I have a small holding and keep free range chickens.

Dropping DD at a friends this morn I took a box of our multicoloured eggs as a little thank you. When I handed them over she handed them straight back with a look of absolute disgust on her face and said "Oh, no thanks, I cant eat them when I know where they've been" and made a gipping noise/sick face. I thought it was pretty rude but just smiled and apologised "sorry, I didn't know you didn't eat eggs". She then said "I we eat eggs, but I wouldn't eat those" and turned away. She then opened the fridge to put away groceries she was unpacking and I saw a huge box of every day value eggs from tesco.

I didn't say anything else and left but why on earth would anyone eat eggs from caged hens and not free range eggs?

Thanks missbonita, that's makes sense then. It didn't cross my mind that I've never actually seen turkey eggs for sale haha

Sorry if this is already discussed in this thread but what do you do about pooey eggs? I always wash ours but I know you're not supposed to.

We used to go and stay at a caravan belonging to in laws. Sited on a quiet farm. The farmer’s wife used to come knocking daily on the vans to see if anyone wanted to buy the eggs. It was the first thing I’d be looking forward to when we visited. Often got a double yoke too!!

I’m on a budget and buy value free range mixed size eggs. Have gotten really annoyed that Sainsbury’s now put their cheapest ones in plastic not cardboard. Can’t quit afford to be buying the top range ones. There’s a huge selection of prices at the supermarket and ours has some from local farms too at a premium.

I’d jump at the home farmed gifted eggs from a neighbour. I’ve taught my children to accept unwanted gifts greatfully and with a smile. If a 5 year old can smile and say thank you for something she’s got already or absolutely hates (yep it’s happened) then I can’t see why a fully grown adult needed to be so rude.
