Just paper your whole goddamn room or paint it.

That is all.

Don't mind the odd feature wall (don't have any personally) but not mad on the 'feature wall in every room in totally contrasting paper' thing. Confused

mittensofsteel · 07/06/2018 18:58

Thanks @NapQueen Smile

BottleOfJameson · 07/06/2018 18:58

I don't mind one wall in a bold colour but hate the feature wallpaper with a OTT design. That said I don't really mind what other people do with their houses.

GreatBigHooandToodleloo · 07/06/2018 18:59

What the opinion on a photo wall? I have one wall painted a different colour and loads of frames photos of different sizes stuck to it. I love it!

I also like my grey hall stairs and landing.

jamoncrumpets · 07/06/2018 18:59

Feature walls always make me think of Changing Rooms with Carol Smilie. They look really dated now.

KnitFastDieWarm · 07/06/2018 19:04

I love my dark grey-blue feature wall, it contrasts nicely with my massive white chalk painted fireplace and my mustard yellow armchairs and my gold framed theatre posters Grin (I prefer paint to wallpaper though) But wouldn’t it be shit if we all like the same thing?

Formalyknownas99 · 07/06/2018 19:04

@napqueen I love your green wall...I wanted that shade of green for my feature wall...couldn’t find it!

TaighNamGastaOrt · 07/06/2018 19:04

YABU. I love my campervan wallpaper but doing the whole room would be too much.
When we moved in here, the previous tenant had painted the whole hall upstairs and downstairs in a dark brown mixed with sand (!) to create a 'suede' effect. It was shit. Our hall was constantly dark as it just sucked up any light and if the kids brushed against the wall, they grazed their skin! 3 tubs of polyfilla it took to cover it and repaint a bright colour!
So I'll stick with my cheery feature wall and leave all the trendy, sandy, grey 'fashions' to everyone else!! Each to their own! Grin

who puts fuckin sand on their wall

RoseWhiteTips · 07/06/2018 19:05

Why are some people so offended?

RoseWhiteTips · 07/06/2018 19:06

Grey rooms are now passé.

Semster · 07/06/2018 19:06

They are cringy

Madbengalmum · 07/06/2018 19:09

I think saying they are all outdated is very generalistic, it surely depends on how it is done and what with in what environment. I have seen some stunning things and some god awful things, really depends.

PrimalLass · 07/06/2018 19:09

Grey rooms are now passé.

But saying passé is fine 😂🙄

Jeffjefftyjeff · 07/06/2018 19:10

Ah if only the previous owners of my house knew of feature walls. Instead we had bright, patterned wallpaper entirely covering every room of the house. Even the bathroom! Including under the tiles! We filled a skip with wallpaper strippings.

The80sweregreat · 07/06/2018 19:11

My old place was awful - wood cladding cork tiles in one bedroom beige tiles in the kitchen red flock wallpaper and brown skirting boards. What were the previous owners thinking? They really were on glue!

user1499173618 · 07/06/2018 19:13

Grey walls started as a way of making north facing rooms look better - the grey walls absorb the grey northern light that makes other colours look so dreary. People shouldn’t paint rooms that don’t have northern light issues in shades of grey.

It’s SUPER important to take account of the colour of the natural light in a room before taking decorating decisions.

I agree. A feature wall with bold wallpaper is very passé. Especially if there’s a bit of matchy-matchy going on with cushions and accessories. (This is my parents’ sitting room 😬)

A feature wall painted however, is OK.

Tartsamazeballs · 07/06/2018 19:20

I have an "unfeature wall" in the kids playroom. 3 walls in a mid-brown cookie dough colour, and one wall plain white with brown frames on it. I like it 😁

Mummadeeze · 07/06/2018 19:22

I papered one wall with Lego style wall paper (ie raised white circles on it) and painted it bubble gum pink. My decorator told me he almost didn’t want to do it because it sounded so weird/bad but when it was done and I added all my accessories like pop art paintings, unique furniture pieces and a really cool chandelier even he took it back and said it looked amazing. It might not have been to everyone’s taste but it was very me and it looked stylish, perhaps a bit eccentric but definitely not naff!

DramaAlpaca · 07/06/2018 19:23

I don't mind one wall painted in a different colour, but I can't stand wallpaper whether it's on one wall or all of them.

Each to their own, though.

MimpiDreams · 07/06/2018 19:26

Who cares. My whole house is pink and sparkly and utterly tasteless. And I love it.

Formalyknownas99 · 07/06/2018 19:26

I think the use of the word passé is...naff Grin
I also think that you can do whatever the fuck you want to with your home decor...are there really people out there waiting for the next trend so they can sprint down to B&Q...Hmm

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 07/06/2018 19:27

I had walls all if the same colour. 7 months after moving in DD aged 2 decided feature walls were 'so on trend' so she scribbled all over one wall!
I decided Im not actually going to re do it until she is out of this stage.
I am waiting for the trend of scribbled wall to catch on

midnightmisssuki · 07/06/2018 19:31

You don’t like it - don’t do it. Silly to try and judge people who do really.
