in HATING 'little person on board' signs in car's rear windows?

I've just been driving behind a seicento with a tiny back window with TWO of these notices in What is the thinking..."Oh, well having these in my back window will stop people from ramming into me (more likely to if you ask me) OR I know, in order to show how much I love my children I'll limit the rear view vision in my car thus making it far more likely that I'll have a crash with my 'tiny people' in the car. OH PURLEASE....

lol kittypants, 'got it guv, heres the sucker bit...

powder28 · 10/05/2007 14:42

I can see the sense behind the pregnant woman on board sign

sohappyicouldcry · 10/05/2007 14:43

Agree with Malory, the emergency services DO NOT look for these signs > . They are a complete and utter waste of time and money !!

They probably cause more accidents than they prevent due to people trying to get closer to read what they say etc ....

Sorry, but there you are ....

evenhope · 10/05/2007 14:43

When these first came out, some 20 years ago, the original intention was to warn the person behind that you were likely to do something daft like brake suddenly through being distracted by your kids. Now I think they've lost that, and as you say they are normally in cars driven by idiots who have no consideration for anyone else (mumpbump excepted )

I particularly hate the princess/ naughty person etc jokey ones.

mrsmalumbas · 10/05/2007 14:44

I have one which says "Yes I'm a witch, deal with it"

SparklyGothKat · 10/05/2007 14:44

I have a 'yes, i'm a bitch, just not your bitch' bumper sticker, but haven't put it on my car

fruitful · 10/05/2007 14:45

I bought a "little person on board" one for dh (he's shorter than me). He wasn't amused.

MissGolightly · 10/05/2007 14:45

I have posted on threads about this before and share your irritation - I just don't GET them. As I see it they could be saying one of three things:

  1. Me and my family are far more deserving of life than the old lady in the car in the next lane so please try to run your car into her, should you crash
  2. I am a fluffy-headed mummy who can't drive very well because my mind is too taken up deciding what colour ribbons to put in baby Jemima's hair so please leave a wide berth
  3. I have a family and am intolerably smug about it.

None of which are really what I wish to say about myself.

I don't buy the emergency services explanation - if a crash is serious enough to detatch both the baby and the baby seat from the car, it is hardly likely to leave the plastic sign dangling in the rear-window, is it? Plus as Clooney says it would only work if people took it out when their baby was NOT in the car!

Sorry Powder, but do you not think that it's usually obvious that someone is pregnant ?? It's also the very first thing that they say if they've been in an RTC.....

(I did say usually, before you all jump on my back about people who are not yet showing) !

powder28 · 10/05/2007 14:46

someone had one that read 'get any closer and you'll have to marry me'

bitofadilemma · 10/05/2007 14:48

I find these are much more bearable (and accurate) if you substitute the word "arsehole" for princess/baby etc

MissGolightly · 10/05/2007 14:48

Oo in the space of answering the phone about a million more posts!

Tombley I am lmao that your neighbour thought it was the law! That's bizarrely sweet.

fluffyanimal · 10/05/2007 14:49

I hate them too. Can I have a sign which says "adult on board - may still drive craply but can I also be given a chance if you decide to crash into me and please can the emergency services look for me too?"

Hmmm. It's a bit long, not too catchy...

powder28 · 10/05/2007 14:49

I couldnt give a toss actually.

GameGirly · 10/05/2007 14:49

Years ago, I was on another board, much inferior to this one and there was a poster looking for a Princess on Board sticker for her Mercedes (she actually specified the type of car). A couple of helpful people suggested the ordinary baby on board ones from Mothercare or wherever, but no, she specifically wanted Princess on Board. So someone else recommended she try EBay. Well, she was outraged: "I don't want anything second-hand for my baby" she cried. She was soon run out of town, I'm afraid!

chocolattegirl · 10/05/2007 14:51

I think that they're dangerous and as naff as the 70s name stickers you used to get in the front of the car .

ha ha

GameGirly · 10/05/2007 14:57

Oooooh, is that what the fish signs are? Often wondered. Thought they meant it was Cod's car.

fluffyanimal · 10/05/2007 15:00

No, God's car.

GameGirly · 10/05/2007 15:01

Ha ha, Fluffy!

powder28 · 10/05/2007 15:17

Thanks for enlightening me Malory, I really thought the signs were used by the emergency services. I won't bother using them now.
Dh just bought two new ones!!

So, anyone want to buy a baby on board and a child on board sign? No? oh....
