32

I had cork walls in my old place as well. Very 70s. Took hours to steam theme off. Now that was naff!

Cornettoninja · 07/06/2018 18:32

hennybeans makes the argument well imho.

Some colours/patterns would look awful covering a room so people just want a tasteful smattering. I do think it will date although it's not doing too badly at the moment.

I'm more bothered about the world and his wife cladding their house in that wood stuff and painting it grey (this generations pebbledash I'm predicting) and those glossy kitchens everywhere.

RoseWhiteTips · 07/06/2018 18:32

No. Feature walls full stop are not good.

Murane · 07/06/2018 18:32

My kitchen is painted white but one wall is natural brick. It looks nice imo.

RoseWhiteTips · 07/06/2018 18:33

I prefer white walls.
