Just paper your whole goddamn room or paint it.

Grin

That is all.

I have my chimney breast papered and the rest of the room painted. It's not 'naff'.

Wearelocal · 07/06/2018 18:34

It is so naff. runs for cover

mittensofsteel · 07/06/2018 18:36

@NapQueen - I like that bed! Where is it from?

BumbleNova · 07/06/2018 18:36

Completely agree. It's very changing rooms. Just pick an awesome colour and paint the whole room. I also agree re grey everywhere, it's going to date quickly.

PrimalLass · 07/06/2018 18:39

You know what else is unbelievably naff?

Starting a thread to slag off something off that you know lots of people who read the thread will have.

ScreamingValenta · 07/06/2018 18:39

I painted one wall of my dining room a rich purple to add warmth without compromising the light in the room, and I really like it - not bothered at all if others think it's naff. I'm the one who lives with it.

NapQueen · 07/06/2018 18:41

Bed is from IKEA.

Cutyourshakehole · 07/06/2018 18:41

I love a feature wall. Brings a room together. Mines are painted not papered but only
Coz it’s cheaper.its not naff.
What I hate is everyone on mumsnet jumping on the “yeah yeah yeah I agree “ train.
Boring.
Ps that bedroom pic is lovely

I like grey too

rosamacrose · 07/06/2018 18:41

I remember the dado rail decorative phase and stencilling and sponging and rag-rolling.
All seem naff, now.
They were once the height of sophistication.
I still like the Californian white bleached wood and Quaker look - as it was called.
I do not and have never lived in either a house that was suitable for that, or in California.Grin
It all comes around again.

The80sweregreat · 07/06/2018 18:42

I don’t give a shit if prople don’t like the walls _ we do and that’s all that matters.

RavenLG · 07/06/2018 18:42

The grey thing is worse, though. It is so lacking in imagination.
God yes. I'd rather live somewhere tacky than somewhere boring and lacking in colour!

Cutyourshakehole · 07/06/2018 18:43

Would love to see pics of all these no grey no feature wall houses. Bet they are all stunning

TheWernethWife · 07/06/2018 18:45

I have two feature walls, one in Plummet and Brinjal in the dining room, both F & B. Look fab and always get positive comments.

RoseWhiteTips · 07/06/2018 18:46

The Shaker look is classic. It doesn't date.

The80sweregreat · 07/06/2018 18:46

I find lots of things naff that others love ( gaudy dangling things , hearts up the window, big blown up photos on the wall of people on space hoppers) but it’s their hind not mine.

The80sweregreat · 07/06/2018 18:46

Home rather

makeitalargegin · 07/06/2018 18:49

Moved into my house last year, the whole house was painted peach with those spongy wallpaper features walls in the living room. Then matching boarder all around the house, I'm still trying to get it off in some rooms, they must have used superglue. I have nightmares with peach I then Shock

The wall was a state in the living room, so I now have a feature wall and I love it. So I do think that feature walls are nice.

RoseWhiteTips · 07/06/2018 18:51

This is classic:

I hate the trend of all this crushed velvet, normal matte velvet is nice but not too much. This crushed velvet m, yuck, yuck, yuck I find it's tacky and looks a bloddy nightmare to keep clean.

Bowlofbabelfish · 07/06/2018 18:51

It can look lovely - friends have an amazing period place in Nottingham with what looks like original wallpaper on one section of wall (some of it looks hand painted.) it’s absolutely gorgeous. They have ludicrously high ceilings and proper chandeliers.

. A lot of what looks great in older buildings doesn’t translate to modern places as well. Or very dark walls in north facing rooms.

But, each to their own. We have a scandi type place, and feature walls wouldn’t suit. It’s white and wood with colourful paintings and accessories and I love it. I’m sure plenty of others Wouldn’t but hey ho. Variety is the spice of life etc.

I have really bold feature wallpapers in virtually every room in my house which would look awful on every wall. I think it's just like putting up a very large painting.
I also have grey paint. My house is absolutely stunning thank you very much.

WatermelonGlitter · 07/06/2018 18:52

After 20 odd years in magnolia woodchip Army quarters I bloody LOVE my wallpapered feature wall. Anyone who doesn't like it can do one. I couldn't give a toss.

DarlingNikita · 07/06/2018 18:53

I've got one living-room wall painted a deep colour and the rest a pale neutral, if that counts, or is a feature wall by definition wallpapered?

I'd love some bold printed wallpaper actually – Victorian-style birds and botanicals or something, but DP's tastes are more boring refined and minimal than mine and I don't think he'd like that.

The80sweregreat · 07/06/2018 18:53

Rose - I did laugh at that.
Different I suppose.

Racecardriver · 07/06/2018 18:54

Yes! I loathe them. Just pick one colour ffs.
