Is Fortnite ruining anyone else's family?

And devices in general?

We have 1 Xbox, 4 kids.

The older 2 bicker and argue about it constantly. They're like ogres when they can't go on it and ogres when they've been in it. And how very dare I interrupt a game with 'time's up!' Or 'dinner'. They're limited to 45 mins each, they have to take turns. They're addicted to it. Just one more...

It's ruining our family.

We:
Limit time spent on it
They have to earn time on it
Make them share
Warn them before stopping games

I have unpleasant children and it's really getting me down. They live for it. They're not allowed any other form of social media, and I get they they want to play/interact with their peers so I'd rather not ban it completely BUT we're running out of ideas of how to stop it ruining our family. I also hate the fact people can 'listen in' to our family life.

Have you got similar problems? How do you manage this addiction?

Sad 😞

Tangisha why did you feel the need to type the letters of 'Fuck off' in individual posts. One of the great things about being a grown-up you'll find is that you can swear - big proper swear words and your mum won't tell you off!

Until then, get on with your homework. At least you're awake before 2pm though - well done!

FORTNITE very bad GRRRR

i have lost my kids to fortnite. one of them tried to sky dive of the roof. the other in in a jovial detention center for selling fortnite hacks. DO NOT let your kids play this horrible game

lillighters85 · 05/03/2019 14:07

Good for you Lamdalipa. We're not there yet as our children are still young enought to control absolutely but I aspire to be a parent, not a friend.

DS has a PS4 and therefore Fortnite/Fifa, however we have an agreement... if he has an attitude whatsoever or refuses to engage in 'real life' a ban is given. Working a treat at the moment.

Allowed up to 1 hour per day to play online, not every day due to other hobbies/sports which take up his evenings.

Now and again he can choose to have a morning/afternoon online if we have no plans.

If he has an option of playing out whilst weather is good then that comes first as I refuse to let him waste his days inside/online when we/he could be doing things and interacting with friends.

Must add everyone he plays with online he knows in 'real life'

Totally ruining our family. I have a 15 and a half year old in year 11. I don’t know what to do as he is addicted to fortnight. He is horrible when I’ve removed the PlayStation. Have done it for 6 weeks before. He goes to school and does the basics of what is asked of him. He goes on and on when we remove it to the point my husband can’t cope and looses his temper with him (doesn’t hit him or anything) but doesn’t deal with it in the right way. It’s got to the point we are arguing all the time and my husband thinks about leaving. I’m at my wits end. We live with my 80 yr old dad too so can’t have the uproar all the time as he’s not used to it. Please any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Destroy the xbox. Halo

It can harbour EVIL games.

Emmet51Karren · 02/10/2020 13:54

These 'video games' destroy our christian values!!!!!

Destroy his xbox right in front of him, and get him to a preist stat!!!

Coulddowithanap · 02/10/2020 14:14

I like the idea of turning the WiFi off and saying its broken.

Ch0colatecake · 02/10/2020 14:18

fortnitenightmare My 2DS’s are only allowed on it at the weekend and holidays. They’re allowed on for 1hr30min at a time twice a day. I give them a 5 minute warning just before they are about to come off, so that they can finish the game/battle they have started and it usually works for me and the DS’s. Whereas my DH gives no warning and expects them to come off as soon as time is up, which always ends up in tantrums.
