in HATING 'little person on board' signs in car's rear windows?

I've just been driving behind a seicento with a tiny back window with TWO of these notices in What is the thinking..."Oh, well having these in my back window will stop people from ramming into me (more likely to if you ask me) OR I know, in order to show how much I love my children I'll limit the rear view vision in my car thus making it far more likely that I'll have a crash with my 'tiny people' in the car. OH PURLEASE....

It is supposed to be an alert to emergency services that there is a child there if the car is in a crash. I never used one myself as it does seem to imply "Don't go into my car - crash into someone else's"

IdreamofClooney · 10/05/2007 14:26

I'm not keen on them either tbh.

I thought that the whole point of a "baby on board" sign was so that in event of an accident the emergency services woudl know to look for a baby - ie if the car seat was not easily visible. But they are pointless as people just leave them in the car all the time even when the baby is not actually in the car.

Perhaps they are useful if using the special spaces in the supermarket car park

southeastastra · 10/05/2007 14:26

i'm sure the emergency services know to look for other passengers without having to rely on baby on board stickers

DANCESwithnewlytannedlegs · 10/05/2007 14:27

Yeah, I would have thought the large car seats in the back might tip them off too...

I hate those 'princess on board signs'

Pannacotta · 10/05/2007 14:29

I'm not keen either but we were bought one with DS and my DH put it in the car.
I did find it made me feel better about eg stopping the car in the road outside the house to unload DS/shopping, as only on-street parking here and can be hard to get a space.
They are a bit naff but perhaps make people more aware/patient esp when town driving/parking etc...

powder28 · 10/05/2007 14:30

I do have a baby on board sign and a child on board sign though.

My neighbour thought it was the law to have one in your car if you are carrying a baby.

Although she did also ask me last year, during the heatwave if my DS still had his vest on! She was worried if it was warm enough for her 10 month old to take his off. So she's probably not the brightest star in the sky.

I wonder if she was going to report me for carrying kids without a sign??

powder28 · 10/05/2007 14:31

MT, I am intrigued. Please explain......

kittypants · 10/05/2007 14:31

i brought my sister chav on board sign

Tutter · 10/05/2007 14:31

i'm not keen i have to say

TinyGang · 10/05/2007 14:31

I think they're probably handy in alerting other motorists that the driver is likely to be embroiled in a distracting heated conversation that goes something like

'KEEP QUIET! I'm DRIVING THE B%$$&* CAR!!'

Woooozle100 · 10/05/2007 14:31

I don't like em either. Seem to see them loads on cars being driven terribly (was cut up by one t'other day - fffff mind my little precious but excuse my attrocious, feckless road sense!)

Oh and hate the jokey ones even more - like 'naughty person on board'

southeastastra · 10/05/2007 14:31

i don't like those 'mum's taxi' ones for some reason

Iklboo · 10/05/2007 14:32

See 'little person on board' old apply to me..or my mum... we're not TALL people

powder28 · 10/05/2007 14:32

so the plonkers that leave these daft signs in car windows, could prevent the emergency services from help/saving someone else, because they are looking for a princess/child/monkey that isn't there. Yep i truly hate these signs to. but i do like the 'everyone needs a teenager because they know everything'.

Mumpbump · 10/05/2007 14:36

We have a baby on board sign and I think they are useful because if I see a car with a similar sign on it, I give it extra room because the driver might be distracted by a crying/arguing child. So I do think you're unreasonable.

Mind you, we did get accused of smug parent syndrome by a couple from my antenatal class which surprised me...

kittypants · 10/05/2007 14:37

also in emergency would they look for sign first,oh yes we found it sir there is a child on board, after 10 minutes of looking for it.

powder28 · 10/05/2007 14:39

TwirlyN you have made me LOL

SparklyGothKat · 10/05/2007 14:39

I saw one 'drive with care, twins in here'

bitofadilemma · 10/05/2007 14:40

I saw

pregnant woman on board

kittypants · 10/05/2007 14:41

maybe mumsnet users should have mumsnetter on board signs!
