in HATING 'little person on board' signs in car's rear windows?

I've just been driving behind a seicento with a tiny back window with TWO of these notices in What is the thinking..."Oh, well having these in my back window will stop people from ramming into me (more likely to if you ask me) OR I know, in order to show how much I love my children I'll limit the rear view vision in my car thus making it far more likely that I'll have a crash with my 'tiny people' in the car. OH PURLEASE....

so just out of curiosity
would you have baby on board and child on board on the same car? Or is it one for yours and one for dh's?

Shoshable · 10/05/2007 15:35

I have one that says 'Childminder on board, emergancy details on reverse' Is that Ok

Spidermama · 10/05/2007 15:37

YANBU.

I mean how is another driver supposed to respond to such signs? By saying 'Oh, little person on board. OK, I won't ram you up the back then?' FGS!

bitofadilemma · 10/05/2007 15:37

is that a joke?

Maybe I should have one saying

Project Manager on board, Gantt chart on reverse...

Nikki76 · 10/05/2007 15:38

Shoshable - I think that's excellent. If you had an accident (God forbid) and couldn't talk, they could still get in contact with mindees parents....really conscientious imo

feetheart · 10/05/2007 15:39

I've got one that says "Baby I'm Bored" Much more appropriate

Shoshable · 10/05/2007 15:41

Nikki I also have a clear pocket Which holds the numbers 1 - 6 change it to how many kids in car as have 6 car seats but sometimes only 3 children. And Thank you.

Nikki76 · 10/05/2007 15:43

If you ever move to Bristol and do child minding - CAT me!

DelGirl · 10/05/2007 15:46

omg this has reminded me of what I sw yesterday, you would not believe.

A VW golf, with a princess on board sticker.............and the suns shade had a photo of the obvious princess enlarged on it. bleurgh. I haven't read the whole thread and I hope I haven't offended anyone.but why???????

chocolattegirl · 10/05/2007 15:53

Perhaps her parents find it hard to remember what she looks like? .

About as sensible as those named alicebands IMHO.

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 10/05/2007 15:56

i dont like the little princess on board ones, mainly because teenage/young drivers around my way use them to describe themselves, now those signs are there to alert emergency services that there is a child in the car in case of an accident, not great if they are looking for a child that doesnt exist!!!

oh and spoilt brat on board acctually meaning a child........

KathyMCMLXXII · 10/05/2007 15:58

" little princess on board ones, mainly because teenage/young drivers around my way use them to describe themselves,"

Didn't know that, Sleepless, but as a feminist I deplore it - have they no self-respect?

morningpaper · 10/05/2007 15:58

I was driving behind one with "SHOW DOGS ON BOARD"

I mean how was I supposed to respond?

I thought that was ODD

DANCESwithnewlytannedlegs · 10/05/2007 16:00

You obviously didn't read the bit underneath it MP...it said 'Show dogs on board' (and in small text) help me, I have no life or friends...

I was behind a tin can Fiat being driven at break neck speed on the ring road yesterday, with "Princess on Board" AND "Cheeky monkey on board" signs, doubtlessly obscuring most of the view. Can"t help thinking having those is not a good reason to drive like a bat out of hell in a potentially crumply car.

Not unreasonable at all, I say.

Manictigger · 10/05/2007 16:04

I always remember Kirsty Young putting them into room 101 on tv and saying 'why don't you just dangle your genitals out the window and be done with it '(or something along those lines) and my respect for her increased enormously.

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 10/05/2007 16:06

having thought about it havealso seen slut on board which is infinately worse!!!

Bagpuss30 · 10/05/2007 16:20

MP, we were behind a show dogs sign the other day. DH and I both thought it most bizarre but then I concluded that perhaps the dogs were a child substitute of some kind.

I agree with Malory here. In fact when we had a high speed smash on the M6 a few years back, our sign ended up blowing around on said motorway as the back window of the car smashed. Not much good and I didn't bother replacing it.

RGPargy · 10/05/2007 16:29

I bloody hate those signs!!!

LMAO @ MissGolightly!! You really made me LOL

LieselVentouse · 10/05/2007 16:41

Hate them hate them hate them - in fact a coupel fo weeks ago I started a thread cause I found one which said "the child in front is a Montessori educated child"
WTF????

wheresmysuntan · 10/05/2007 16:51

Actually- contrary to the 'baby on board' signs, the show dog ones are there to explain that the driver might be driving 'carefully' because they are transporting animals long distance which you wouldn't know otherwise like with a horsebox which is obviou IYKWIM

LieselVentouse · 10/05/2007 17:00

Glad he pointed out that he had show dogs on board otherwise I would happily have smashed into the back of him at 50MPH

OrmIrian · 10/05/2007 17:05

I think the correct response is to think "Thanks for telling me. I will refrain from driving into the back of your car, putting my life and my no claims bonus in jeopardy. I will rear-end some other poor bugger"

Littlemissbusy · 10/05/2007 17:08

I hate the things! Never seen the purpose in them! And the correlation between those signs and appalling driving is just so close as to be scary!

SparklyGothKat · 10/05/2007 17:54

I have 'disabled passenger on board, please leave 8ft for my wheelchair' Is that ok??
