I have a small holding and keep free range chickens.

Dropping DD at a friends this morn I took a box of our multicoloured eggs as a little thank you. When I handed them over she handed them straight back with a look of absolute disgust on her face and said "Oh, no thanks, I cant eat them when I know where they've been" and made a gipping noise/sick face. I thought it was pretty rude but just smiled and apologised "sorry, I didn't know you didn't eat eggs". She then said "I we eat eggs, but I wouldn't eat those" and turned away. She then opened the fridge to put away groceries she was unpacking and I saw a huge box of every day value eggs from tesco.

I didn't say anything else and left but why on earth would anyone eat eggs from caged hens and not free range eggs?

How odd, does she think Tesco make them in a lab or something? Grin

NC4Now · 09/04/2018 12:14

She’s barking! I think I’d have laughed my head off.

letsdolunch321 · 09/04/2018 12:14

Stupid woman!!!

She needs educating Hmm

smurfit · 09/04/2018 12:15

Yanbu. I get free range eggs from a friends family. They're amazing.

But... some people are put off by the slightly unusual looking eggs that you get. Move on and keep them for someone who appreciates them in the delicious glory.

HarryLovesDraco · 09/04/2018 12:15

What a silly person.

Mercurial123 · 09/04/2018 12:15

Some people are really stupid she's one of them.

ladymariner · 09/04/2018 12:17

How stupid! I'd have loved them, it was really nice of you. Her loss!

Nothisispatrick · 09/04/2018 12:17

What does she mean by where they've been? I would've asked her.

itallhappensforareason · 09/04/2018 12:17

I would understand if you had handed her a slab of meat and brought along the carcuss that it was from, but eggs? Really?

strawberrypenguin · 09/04/2018 12:18

I'd have loved some free range eggs! YANBU

HolyMountain · 09/04/2018 12:18

She’s an idiot, fresh free range eggs taste so lovely.

HolyMountain · 09/04/2018 12:19

.....and a bloody rude idiot too.

RepealMay25th · 09/04/2018 12:19

Possibly she meant manhandled and painted eggs? Still weird but maybe....

KirstenRaymonde · 09/04/2018 12:19

If there wasn’t so much cognitive dissonance about where people’s food comes from people would be eating far fewer animal products I’m sure of it.

KirstenRaymonde · 09/04/2018 12:20

@RepealMay25th who’s painting eggs?

jaseyraex · 09/04/2018 12:20

That is bizarre. Where does she think Tesco get the eggs from then if she thinks they're superior to yours? Hmm

RepealMay25th · 09/04/2018 12:21

Oh, I read it wrong Blush Ignore me, I'm doing three things at once and got confused with a side conversation about painted easter eggs when I saw multicoloured!

snewsname · 09/04/2018 12:22

repeal Grin I'm not sure you meant to be funny though.

She's shown herself to be an idiot, op.

maras2 · 09/04/2018 12:24

Can't argue with stupid Shock

MrPotatosGirlfriend · 09/04/2018 12:25

She was definitely rude, and I absolutely don't understand anyone buying caged hen eggs unless absolutely skint.

However I would be a little cautious of home reared if I don't know whether the chickens had been vaccinated for samonella, especially if planning to feed the eggs to young kids.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 09/04/2018 12:25

Rude. And also very stupid!

Nice gesture on your part. She doesn't deserve your lovely free-range eggs!

hayli · 09/04/2018 12:26

Please just send them my way! Smile

Paie · 09/04/2018 12:26

I would have been so grateful for the eggs- but would of had to politely decline!
Pregnant and have been advised not to touch eggs that don't carry the lion stamp- its nothing personal just that the stamp means the chickens are up to date on vaccines ect

missbonita · 09/04/2018 12:26

They weren't painted they are naturally a variety of colours - white, pale brown, pinky brown, blue, green, dark chocolate brown - they look so pretty and sell for a premium.

She is always extremely groomed with a very clean car/home etc so I did wonder if by "where they'd been' she meant in my car rather than up the chickens chuff Grin haha

I am having scrambled eggs on toast as I type

Bananalanacake · 09/04/2018 12:27

I also first thought you meant painted eggs. Here in Germany you can buy brightly painted hard boiled eggs, they are always on offer in cafes and hotel buffets. I still don't get it.
