Just paper your whole goddamn room or paint it.

That is all.

I love the word passé. If only I liked “feature walls”, I would commission someone to scribble the word artfully over the entire surface!

RoseWhiteTips · 07/06/2018 19:37

I think you’ll find people with individual or classic taste do not follow the herd when it comes to interior decoration.

RoseWhiteTips · 07/06/2018 19:38

Interesting thread, OP!

Katurah · 07/06/2018 19:40

Our William Morris feature walls sold our house...

ScreamingValenta · 07/06/2018 19:42

Katurah I would love a William Morris feature wall - it would be a definite plus if I were viewing houses.

altiara · 07/06/2018 19:42

I like them and the I like the grey obsession. But I like most things, except cork tiles!!

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 07/06/2018 19:45

YABU. I've just done my baby's bedroom with a star wallpaper feature wall and I love it!

RoseWhiteTips · 07/06/2018 19:45

I like William Morris used sparingly -like in a Liberty cushion - but not to cover an entire wall. Too fussy.

I have the opposite to a feature wall - the living room is painted navy everywhere except the bay window. It looks great!

The dining room has the biggest of all sins - feature wallpaper. On one wall and in the alcoves on the opposite wall, behind shelves. It also looks great. Grin

WineGummyBear · 07/06/2018 19:52

We had a feature wall in every room in our old house.

We are just finishing decorating our new house and not a feature wall in sight.

It's just a decor trend, like gun metal grey bifold doors and pendant lighting over the kitchen island. Any trend has the potential to be the avocado bathroom suite of the future.

Thishatisnotmine · 07/06/2018 19:54

We rent. Our chimney breast is in very dark grey with gold swirly leaves. Its not completly to my taste...

EdWinchester · 07/06/2018 19:57

I agree, just a trend that is outdated now.

Up until really recently, in my job I used to see loads of houses with bifolds across the whole back of the house. Now, they are outdated and everyone is putting in dark grey crittal patio doors when they extend.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 07/06/2018 20:01

Just looked up crittal windows... they are lovely!

Fluffyears · 07/06/2018 20:03

I love grey so much better than cream and magnolia. I paid extra to get my new build White rather than magnolia. I hate high gloss kitchens too.

minniemummy0 · 07/06/2018 20:05

NapQueen I guess I’m going to be a hypocrite because I think that looks beautiful. I’m beginning to think it’s a certain type of feature wall I don’t like. I think maybe I’ve seen to many posts on a particular Facebook group that seems to have a certain style, I think it’s poisoned me!!

GreatBigHooandToodloo I adore gallery walls, that sounds like it would be quite lovely actually!

user1499173618 that’s really interesting! We’ve got a dingy north facing kitchen that gets no direct sun, I wonder whether grey would look good in there.

I apologise if I offended, I didn’t actually think it would be that controversial an opinion on here!! Please note, I’m definitely no arbiter of taste, for example I quite like a bit of 1930s pebbledash (the kind that covers the top half of the house) Grin

You don’t like it - don’t do it. Silly to try and judge people who do really.

But fun.

Sallystyle · 07/06/2018 20:16

Mine is lovely. Nina Campbell on the large back wall. It is too dark to have on every wall. I get loads of compliments on it.

tenbob · 07/06/2018 20:21

The pinnacle of shitty feature walls is a damask wallpaper chimney breast

But they are all pretty awful

90% must be in the same houses that have those hideous metal letters saying bathe or eat or love

gamerchick · 07/06/2018 20:22

Christ you'd hate my house then. I do wall and door murals... And cloth wall murals.

I don't do boring, soz. Grin

LisaLotta · 07/06/2018 20:22

We have a beautiful feature wall in our nursery. It is of a watering hole an has animals all over it. It's gorgeous!

FriendOrUser · 07/06/2018 20:25

BiscuitHmm
Judge much?

MissClareRemembers · 07/06/2018 20:26

I’m about to do a feature wall in DS bedroom. One wall will be covered in a graffiti patterned wallpaper and I’ll pick out a toning colour for the other walls. I’ve never used wallpaper before so who knows how it’ll turn out!

Whilst in the subject of feature walls, can I bring up ‘feature ceilings’?? Our new house has a couple of them. They’re hideous but I’m too wimpy to strip them in case half the plaster comes off with the paper!

Shadowboy · 07/06/2018 20:28

Nah I like feature walls- some rooms just can’t take a full 360 in a strong colour or wallpaper. A feature wall adds interest.

What I dislike is the current grey obsession. It makes rooms look so cold and clinical. Give me a feature wall over a completely grey room!
