Am I that dreaded noisy neighbour?

I’ll admit that the answer was definitely “yes” 5 years ago as we did weekly karaoke nights at the top of our voices till 4am. But it didn’t matter then because

Have you pressed post too soon?!!

iffyjiffybag · 15/04/2018 14:53

....a visit from Donald Trump's aide was due in the next few minutes to discuss intimidation tactics toward the enemy. Mother shouted from an upstairs window "Don't forget to ask for a"...

(assuming this is a game of Consequences) Grin

Chuggachugga · 15/04/2018 14:57

Whoops... it cut me off!

.... because our neighbours were there partying with us! But two years ago we got new neighbours. We were having a karaoke session the day they moved in and we did another karaoke last year. We had one last weekend and turned it off by 2am but because it rarely happens nowadays we didn’t think it would be an issue. They are acting funny with us now and have cut a boundary line on the shared front lawn whereas before we always cut each other’s. I apologised the day after but I was given funny looks. AIBU?

2am if you haven't chatted beforehand is always unreasonable.

AlonsoTigerHeart · 15/04/2018 14:59

Any top of the voice karaoke is proper cunt territory let alone all the time

Ilovecamping · 15/04/2018 15:00

Yes, my DP had something similar with a neighbour, he left his stereo on all day whilst neighbour was trying to sleep.

snewname · 15/04/2018 15:00

I wouldn't mind very occasionally, if warned in advance but a regular occurrence would be hugely annoying.

Parkrunner25 · 15/04/2018 15:00

I get up at 6. 2am would have a serious impact on my ability to do my job the next day.

TwitterQueen1 · 15/04/2018 15:01

Yes, you are. 2am is completely unreasonable - especially for something as awful as karaoke.

Landed · 15/04/2018 15:01

Actions speak louder than words. You know the answer. Time to build some bridges if you are the kind of neighbour to be considerate. Maybe let them know in advance then at least they can join in or be prepared for a bad night. It's torture you know?

PuppyMonkey · 15/04/2018 15:01

You were unreasonable the minute you mentioned karaoke imho.Grin

Flisspaps · 15/04/2018 15:01

Yes, you are.

No one wants to listen to their neighbours drunken warbling when they're trying to sleep.

Anything after 11pm without an apology or prior warning is cuntish.

gamerchick · 15/04/2018 15:01

It’s not fine to have a top of your voice karaoke party until 2 am EVER if you have neighbours.

AtrociousCircumstance · 15/04/2018 15:01

Absolutely fucking awful. Inconsiderate, selfish behaviour. The sort of people who cause others so much stress and upset.

As for the neighbours who were partying with you, do you mean everyone on every side of you? Because it won’t just be one household you are disturbing.

Stop doing it. Don’t be that kind of an arsehole.

Creambun2 · 15/04/2018 15:01

Karaoke at 4am? You sound awful neighbours. Selfish idiot.

Aquamarine1029 · 15/04/2018 15:02

Yes, you are the dreaded neighbour. Until 2am?! How rude and completely self-involved.

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 15/04/2018 15:02

I think it was unreasonable with no notice, yes.

Chuggachugga · 15/04/2018 15:02

That will always be the problem though. We tend to do things spontaneously so we’d never be able to give notice. I thought that once or twice a year would be acceptable. But I know not everyone thinks like me so I’m just putting it out on mumsnet to get a general consensus!

hotstepper4 · 15/04/2018 15:02

Yes. Living next door to you would leave me seriously anxious and on tenterhooks all the time. Have some consideration for those around you, you aren't the only person on the planet.

junebirthdaygirl · 15/04/2018 15:03

We have a party a few times a year. Tell all neighbours and music off and everyone inside at 12. We live out the country with a big garden!! 2am . Yes neighbours from hell

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 15/04/2018 15:03

Yes you are. That’s not on really.
Couldn’t you have given them a knock to let them know?
That would impact my life terribly.

UpstartCrow · 15/04/2018 15:03
  1. 2am
  2. karaoke

Buy a barn conversion in a field, or a bunker.

LifeBeginsAtGin · 15/04/2018 15:03

2am is completely unreasonable.

WishingOnABar · 15/04/2018 15:04

Fml if my neighbours had been singing karaoke until 2am I would have been outside at 8am loudly cutting an obscenity into their grass.YABVU and I suspect the neighbours not adjoining you also think you are twats too.

Sunflowerhappy · 15/04/2018 15:05

Rude selfish ignorant.
There are karaoke bars if you like that sort of thing.
