Is Fortnite ruining anyone else's family?

And devices in general?

We have 1 Xbox, 4 kids.

The older 2 bicker and argue about it constantly. They're like ogres when they can't go on it and ogres when they've been in it. And how very dare I interrupt a game with 'time's up!' Or 'dinner'. They're limited to 45 mins each, they have to take turns. They're addicted to it. Just one more...

It's ruining our family.

We:
Limit time spent on it
They have to earn time on it
Make them share
Warn them before stopping games

I have unpleasant children and it's really getting me down. They live for it. They're not allowed any other form of social media, and I get they they want to play/interact with their peers so I'd rather not ban it completely BUT we're running out of ideas of how to stop it ruining our family. I also hate the fact people can 'listen in' to our family life.

Have you got similar problems? How do you manage this addiction?

Sad 😞

Fortnite is an online game so it gives them more contact, maybe you shouldn't limit their social medias so much and they'll branch out to other things, if you cut off their connection but give them a taste of it then you should probably open up on it. It's unfair to give a little kid a lick of ice cream and then take it away.

at the point you're at, the game is a problem, but something else is causing the problem I believe, because you can't limit it much more, but their behaviour is still problematic. Try figuring out something else, if it gets too far, don't ban it completely, it will make matters worse because they have friends who still play it and talk about it so they won't forget about it or give up. (It may work with other things but not this, try and find a way around it while they still want to play the game, and I respect you for not throwing the xbox into a fire, that takes a lot of patience)

45 minutes is not enough time to enjoy a game! No wonder your kids kick off. Why not buy a second Xbox?

We got a live one!

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 02/01/2019 13:53

Get rid of it OP. Don't do it as a punishment though- tell you children that it's for the best and schedule some evening trips out over the next week / at the end of the month to take everyone's mind off it and to prove that getting rid of it isn't a punishment bit a way to have fun as a family.
